Chapter 469 A Man Cannot Be Mediocre!
When Lily's relatives heard the news, their eyes practically popped out of their heads, showing their anticipation.
Betty jumped up, all excited. "Really? He's coming over soon?"
Luna nodded. "Yep!"
Betty took a deep breath, looking a bit nervous. "You should've told me earlier. If I had known it, I would've changed into something nicer!"
Luna laughed. "Don't worry about it. He's super chill. He won't care!"
Just as she finished talking, they heard a car engine shut off outside.
Luna's face lit up. "He's here!"
She got up and dashed to the door.
Lily's relatives, including Betty, all stood up and headed to the door too, not wanting to seem rude.
They all gathered at the door and saw a red BMW parked in the yard.
A medium-built guy with short hair, a gold necklace, and sunglasses stepped out of the car.
He tossed a cigarette butt on the ground and stomped it out, grumbling, "These country roads are the worst!"
Luna ran over and grabbed Louis's arm.
She introduced him to everyone, "This is my boyfriend, Louis Roberts!"
Betty immediately walked down the steps, smiling. "Just like Luna said, you're really handsome!"
Mario circled around Louis's BMW, eyes wide. "Is this the high-end model?"
Louis glanced over, looking a bit smug. "Yeah, it cost over two hundred grand."
"A car worth over two hundred grand?" Betty was floored!
Living in Jakarda City, she had barely been to Houston, let alone seen luxury cars.
The only luxury cars she knew were Mercedes and BMW.
So when she found out this car cost over two hundred grand, she was totally shocked.
Seeing Betty's reaction, Louis couldn't help but feel a sense of pride!
He loved seeing this kind of admiration from country folks, so he took the chance to say, "It's pretty average. I'm planning to buy a sports car worth over six hundred grand soon!"
Hearing this, Luna looked hopeful. "Honey, is it for me?"
Louis's expression turned awkward.
But with everyone watching, he had to go along with it. "Of course, it's for you."
Luna tilted her head and kissed Louis on the cheek. "Honey, you're the best!"
Seeing their sweet moment, Betty couldn't help but say to Susan and Philip, "With such a good boyfriend, Luna will have a bright future, and it seems that you won't have to worry about money ever again!"
Susan and Philip looked pleased.
Deborah and Mario also smiled and said that when their daughter graduated from college, she should learn from Luna and find an awesome boyfriend like Louis, not someone like Lily's boyfriend, who clearly couldn't make much money!
After some small talk, Luna noticed that Lily, Ryder, and Mia hadn't come out.
She frowned a bit, thinking Lily was disrespecting her, so she decided not to hold back!
Then she reminded everyone, "Louis just got out of the car and hasn't had dinner yet. Let's go inside."
Lily's relatives all chimed in at once, "Right! We almost forgot!"
"Come on in. We made a ton of delicious food tonight. Make yourself at home!"
"Watch your step. No need to take off your shoes! No wonder you're a big shot at a company; you have such a presence!"
As soon as they walked in, Susan turned to Ryder, "Get up and let Louis sit here. Go grab another chair!"
Lily was quick to object. "What do you mean by that? Why should Ryder move?"
Susan pursed her lips and shot back, "What's the big deal? It's Louis's first time here. Should he have to get his own chair? That would be so rude!"
Lily frowned, clearly annoyed. "But it's Ryder's first time here too. Why should he have to get a chair?"
Susan and Deborah exchanged a look and couldn't help but smirk. They never thought much of Ryder from the start.
Sensing the tension, Mia stood up and smiled to ease things. "Louis, sit here. I'll go get a chair and some utensils for you!"
With that, Mia turned and got busy.
Susan took it all in stride and said to Louis, "Just tell me what you need, and I'll get it for you!"
Louis nodded and glanced around. He was stunned when his eyes landed on Lily.
'She's really beautiful!' he thought.
He couldn't help but ask, "Who is she?"
Luna pursed her lips and introduced sarcastically, "She's Lily, my cousin I mentioned before! She's been working in Houston for years. Who knows how much money she's made! She even brought her boyfriend today; that's him over there!"
"She has a boyfriend?" Louis sounded a bit disappointed as he looked at Ryder.
Louis sized him up. His clothes were plain and cheap. Compared to himself, they were not in the same league at all. How could someone like him get such a beautiful girlfriend?
Louis deliberately showed off his branded watch, poured a glass of wine, and raised his glass to everyone. "Thank you all for taking care of Luna! Let's have a drink together!"
The relatives all respectfully raised their glasses. Although Lily was in a bad mood, she also raised her glass with Ryder and took a sip.
Mario warmly said to Louis, "We're family now. We should help each other. I run a seafood supermarket in Jakarda City, and I heard you're a manager at the largest seafood trading company. So I think ..."
Before he could finish, Louis already got the hint. He generously said, "Don't worry, any benefits I get from my business, I'll share with you!"
Mario was delighted and quickly filled Louis's glass, then toasted him, "Let's enjoy tonight!"
Louis sat back and casually clinked glasses with the fawning Mario. They both drank it all.
At that moment, Susan suddenly looked at Ryder and asked with a mocking smile, "Ryder, your job in Houston is pretty average. Why not ask Louis to get you a better job? After all, as a man, being mediocre is not good!"
