Chapter 144 Compensation Claim!
Sarah, knowing she was in the wrong, couldn't argue.
Especially since she knew Jaxon had already reached a cooperation agreement with the Johnson family and the Windsor family, apologizing here would be futile.
She could only sigh in disappointment and helplessness, turning and leaving amidst a cacophony of reprimands.
In fact, before coming here, she had considered the possibility of failure.
But she never expected it to be so complete and thorough!
As other companies took advantage of SR Group's weakness and turned to collaborate with the Johnson and Windsor families, the consequences would be unbearable for SR Group.
"Why did it turn out like this?" Sarah cried in grievance.
But she was also worried that if she cried in the hospital corridor, others would see her, so she hurriedly turned and walked into the nearby women's restroom, where she burst into tears.
Ten minutes later, her emotions finally stabilized a bit.
After freshening up, Sarah called Emily.
She asked about the whereabouts of the employees who were injured in the fire.
She wanted to go and visit them. The injured employees were all being treated at Houston First Hospital.
Initially, Sarah planned to apologize to Jaxon first before visiting the employees.
But when the call connected, she heard a noisy voice on the other end, as if someone was arguing about something.
Sara asked in confusion, "What's happening over there? It's so noisy!"
After a while, Emily's voice finally came through, answering, "Sara... we're on the 6th floor! Nothing really happened... Hey! Don't grab my phone..."
Suddenly, there was a burst of noise, and Emily's voice changed into that of a middle-aged woman, cursing and complaining, "So you're Sarah, the CEO of SR Group? Where are you?"
"May I ask who you are?"
"I'm a relative of one of the injured. I need to see someone from your company right now!!"
"Don't worry, I'll be right there!" Sarah hung up.
Without wasting a single second, she hurriedly left the bathroom and took the elevator to the 6th floor!
When she arrived on the 6th floor, Sara saw a crowd of people gathered in front of a certain ward.
At first glance, she saw Emily. She was currently being surrounded by several employees' family members, bombarding her with questions.
Kelly tried to step forward and intervene, but was held back by the other family members, unable to break free.
Sarah quickly approached and said, "Everyone, stop! I'm Sarah, so if there's anything, come at me!"
The crowd stopped.
Emily broke free from the crowd and ran up to Sarah, looking helpless as she said, "Sarah, I'm sorry! I didn't complete the task you assigned me..."
Sara looked at the clear palm print on Emily's left cheek and realized that things were not so simple.
"Don't blame yourself. Let me handle things from here on out."
Emily nodded and stepped aside.
At this moment, a middle-aged woman with a chubby face walked forward from the crowd, her tone unfriendly as she asked, "Are you Sarah, the CEO of SR Group?"
Sarah nodded.
The woman said, "I'm Manuel's wife. My husband was critically injured and hospitalized because of the fire in your company's warehouse. Why did you only show up now? Are you trying to escape without compensating us?"
Sarah patiently explained, "You've misunderstood. I was dealing with company matters all day and had no intention of avoiding anything. As for the medical expenses and compensation for the injured employees, the company will certainly not withhold a single cent. Please rest assured!"
Manuel's wife impatiently waved her hand, "I don't want to hear these words. I just want to know how much compensation we can get, how to compensate, and when. Hurry up and tell me!"
As soon as these words were spoken, other family members of Manuel, including several families of lightly injured employees, gathered around, questioning as well.
There were fifteen or sixteen people, of all ages and genders.
Sarah was already feeling a headache from dealing with Jaxon's wife and his construction workers upstairs.
Now, facing these emotionally charged family members, she felt even more powerless.
All she could do was muster her courage and persuade them, "Please, everyone, stay calm! I can't determine the amount of compensation at this moment, as all the employees are still in the hospital. But I assure you that the company will not hold back any expenses, including the necessary compensation."
“The expenses have not been calculated yet. Everything depends on the settlement amount after the expenses are determined," she added.
Someone expressed doubt, "SR Group has encountered such a big incident and is on the verge of bankruptcy. How would they have money to compensate us?"
Sarah patted her chest and assured, "If the company goes bankrupt, I will personally shoulder the responsibility! I will even borrow money if necessary to provide compensation. Is that acceptable? If you don't believe me, we can write it down as an agreement!"
These words slightly calmed down the emotions of many family members. The CEO had made such a declaration, so she probably wouldn't go back on her word.
However, Manuel's wife did not stop there. She coldly said, "My husband's situation is different. He is severely injured! Even if he recovers, he may still have permanent disability and be unable to work and earn money. How will we manage the rest of our lives?"
Sarah had already been informed about Manuel's injuries. He wasn't burned by the fire but was struck by metal shelves inside the warehouse, resulting in a fractured leg and over twenty stitches on his head. Although there was no life-threatening danger, the possibility of long-term consequences couldn't be ruled out!
At this moment, Emily explained, "All company employees have personal accident insurance. In this situation, the insurance company will provide compensation every month."
"But that won't work either!" Manuel's wife flatly rejected the idea. "Without him, who will take care of our two children and the elderly in our family? Besides the compensation, you also have to bear the expenses of our children's education, from studying to graduating and even getting married, as well as the elderly's support fees. Otherwise, I will sue you in court!"
Upon hearing this, Sarah looked astonished and said, "Theoretically, we shouldn't be responsible for this money!"
Manuel's wife looked dominant and declared, "I don't care! You have to compensate us! Moreover, does such a big company like yours lack our money? I think you're just trying to evade your responsibility!"
As soon as these words came out, the rest of the employees' family members seemed to catch onto something and once again crowded around.
"Then you must pay for our child's education as well!"
"Yeah! Yeah! You must pay for the renovation of our house. After all, our son was involved in an incident at your company!"
"This amount is nothing to a big boss like you. Is it too much to ask for a little compensation? It's only right!"
Listening to the noisy chatter, Sarah felt as if a bomber was flying over her head, making a buzzing sound. Along with dealing with various issues since Ryder was kicked out of the house last night, she hadn't even taken a bite of food.
Her hypoglycemia symptoms were already acting up, and she couldn't bear it any longer. Her vision suddenly went black, and her body began to tilt backwards, as if she was about to fall to the ground.
Suddenly, a pair of hands belonging to a man appeared just in time and pulled her back.
