Chapter 464 Heather's Burial!
Sending Heather's ashes into space? Seriously?
When they heard Ryder say that, they knew he was being a bit sarcastic. But with Ryder's status and power, no one dared to challenge him.
Andy, feeling quite helpless, tried to reason with Ryder, "Ryder, come on, let's not joke around. Funerals are serious business."
Ryder's face stayed serious. "I'm not joking. I've read about famous people having their ashes scattered in the ocean or from a plane over the mountains. Sending Heather's ashes into space would be huge news, probably nationwide! You all keep saying you want a grand funeral, but are you really not willing to spend a bit more?"
The Johnson family members were left speechless. Compared to Ryder, they were all broke, especially Andy, who was sweating bullets.
Honestly, Andy didn't care how Heather's funeral went. He wouldn't mind if her ashes were turned into fireworks. His main goal was to make money off Ryder and Sarah.
Andy wiped his forehead and said, "Ryder, we can cover the costs, but you need to hand over a hundred million dollars. Don't worry about the rest; we'll take care of everything."
The others chimed in, "Yeah, you're busy. Just pay up, and we'll handle the rest!"
"Exactly, don't worry. We'll add the extra ten million dollars to the fund!"
Ryder's eyes turned mocking. He had never seen such shameless people. It was hard to believe they thought they could fool anyone with that.
Ryder chuckled, "No way. I can give you a hundred million right now, but I need to see your ten million first. If you can't do that, we're not covering the funeral expenses."
The Johnson family looked at each other, anxious but helpless. They really couldn't come up with the money.
Ryder turned to Sarah and Ernest, "Since they won't pay the ten million, as agreed, the rest is not our problem. Let's go."
Ernest looked at Heather's coffin with a complicated expression, then at the unwilling faces of the Johnson family members. He sighed, nodded, and left with Sarah and Ryder.
As soon as they left, Andy angrily swung his fist, "That bastard won again!"
The others fell into silence as they were used to losing to Ryder.
A young man asked, "Andy, what do we do now?"
Andy snapped, "What else? Go to the crematorium and cremate Heather. Since the funeral didn't happen, we might as well bury her sooner."
"What about the funeral expenses?"
"Just do it for a thousand bucks! Heather was super frugal when she was alive, so there's no need to go all out for the funeral. The simpler, the better!"
Andy's word was law in the Johnson family, so they got moving fast.
They called the crematorium and headed straight there to cremate Heather. Afterward, they bought the cheapest urn they could find. Then, they all went to the cheapest cemetery in Houston. The total cost? Exactly a thousand dollars.
Heather probably never imagined her funeral would be this basic. She likely thought it would be grand, way better than the average person's. But nope, it was just a thousand bucks. This level of simplicity wouldn't even be seen at some rich people's pet funerals.
But something unexpected happened during Heather's burial. As Andy was holding Heather's urn, ready to bury it, he tripped and fell. The urn hit the ground, the lid popped off, and a gust of wind blew Heather's ashes all over Andy's face. He freaked out, screamed, and backed away quickly.
In his panic, he even started hallucinating. He thought he saw Heather's grim face in the ashes, reaching out with bloody hands to strangle him. Terrified, Andy's eyes rolled back, and he fainted, shocking everyone there.
They rushed Andy to the hospital while some gathered Heather's ashes back into the urn, and buried her carelessly. The whole funeral was a joke and would soon become a laughingstock in Houston.
By ten o'clock that night, Andy was discharged from the hospital, looking really down. The burial incident had genuinely scared him. Even though he seemed to handle everything smoothly, he was actually on edge and fearful. If it ever came out that he killed Heather, he was done for.
To avoid any possible exposure, he decided to get rid of all of Heather's belongings. Seeing her stuff around made him uneasy and scared. So, as soon as he got home, Andy gathered people to clear out Heather's room, claiming it as a commemoration of her.
The others didn't think much of it and started moving Heather's belongings out one by one. They piled everything in the yard, ready to burn it all.
When Sandra heard about this, she went to Andy, clearly upset. She thought keeping Heather's things would help her remember Heather. Burning everything didn't make sense, but Andy was determined. Those items had to go. He even went into Heather's bedroom himself to move things.
While cleaning out Heather's nightstand, Andy suddenly remembered something. Heather rarely let anyone into her bedroom, especially near her nightstand drawer. Not even the maid who served her closely touched it.
He couldn't help but wonder, 'Could there be a secret hidden in there?'
Thinking this, he grabbed a hammer and broke the lock on the nightstand drawer. He opened it and was stunned by what he found.
