Chapter 296 People Can't Lie

"Hurry up, or I'll go up and grab you."

Judson had completely lost his patience. If she didn't come down soon, he might really rush up there.

Eula suddenly stood up. "No, I'm coming down right now."

She hung up the phone, put it in the pocket of her tracksuit, and carefully opened the door, peeking out.

Eula and the three kids lived on the second floor, while Mary lived on the third floor. She glanced at her feet, took her shoes in her hand, and walked barefoot to avoid making any noise.

Luckily, the house wasn't cold at all.

And with the underfloor heating, walking barefoot on the floor was warm and comfortable.

Eula cautiously stepped outside and made her way toward the stairs.

At that moment, she felt like a thief trying to sneak away, and it was exhausting. Just as she reached Dewitt and Rodolfo's door, it swung open.

Dewitt and Rodolfo looked at her with slightly surprised expressions. Eula was taken aback, too, realizing from the water glasses in their hands that they were heading downstairs to get a drink.

What a coincidence.

She gave an awkward smile and said, "Oh, you guys need water? Do you want me to get it for you?"

She thought, 'It is already past eleven. Why are they still up?'

She looked down, feeling that even jogging seemed a bit off at this hour.

"Mom, are you going for a workout?" Rodolfo asked, grinning as he took in her outfit from head to toe.

Eula quickly slipped on her running shoes. "I ate way too much tonight, so I'm heading to the gym to work off some of it."

Dewitt stepped out and gave a slight nod.

"Perfect timing. Rodolfo and I aren't tired either, so we'll join you for your workout."

Eula wanted to say no, but she knew she couldn't refuse. They were too perceptive; they probably already knew where she was headed.

She mentally screamed, 'Just forget about tonight and go back!'

She was hesitant to even send a text. She was completely under Dewitt and Rodolfo's thumb, but Judson was her absolute favorite. Judson had to make do.

After Dewitt and Rodolfo grabbed their water, they followed Eula down to the gym. The gym was spacious, with mirrors on every wall. Angie often used it for dance practice.

Dewitt and Rodolfo placed their water glasses side by side, and Eula felt her phone vibrating incessantly in her bag.

She dared not answer it, afraid Dewitt and Rodolfo would realize that Judson was waiting for her.

Dewitt and Rodolfo joined her, starting their warm-up.

"Mom, start with three laps, then do a hundred sit-ups, a hundred push-ups, and finish with two hundred squats."

The thought of it made Eula's scalp tingle. After all that, she felt like she'd be too exhausted to do anything else.

She truly couldn't get to Judson tonight.

Eula removed her outer layer, revealing her workout tank, and began running. Then, she tackled the rest of the exercises.

Two hours later, drenched in sweat, she collapsed on the floor, completely spent.

After Dewitt and Rodolfo finished a few exercises, they sparred with each other for a while. Noticing Eula sprawled out on the floor, they exchanged a glance.

They paused and walked over to her.

"Mom, if you're still feeling too stuffed, why don't you join us for some boxing or fencing?" Dewitt suggested.

Eula waved her hands weakly. "No way, I'm done. I need to go to bed."

With a groan, she rolled over and struggled to get up, her legs trembling and her core feeling numb.

She was utterly exhausted. It reminded her of the time Dewitt and Rodolfo had her training in taekwondo—waking up at 6 AM, strapping on a weighted vest, and running ten miles.

Thinking back to those days, she realized she hadn't pushed herself like that in ages.

She braced herself for the possibility that Dewitt and Rodolfo might start making her exercise rigorously again. She thought, 'Who knows, maybe I'll end up becoming a combat expert someday.'
