Chapter 156 Darcy's Secret

Darcy's expression changed, and she looked away. "Eula, some things are better left unknown."

Eula noticed the shift in her demeanor and found it peculiar. "Has someone been messing with you? I'll go sort them out," she offered earnestly.

Darcy chuckled upon seeing Eula's serious face. "Weren't you the one who ended up paying a bunch of money after that fight, and swore off brawling? Even when you ran into that unfaithful Tony Hudson, you didn't use your taekwondo."

Eula flashed a sheepish grin. "I might have sworn off fighting, but if someone's bullying you, how can I not step in? They would deserve everything they get."

Thinking back on the previous night, Darcy sighed. "No, it was all consensual. Don't worry about me."

Still concerned, Eula shook her friend. "Promise me you'll tell me if anything happens. I'm always here for you, no matter what."

Darcy nodded. The two chatted for a while longer. Noticing the time, Eula realized it was late and she had to take her three kids back home.

"They have school tomorrow; don't forget to apply the ointment, it really works," Eula reminded her.

Darcy smiled. "After everything Judson did, maybe you should reconsider him. It's hard to find such a catch, and you might not get another chance."

Eula shook her head decidedly. "I won't consider it."

After all, Judson was Kristina's boyfriend, and Eula wanted nothing to do with him.

"Dewitt, Rodolfo, Angie, time to head home."

Estelle hugged Angie tightly, reluctant to part. "Estelle, be a good girl and get well soon. Once you're better, we can hang out every day just like before."

Nodding, Estelle replied, "Mommy says I'll be better soon. I've found a bone marrow donor."
Hearing that, Eula turned to look at Darcy. "Darcy, did we find another match?"

In her mind, she was still figuring out how to convince Elbert Hicks when, unexpectedly, a match appeared, making the situation with Elbert Hicks no longer a problem. After all, pressuring him given his line of work wasn't ideal.

Darcy thought about the deal from the night before. "Yeah, in a month, Estelle can have her surgery."

Just yesterday she went to plead with Elbert Hicks. The guy had a condition. He wanted her company for a month; if she could satisfy him, he'd agree to donate his marrow to Estelle.

So she had complied with his appalling requests the previous night; every single one of them.

As the memories flashed through her mind, her cheeks tinged with red, and she quickly pulled her thoughts back.

"That's great, Darcy. Your better days are finally coming."

After seeing them off and watching them get into the car, Darcy returned to the hospital.

Angie was exhausted from playing all day and fell asleep in the car shortly after, her head and feet resting on her brothers' legs, sleeping peacefully.

Eula glanced in the rearview mirror and saw how well Dewitt and Rodolfo were taking care of their little sister. She smiled softly, feeling a twinge of envy for Angie. To be so loved and cherished from such a young age, she thought, what a blessed little girl.

Growing up, she would probably be picky about boyfriends, Eula figured. But that was a good thing, to avoid a cad. With two brothers to help her screen for bad seeds, they'd surely keep her clear of the riff-raff.

They reached home by nine-thirty. Eula carried Angie inside, while her sons led the way.

Suddenly, they saw a flurry of papers stuck to the door. They dashed over and ripped one off.

"Debt repossession," scrawled with what looked like threatening symbols in red.

"What's this?" Eula leaned in closer.
