Chapter 170 Night Assault on Horse Creek!

The story came to an end.
There was a long, heavy silence. The trials Thelma had faced were beyond anyone’s wildest expectations.
Beneath the facade of a kind and honest woman lay a torrent of undeserved suffering. Just yesterday she had taken out all 20,000 of her entire life savings, to help Sarah, even with all the challenges she had been through in life.
P
Ryder was deeply moved by the thought.
Sarah couldn't hold back her tears any longer. Furious, she exclaimed, "I can't believe there are scumbags like Patrick in this world! Hasn’t Thelma ever called the cops on him?"
With a wry smile, Thelma's cousin answered, "You think we haven't? But what's the point? That guy's nothing but a thug. Every time he gets arrested, he comes out and retaliates against Thelma even worse than before. Thelma got so scared after being beaten that she was afraid to call the police! Besides, his parents are real pieces of work too. Whenever their son gets arrested, they rally the relatives and make a scene at the precinct, to the point where even the cops are afraid of them!"
A cold glint appeared in Ryder's eyes as he heard that. "Bullies like that only respond to force. Reason and decency don't work on them!"
"But we can’t let him get away with it, especially when lives are at stake!" Sarah interjected.
Thelma's cousin sighed. "The way I see it, Patrick thinks he's invincible. Even if he gets caught, he probably doesn't care. He’s got gambling debts, and jail might even give him a place to hide out for a while. Once he's out, he'll just go back to his old ways, and that's going to keep Thelma and her daughter in misery."
At that moment, Julia, who'd been silent so far, approached Ryder with teary eyes and a choked voice. Determined, she said, "Mister, I know it's wrong to ask, but... but I can't stand to see my mom hurt anymore. Please, if you can, help our family. I'll do anything you ask. I could drop out of school and make a lot of money for you..."
As she attempted to kneel before him, Ryder quickly caught her. "You should never have to kneel to anyone, and that goes for everyone! Don't worry. Thelma’s not only an employee at my wife’s company. She’s someone I deeply respect. Even if you hadn’t asked, I wouldn't just stand idly by."
"Thank you..." Julia sobbed.
Ryder felt a sting in his eyes too. He had sensed Julia’s strong spirit from the moment he met her. Her willingness to kneel and give up her cherished education spoke volumes of her hatred for her father, Patrick.
Even if Ryder hadn't stepped in, he suspected that Julia might go to extremes for revenge. And that would come at a great cost. So, Ryder knew he had to help.
Ding-dong!
Just then, the red light outside the emergency room turned off, and the attending physician stepped out.
As concerned faces crowded around him, the attending physician approached with a smile. "She's pulled through," he said confidently. "The patient lost quite a bit of blood, but her vital organs were unPtouched. After we finish stitching her up, she'll be moved to a room to rest. Everyone can breathe easy now."
A collective sigh of relief passed through the group.
Fortune favors the brave, they thought.
Once it was clear that Thelma was out of danger, Sarah and the others decided to stay until she was transferred out of the emergency room to continue their vigil.
Ryder turned to Sarah, his resolve clear. "I'm going to get justice for Thelma."
Sarah fretted over Ryder's safety, knowing how dangerous a man like Patrick could be. She feared Ryder might get hurt.
Ryder assured her with a nod and left the hospital without looking back, heading straight to Boss Security.
When it came to dealing with scum like Patrick, nobody in Houston was better suited than George. George's crew was highly efficient. In less than an hour, they dug up the dirt on Patrick.
Whispers said Patrick had run into some trouble that evening and had hurriedly made his way to the bus station, heading home in a panic. They even found out who he owed money to – it was Josh, an old acquaintance.
Josh owned a handful of pool halls in Houston, where Patrick had racked up a considerable debt gambling. Josh had been sending his guys to collect these past few days.
Ryder got George to put him in touch with Josh to take him to Patrick's hometown, the quaint Clarksville.
When Josh first got the call from George saying Ryder wanted to see him, he was extremely anxious, fearing he had inadvertently offended that influential figure. But, as soon as he heard Ryder was after Patrick for revenge, he sprang from his lover's bed without hesitation and ordered his Pmen to get the cars ready.
Outside the Boss Security entrance, Josh and about twenty of his associates pulled up in five cars.
Ryder and George walked out to meet them.
Josh rushed forward, bending at a respectful angle. "Hello, Mr. Clark, George," he greeted them.
George addressed Josh with a commanding calm. "You'll accompany Mr. Clark to Clarksville. Take good care of him, and if you neglect your duty, you know the consequences," he warned.
Josh nodded frantically, terrified at the thought of failing to protect Ryder. He wouldn't dare, not even if his life depended on it.
A hint of concern marked George's question to Ryder. "Are you sure you don't want me to come with you, Mr. Clark?"
Ryder shook his head. "Josh will be enough. Besides, with your current transition in status, it would be better for you not to get involved in some."
George knew he had no choice but to obey Ryder and nodded in agreement.
Despite Ryder's insistence on a low-key approach, he found it necessary to bring along a squad of more than twenty of his men.
So, a convoy of over forty people in more than ten vehicles raced through the night, heading straight for Marksville.
Marksville was just over twenty miles from Houston, a mere half-hour drive away.
En route, Ryder rode shotgun in Josh's ride, a robust Mercedes G-Class.
Josh, sitting next to Ryder, was tense.
He had been doing his homework secretly over time and had come to know a thing or two from inside sources. George had been one of Houston's top dogs before Ryder stepped in and changed that.
Indeed, it was this man - the President of Houston Maple Real Estate, a company worth nearly ten billion - who had transformed George's position.
Josh fantasized about receiving Ryder's guidance. Josh felt he could reach great heights with just a little nod from him. He had lamented the lack of opportunity to meet him, until today.
P
After some thought, Josh broke the silence. "Mr. Ryder, if I may ask, what did Patrick do to provoke you into personally seeking revenge?"
A flash of malice swept across Ryder's eyes as he replied, "He injured one of my family members, who’s now in the hospital."
When he heard that, Josh swallowed nervously and couldn't help but reflect on Patrick's dire situation.
Even a miracle couldn’t save Patrick now.
