Chapter 92: A Night Spent Together
She swallowed hard to ease her discomfort as their lips were about to meet, and out of fear, she pushed him away.
"Judson, go wash up, I'll use the bathroom outside."
Houses of this style had an outer bathroom she could use.
Judson licked his lips, a bit disappointed for missing the kiss.
Seeing her blushing, however, pleased him. He didn't want to push her, so he entered the bathroom.
After freshening up, Eula returned to the bedroom to find him already in bed, fast asleep. The exhaustion had clearly taken its toll.
The next day, they both overslept, not stirring until nine o'clock.
At the sight of the time, Eula couldn't help but let out a startled gasp. "Oh..."
She quickly glanced at the bedside clock. "What time is it?"
Judson had surprisingly slept like a rock, even though he was usually up at six. Today he seemed to have a knack for snoozing. "It's nine, Judson. What about work? You're going to be late!"
Slowly sitting up, Judson casually reassured her, "No worries, won't dock your pay."
Angie sat up beside him, rubbing her sleepy, doe-like eyes before flashing Judson a smile. "Mr. Nash, you snoozed with us!"
Her grin revealed two adorable dimples, clearly delighted beyond words.
With a smile, Judson greeted her, "Good morning, sweetheart!"
His smooth, velvety voice was a pleasant sound to wake up to.
Angie curled the corners of her mouth, "Handsome Uncle, your voice is so nice. I had a dream last night about my daddy..."
She abruptly stopped, covering her mouth, sneaking a glance at Eula. Talking about Daddy in front of Eula was off-limits, a rule her brothers made clear.
She hoped Eula hadn't heard, almost spilling the beans.
But Eula had heard indeed and understood that the children refrained from speaking of it to spare her feelings. So she discreetly exited the bedroom.
Judson noticed, realizing she walked away on purpose. "Dreamed about your dad?"
Angie nodded emphatically. "Yeah, he looks just like you and held me in his arms – with just one arm. He's really strong."
Just the thought made the little girl overflow with bliss, a feeling she'd never experienced before.
Judson reached out, gently patting her head. "Such a good girl."
Angie lay on her little bed, watching the adults move in and out of the bathroom, Eula getting dressed, and Judson putting on his coat. They were off to work again, and soon it would be just her and Mary at home.
As Eula looped a scarf around her neck, she spoke to Angie. "I'll come back at lunchtime to pick you girls up for your shots at the clinic."
Angie whimpered, "I don't wanna get a shot, it hurts!"
Eula wanted no argument; the shot was a must.
Together, they left the room, descending the narrow staircase one after the other.
Downstairs, Mary suggested, "Mr. Nash, Eula, have some breakfast before you go."
Eula also wished he would eat, especially considering he had stayed up late because of her and overslept.
Checking his luxury watch, Judson declined, "No time for breakfast, I've got a meeting at half-past ten."
It was quarter past nine, traffic would be thick, but he'd arrive just in time for the meeting.
Stepping outside, Judson's car was nowhere to be found. Eula pulled out her keys and started up the compact car, which he no longer wanted, and made her way to the office.
As she drove, he sat in the passenger seat, glancing at his phone. Seeing numerous missed calls, he dialed Myles's number.
"Judson, you finally picked up. Did you catch the news today? There's been an incident," Myles said urgently.
