Chapter 354 Hosting a Banquet!
Ryder asked, "Who are you?"
Brian replied with a smile, "I'm the Davis family's butler. You can just call me Brian! I apologize for what happened earlier."
"It's fine," Ryder responded calmly.
Brian continued to explain, "After all, Mr. Kenneth Davis's death was hard for them to accept, so they acted without Mr. Mark Davis's knowledge.
"When Mr. Mark Davis found out, he immediately sent me to stop them. We believe that someone of Mr. Clark's stature wouldn't resort to assassinating Mr. Kenneth Davis.
"Please rest assured, Mr. Clark. I will severely punish those people later."
Hearing this, Ryder smiled faintly. "I hope so. If there's nothing else, I'll head upstairs."
"Wait a moment!" Brian said.
"What else is there?" Ryder asked.
Brian's expression became slightly more serious. "In addition to addressing this issue, Mr. Mark Davis is deeply regretful for the actions of his men. As a gesture of apology, he will host a banquet tonight and hopes you, Mr. Clark, will honor us with your presence."
"A banquet?" Ryder’s eyes narrowed slightly.
Kenneth had just died yesterday, and tonight they were hosting a banquet to invite him!
It seemed far from a genuine apology.
On the contrary, it seemed like an obvious trap!
Especially given Daniel’s earlier claim that their actions were independent of the Davis family's orders—it was hard to believe.
Given Mark's deep-rooted influence in Houston over the years, it was clear how powerful he was!
No matter what happened, his subordinates would never act out of line without his explicit consent, especially under such a significant pretext as Kenneth’s death.
If they did, it would be akin to signing their own death warrant.
So, whether Mark was aware of Daniel’s actions or not was a given—both sides understood the implications without needing to state it outright.
At this moment, Sophia stepped forward and whispered to Ryder, "Mr. Clark, don't agree to this. Mark is not someone you want to cross."
Ryder naturally knew Mark was not someone to mess with!
However, he also recognized that avoiding the situation wouldn’t solve anything; it would only leave him more vulnerable.
The conflict with the Davis family had reached a critical point, and to move forward, Ryder had to confront it head-on.
Moreover, ever since he inherited his father's fortune, Ryder had set his sights beyond Houston, aiming for a broader horizon!
If he couldn't get past Mark, everything else would be in vain!
So Ryder nodded lightly. "Alright, I'll be there tonight!"
Hearing this, Brian squinted slightly and nodded. "Excellent. I’ll see you then."
With that, he turned around and returned to the black business car and left.
Watching the business car disappear, Ryder murmured softly, "The storm is coming."
Rex scratched his head, a bit confused, and asked, "Ryder, what do you mean by that?"
Ryder smiled. "Nothing to worry about. Just get the car ready. I need to visit George for an important matter."
"Got it!" Rex responded, heading off to make the arrangements.
Meanwhile, at the Johnson family residence.
In Grandma Johnson's room, there were only two people, Grandma Johnson and Sandra!
Grandma Johnson frowned, looking worried, and asked Sandra, "Sandra, isn't this too risky? If Mark finds out the truth, the consequences will be unimaginable!"
Just now, Sandra had told her some shocking news!
Kenneth was dead, and it was Sandra who had arranged the car accident that killed him!
Sandra smiled confidently. "Mom, don't worry! I've made all the arrangements. All the suspicion is on Ryder. Plus, I personally went to the Davis family last night to make a convincing case to Mark. He's already decided to eliminate Ryder at all costs! And he won't suspect me at all!"
Hearing this, a ruthless glint flashed in Grandma Johnson's small eyes. "Hmph! If that's the case, then Kenneth deserved to die! Failing twice at Ryder's hands, how useless!
"But now that Mark is personally involved, things are different. After all, he is a cunning man!"
Sandra nodded. "Mom, just keep this to yourself. Don't tell anyone else in our family. Lawrence and the others are useless and will only mess things up if they find out!"
"Don't worry, I know what to do!" Grandma Johnson assured.
"By the way, Mom, there's one more thing..."
The two were chattering in the room, not noticing Abigail standing at the door, overhearing everything!
Abigail had come over this morning intending to ask Grandma Johnson for money to buy a sports car!
Instead, she had stumbled upon a significant secret.
A sly, triumphant smile crept across her lips as she began to plot her next move.
In Houston, at a high-end city hospital, Barbara was packing her personal belongings.
Not long ago, she and Ryder were kidnapped and spent three days and nights in the mountains, where she took an arrow for Ryder and ended up hospitalized.
Today, she was finally being discharged!
During her entire hospital stay, besides Sarah, Ryder often visited her.
In contrast, the Johnson family had only sent Sandra once, and that visit was only to pressure Barbara into marriage.
As Barbara packed her belongings, Sarah walked into the hospital room. "Barbara, I told you to wait for me. Why did you start packing on your own?"
Barbara glanced up with a smile. "I can manage on my own! Did Ryder come by?"
Sarah shook her head. "He's been busy lately, so he didn't come. What do you need him for?"
Barbara quickly brushed it off. "Oh, nothing!"
Barbara shook her head repeatedly, then turned away and muttered softly, "Hmph! Who would want to see that annoying guy anyway!"
Despite her words, a hint of disappointment flashed in her eyes!
Sarah didn't notice this because ever since she learned from Ryder about Barbara's tragic experiences abroad, she felt more sympathy for Barbara and treated her with sisterly affection!
Sarah said, "Barbara, after you're discharged, why don't you stay at our place for a while? Given your current situation, going back to the Johnson family home might not be very pleasant!"
Barbara looked a bit worried. "Sarah, wouldn't that be inconvenient?"
Sarah shook her head and smiled. "Not at all. Our house is big enough! But once you're in, try not to provoke Ryder. I'm really afraid you two might end up fighting!"
Hearing this, Barbara's cheeks flushed slightly, and she huffed, "I wouldn't stoop to his level, but if he bullies you, I won't let him off!"
Sarah waved her fist proudly. "How can he bully me? Dream on! Besides, Ryder has always been very good to me and has never lost his temper with me!"
Seeing this, Barbara's expression subtly showed a hint of envy!
Suddenly, she thought of something and said to Sarah, "Sarah, after I'm discharged, I want to go somewhere. Can you take me?"
