Chapter 227 Your Son's Arms and Legs Are on Their Way!
Although Ryder had told Sarah about Karen's actions, deep down, she was still doubtful. What if there were other possibilities? After all, she was her biological mother, and the thought of her doing such a thing was unimaginable!
But when she heard Karen admit it, Sarah's mind went blank for a moment! It... it really was her!!!
Sarah no longer wanted to know the reasons behind it, as they would surely be unreasonable and absurd!
Ryder, unsurprised, continued to question Karen. "Secondly, did you intentionally set up a situation to get Ernest drunk and catch me in bed with another woman in an attempt to frame me and threaten Sarah with divorce?"
Karen nodded!
"What? There's more to this?" Sarah's eyes widened, and she felt a surge of anger in her chest! She had always naively believed that her father was the one who had been caught cheating red-handed. She hadn’t realized the hidden truth behind it!
With a cold expression on her face, Sarah asked Karen, "Mom! Why would you do this? What kind of mother hopes for her daughter's divorce? Do you realize how unfair it would be to Ryder if your plan had succeeded and caused me to get the wrong idea and divorce him?"
Karen pursed her lips, remaining silent, appearing indifferent to Sarah's words, which only served to infuriate Sarah even more!
Dealing with such an extreme mother was truly exasperating!
"One last question!" Ryder's eyes darkened, "Do you remember the incident with the missing thousand dollars six months ago?"
Karen paused. "A thousand dollars? I don’t remember!"
Ryder sneered, "You Americans sure have bad memories, but I will never forget! Six months ago, my sister Ava suddenly gave me a pair of shoes, saying it was a birthday gift for me. But the next day, you lost a thousand dollars and insisted that Ava stole it because it was impossible for her to have that much money with her financial situation! She was punished, made to kneel, denied meals, and you even slapped her! Hah... you took advantage of her..."
Ryder Clark tightened his fists and continued, "Later, I learned from a teacher at school that she had won the money she used to buy me the shoes in a math competition. It was a surprise specifically for me! But she chose to bear it all alone just so I could stay with the Johnson family! What's more important is that on the day Ava won the award, the homeroom teacher called our house and told you about it, and yet you never mentioned it afterwards! Now, did this happen?"
"Ah? Well..." Karen looked guilty and surprised. She hadn’t expected Ryder to bring this up.
"Cough cough! That was just a small matter, we should let the past be the past, why are you bringing it up..." Karen said, trying to dismiss it.
"Who told you it was a small matter?" Ryder shouted, suddenly raising his voice.
Karen was startled by Ryder's intense gaze.
Ryder stared at Karen intensely and said, "Let me tell you, nothing related to my sister is ever a small matter!"
Karen felt uncomfortable Under Ryder's gaze and impatiently said, "Fine! What do you want then? Spit it out!"
"I just asked you three questions. The victims were Sarah, me, and my sister! What I need from you is an apology! And I want you to apologize while kneeling down!"
Both Karen and Sarah were shocked.
Karen’s face twisted in anger as she scolded Ryder, "You useless piece of trash! I tried to be nice to you! I can tolerate apologizing for those things, but you want me to kneel down and apologize? Take a look at yourself, are you even worthy?"
Ryder shrugged and said indifferently, "Whether I'm worthy or not is up to you, but my requirement won't change. If you want to save your unfortunate son, do as I say. If you don't want to, then forget it, or you can get someone else to help you, it's fine by me!"
"You... you brat! I'll slap you to death!" Karen was so angry that she raised her hand to slap Ryder, but Ryder grabbed her hand firmly.
He stared at her with cold eyes and said, "Why don't you use this fierceness against the loan sharks? Bullies are afraid of tough people!"
With that, Ryder pushed Karen, causing her to stumble and fall to the ground.
She fell on her butt.
Sarah started to help her up out of instinct, but then she realized that Karen had brought this on herself, so she stood still and didn't move.
Karen, however, refused to accept this and started throwing a tantrum on the ground. She pulled her own hair with one hand while slapping herself with the other. "Ouch! This can't be happening! It can't be happening! Our shameless son-in-law dared to hit me? Is there no one who can mediate? This despicable person... this heartless creature..."
Ryder was no stranger to Karen's tantrums.
He simply closed the door.
He walked over and picked up the overturned sofa, then sat on top of it, propping up his legs, and faced Karen with a calm expression. "Please continue your performance. I'm watching."
Karen was speechless at first, then said, "Fine! You think you’re someone, huh, Ryder? You got a little bit of money and started acting all high and mighty, right? So what? I can manage on my own without your money!"
Karen was so furious that she gritted her teeth and took out her phone to call her friends who had good connections to borrow money!
Of course, she wasn’t going to mention that Kyle owed money to loan sharks and needed to repay them because she didn’t want to be embarrassed.
Instead, she fabricated a reason, saying that her family's company had found a big investment opportunity and needed a small amount of money. She wasn't trying to borrow the money, it was a partnership investment that would quickly return the money with interest, and so on.
Unfortunately, Karen made over a dozen calls without managing to borrow a single penny. Every single one of them rejected her!
By this time, it was nine o'clock in the evening.
Karen was becoming increasingly desperate and came up with the idea of contacting a real estate company to mortgage her house.
But the response she received was that the old walk-up apartment in Baytown wasn't in high demand. Even if she wanted to sell it urgently, it would only fetch around six or seven hundred thousand dollars, far from the two million dollars she needed.
Time was running out.
Karen's face began to turn pale.
She grabbed Sarah's hand and pleaded, "My dear, please think of a way to help him, can you?"
Sarah shook her head helplessly. She couldn't be of much assistance.
