Chapter 148 I'm a Bit Tied Up at the Moment
The group entered the living room, talking and laughing, where John sat in his wheelchair with a stern expression.
Upon seeing Liz, his eyes flickered, then widened in astonishment.
"Umm..."
He tried to lift his hand but couldn't, his wheelchair beginning to shake.
The nurse rushed over promptly, "Mr. Nash, try not to get worked up. Just breathe deeply."
Liz let out a proud chuckle upon seeing John's agitated state.
"If you get this excited over children, you'd pass out if you ever met your great-grandkids."
Angie settled beside John, her chubby little hand reaching out to him.
"Grandpa Nash, do you want some candy?"
John had calmed down a bit, but at the sight of Angie's outstretched hand and her sweet tiny voice, his excitement resurfaced.
His eyes widened, showing his surprise and causing Liz concern.
"Please take John back to his room and ensure he rests for the evening," Liz instructed gently.
Then the servants and nurse wheeled John toward his room as he twisted his head, muttering indistinctly, reluctant to leave.
He wanted to stay and play with the children, but nobody seemed to understand that.
The moment the door to his bedroom closed, a hush fell.
Angie unwrapped the candy and popped it into her mouth.
"It's so sweet!"
Dewitt and Rodolfo sat rigidly, their cool demeanor drawing the glances of several servants.
Eula handed some fruit to the servants, "Grandma, I've brought some fruit. They're nothing fancy compared to what you have, but it's the thought that counts."
Liz held her hand, "Having you visit is joy enough; you didn't need to bring anything. Thank you, Eula."
Liz was dressed in an elegant, dark crimson gown that breathed luxury.
Her silver hair was beautifully styled, and her smile radiated warmth.
Dewitt and Rodolfo remained silent, surveying their surroundings—a habit they'd developed from their youth to observe cautiously in new places.
Angie ate a lollipop, looked and touched things here and there curiously.
Liz’s gaze swept over the three children constantly, the questions in her eyes growing more intense.
She was determined to call Judson back and get to the bottom of things—had he been up to some mischief?
Seeing Angie acting as if she were at home, Eula rose and approached her.
"Angie, you're a little lady; we don't touch everything we see."
Angie raised an eyebrow, "If it's pretty, why can't I touch it?"
Eula couldn't help but laugh, though she sensed the servants watching, likely thinking the little girl lacked sophistication.
It was a bit embarrassing for her!
Observing the two boys not touching the sweets, Liz called out to them.
"Dewitt, Rodolfo, if you're not having candy, have some fruit instead."
Dewitt responded with a simple "Thank you!"
Rodolfo flashed a sunny smile, “Thanks, Grandma Nash!”
After she finished speaking, she stood up. "Eula, make yourselves comfortable. I'm gonna check on the kitchen."
Eula kept a cautious eye on Angie, ready to intervene if she caused a stir. When Angie made her offer, Eula turned and responded.
"Sure thing, Grandma Nash."
Liz headed into the kitchen and dialed her eldest grandson's number. It took a while before the call was picked up on the other end.
"Grandma, what's up?"
"Judson, can't your grandma call you for no reason?"
That darn kid, every time he answered her calls, that was the first thing he said. She didn't like it one bit.
"No, Grandma, I'm kinda tied up at the moment. Maybe I'll call you back later?"
