Chapter 642 Revenge for a New Life!
As soon as the classmates heard Saskia's name, the room erupted into chaos!
"That's right, campus beauty Saskia was Ryder's girlfriend—no, wait—ex-girlfriend! When they broke up, the whole school knew about it. It even made it onto the school forum!"
"Haha, I remember that clearly," another added. "Didn't our school go through that whole 'Ryder got cheated on' phase? Speaking of which, tonight's reunion was organized by Alfonso Jackson! He and Saskia will definitely arrive together later!"
"Hey, could you guys keep it down?" someone hissed. "The man himself is sitting right here! It was because of the breakup with Saskia, plus some family issues, that he moved back to Houston to be a live-in son-in-law! I heard he married some 'Houston's number one beauty' or whatever."
"What number one beauty?" scoffed another classmate. "Look at the Moore family, one of Aurora City's elite families—they also brought in a live-in son-in-law! Everyone said the Moore heiress was just 'slightly curvy' with fair skin, a pretty face, and long legs. But when I attended their wedding, she had to be at least 300 pounds."
Ryder listened to the increasingly inappropriate discussion, growing more uncomfortable by the second. When it came to his wife, he had zero tolerance for disrespect.
Just as he was about to speak up in defense, the private room door swung open.
Saskia walked in, radiating confidence. She wore a white floor-length dress paired with chestnut-colored flowing hair.
Her figure was graceful, her makeup subtle. Absolutely stunning.
For a brief moment, Ryder was transported back years ago. The first time he met Saskia, she had dressed just as innocently. But reflecting on it now, he felt absolutely nothing.
Saskia walked straight to Zane with practiced ease.
Zane handed her a glass. "Saskia, we've been waiting for you. You're late."
After exchanging brief pleasantries, she spotted Ryder in the corner.
She faltered for just half a second before immediately asking Zane, "Wasn't Alfonso supposed to be here? Where is he?"
"Don't worry, he's coming soon," Zane replied, momentarily surprised. "Actually, Alfonso contacted me and specifically asked about how you've been doing! Seems like he has feelings for you! When you become the wealthy Mrs. Weaver, don't forget about me!"
"Of course not," Saskia replied with a smile that could charm anyone.
"No wonder Alfonso, that notorious playboy, still can't get over you!" Zane laughed.
During their conversation, Zane made a point of introducing Ryder and Donna. Saskia's attitude was frighteningly cold.
Soon, Alfonso arrived like a spotlight followed him—the rich heir aura in full effect. He paused briefly when he saw Ryder. Back in college, though they were classmates, they barely interacted.
One was a brilliant student from a poor rural background, the other was the son of Aurora City's elite Weaver family. Yet they had clashed because of Saskia, the class beauty.
But women are pragmatic, and Saskia had ultimately chosen Alfonso. Now, she immediately shed her earlier coldness. She rushed to Alfonso's side, wrapping her arm around his.
She clung to him, even planted a kiss on his cheek, displaying extreme intimacy.
Alfonso reciprocated aggressively, his hands wandering freely. Their perfect match of talent and beauty was torture for the singles present, while Alfonso's vanity was thoroughly satisfied.
With his arrival, the banquet officially began. Waiters brought out platters of exquisite dishes from the Phoenix Grand Hotel, Aurora City's six-star establishment.
All these lavish dishes were made with the freshest imported ingredients—even the nuts and seeds they'd been snacking on earlier were the finest quality available.
Come to think of it, Ryder was genuinely hungry, having only eaten a sandwich at noon. He ate with gusto while Alfonso watched with contempt and disdain.
Yet Alfonso still wore a smile as he addressed Ryder in the corner.
Raising his glass, he spoke up, "Ryder, long time no see! How did you end up delivering packages for an outsider company like Maple Group? Weren't you a live-in son-in-law back in Houston? Don't tell me you came all the way from Houston to Aurora City just for a decent meal?"
He laughed at his own joke, and the classmates around the table joined in.
Since a toast was offered, Ryder naturally returned it, "You know, Alfonso, thanks for helping me identify a toxic woman!"
"Ryder, you—!" Saskia flashed with anger.
But Alfonso held her back, continuing to laugh, "You know, Ryder, being a live-in son-in-law can't be easy, right? Having to please your wife, mother-in-law, father-in-law—the whole family! Washing feet and mopping floors must be routine for you! Though living off a woman might not be dignified, it's better than starving. At least there's hope—you might get rich someday!"
"That's exactly right," Zane quickly chimed in. "Still better prospects than being a delivery guy."
This time, Ryder didn't respond. The classmates chattered away, bringing up previous insults again.
Throughout it all, Ryder remained silent, which made it boring for them.
In everyone's eyes, Ryder had been defeated by social reality—a resigned coward. Mocking someone like that would only lower their own status, so the classmates refocused on flattering Alfonso.
Alfonso, satisfied and slightly tipsy with a beauty in his arms, announced, "Well, Saskia and I will be heading out now. Everyone enjoy yourselves—I'm covering the bill!"
"Great, great! A night of passion is worth a thousand gold! Go on!" Zane enthusiastically applauded.
"Yes, go ahead!" the classmates echoed, laughing and teasing.
Soon, Alfonso and Saskia left arm in arm. Throughout it all, Ryder didn't even glance their way.
Zane then approached Ryder and asked, "Ryder, how does it feel watching your first love go off to get a room with Alfonso?"
"No feelings whatsoever," Ryder replied flatly.
"Well, well! I didn't expect you to be so open-minded!" Zane burst out laughing.
Ryder shot him a cold look that made Zane think it was even more terrifying than his boss Eli's. "Okay, okay, I'll drop it!"
But then he remembered Ryder was just a delivery guy. This was probably just his last shred of defiance—inside, he must be full of regret.
Then, offering fake consolation: "Ryder, I'm not judging, but you're doing okay. At least you had her first. If you think about it, the rich guy's girlfriend is your leftovers—you should be proud!"
Other classmates joined in with their "comforting" words:
"Exactly! We're all jealous you had a girlfriend like that!"
"A little stories make life worth living."
Words with thorns.
"This is beyond boring! If there's nothing else, I'm leaving!" Ryder stood up, not bothering to waste more words on these idiots.
Donna also rose, hurrying after Ryder while the classmates continued their whispered gossip:
"Look at Ryder and Donna!"
"I always suspected something between those two, now it's confirmed!"
"Hahaha, seeing Alfonso and Saskia go off to do their thing probably made these two desperate too."
Outside the private room, Donna's expression turned serious: "Ryder, something's really wrong! I initially thought Saskia might kill someone at the banquet, but she didn't make a move. Now I'm 100% certain—her target is Alfonso!"
"What do you mean?"
"Here, look at this and you'll understand!" Donna handed him her phone, displaying a private post she'd captured using her hacking skills.
The gist was: Saskia's entire life had been ruined by one person, and now nothing could be restored, so she'd decided to seek revenge against that person to start anew!
Ryder was unconvinced. "Based on one private post, you've deduced all this? Think you're writing a detective novel?"
"Actually, I've been thinking," Donna stomped her foot, "and I know this might be disrespectful to your wife, but Ryder, I think you need to know some truths!"
Ryder frowned.
"But our immediate priority is to prevent a tragedy. Afterward, I'll show you Saskia's old private journals! I'm afraid you'll regret it if something terrible happens!"
Just then, his phone chimed. A message from his wife Sarah.
Just two words:
Help me!
