Chapter 405 Revolver

Seeing this, Ryder smirked, "Your casino got shut down and is under investigation, and you still haven't learned your lesson?"

Mark shuffled the poker cards in his hand, grinning, "My whole fortune's tied up in this casino. I'm too old to change now! Besides, this time we're not playing for cash, we're playing for our lives. The law only cares about money, not lives, so it's all good. Chill out!"

"Playing for lives? Now that's wild!" Ryder leaned back, looking all confident. "I'm in! Now, can you tell me where my wife is?"

"Sure thing!" Mark nodded, pulled out a remote, and pointed it at a TV on the wall, hitting the power button.

The TV flickered on, showing a basement!

The lighting was dim and creepy.

In the middle of the basement, there was a metal cage, about the height of a person!

The cage was locked, with someone inside!

It was Sarah, sitting in the cage, her clothes a bit messy, looking totally hopeless!

Seeing this, Ryder clenched his fists. "What have you done to her?"

Mark chuckled. "Relax, Mr. Clark, I haven't touched your wife. She just struggled a bit when we put her in the cage, but now she knows that without the key, she's not getting out!"

Ryder's eyes turned icy. "So, what's the game?"

"Mr. Clark, straight to the point!" Mark praised, then pressed another button on the remote.

The camera panned down, showing the floor!

From this angle, Ryder could see a 4.5-inch pipe on one side of the basement wall, with water gushing in!

The water was flowing fast, and the level was rising quickly!

At this rate, once the water level gets high enough, Sarah in the cage would drown!

Ryder felt a chill run down his spine, a bad feeling creeping in!

Mark spoke up, "As you can see, the water will cover the cage in about forty minutes, so that's all you have. Beat me, and you get a chance to save her! And don't even think about killing me. The door's locked, and you don't have the key. Plus, you don't even know where this basement is, and the cage needs a key too! So, you gotta play, got it?"

Ryder's eyes narrowed. "Wow, you've really thought this through!"

"Thanks for the compliment!"

"Alright, what's the game?"

Mark grinned, "It's simple. No fancy stuff, just a straight card draw. Each of us draws one card, highest number wins. J, Q, K, A, and jokers all count as one point! Simple and fair, no cheating!"

Ryder nodded, "Alright, let's do this!"

"Hold up!" Mark reached under the table, fumbling around for a bit.

Then he slammed something onto the table!

Ryder squinted and saw it was a black revolver!

Mark picked it up with his right hand, showing it off. "This here is an MR73, a classic revolver, one of my prized possessions! I clean it every day."

As he talked, Mark opened the cylinder, showing six empty chambers, then loaded a single bullet into one of them.

With a flick of his wrist, the cylinder spun for a good ten rounds before stopping.

Smooth and practiced!

He aimed the gun at Ryder with a half-smile. "If I pull the trigger now, think a bullet will come out?"

Ryder stared down the barrel and smirked, "Do you think I care?"

The tension hung in the air for over ten seconds!

Mark suddenly lowered the gun and chuckled, "Mr. Clark, I admire your optimism in such a tight spot!"

"Optimism beats pessimism. What's the point of living if you don't enjoy it?" Ryder shrugged.

Mark's eyes locked onto Ryder. "Since you enjoy life, let's add another rule. Every time we determine a winner, we fire a shot. If I lose, I shoot myself. If you lose, I shoot you! Thrilling, right?"

"Yeah, thrilling!" Ryder nodded.

Mark continued, "If I win in the end, I promise to release Sarah. If you win, you'll have a chance to save her! Fair enough?"

"Deal!"

"Alright, I'll shuffle the cards!" Mark started shuffling.

He quickly finished and placed the deck in the middle of the table.

Mark said, "You draw first!"

Ryder swiftly drew a card and flipped it over!

Four of Hearts!!

Mark glanced at it. "Looks like your luck's pretty average, Mr. Clark!"

With that, Mark casually drew a card and flipped it over!

Queen of Diamonds!

One point!

Ryder won!

Ryder smirked. "Seems your luck's even worse than mine, Mark!"

Mark stayed calm. "This is just the beginning!"

He raised the revolver, pointing it at the left side of his forehead.

Taking a deep breath, he pulled the trigger!

No gunpowder explosion.

Mark exhaled sharply, a faint smile on his lips. "I knew it, my luck ain't that bad! Let's keep going!"

Now that one shot was fired, there were five shots left with one bullet.

When the bullet would come out was still unknown!

They began drawing the second card!

This time, Mark flipped his card first.

Seven of Clubs!

Ryder drew a Three of Hearts!

A bloodthirsty gleam appeared in Mark's eyes.

He raised the revolver, pointing it at Ryder. "Maybe this is your chance to say your last words!"
