Chapter 542 Evening, Rigal Distric Stadium
New York City train station.
Lily arrived first, followed by Ryder.
"Here, let me take that!" Ryder took Lily's backpack.
Lily didn't stand on ceremony.
After handing it over, she deliberately walked around Ryder in a circle.
Raising an eyebrow, she asked, "It's been over a month. So, what do you think? Did I level up in the looks department?"
"Stunning," Ryder nodded.
Today, Lily was wearing nude stockings, a short skirt, and a tight top, with her long hair styled in waves!
She looked like a sexy fairy straight out of an anime!
If Ryder hadn't taken a closer look, he almost wouldn't have recognized her!
Lily stuck out her tongue. "So, compared to Sarah, who's prettier?"
What?
Ryder spoke calmly, "In a husband's heart, his wife is always the most beautiful!"
"I knew you'd say that!" Lily pouted.
But the next second, she spread her slender arms and gave Ryder a bear hug!
"What's this?"
Lily shrugged, "Old classmates reuniting—gotta mark the occasion, right? Let's kick it off with a hug!"
Ryder's brain short-circuited.
Chest to chest, he could clearly feel the softness of Lily's breasts!
Even the sweet scent of her hair filled his nostrils!
Just as Ryder started to zone out, Lily pulled back, took a big step, and pointed at him, cracking up, "What's with the nerves? You're blushing like crazy!"
Ryder picked up his phone to ease the awkward atmosphere.
Lily pouted, "Your fault for not calling me beautiful!"
But Ryder didn't respond to her at all.
He was busy looking at his phone and replying to several messages!
"Ah, chatting with Sarah again?" Lily grumbled discontentedly beside him.
"No!"
"Oh? Then who is it? A mistress you found outside?" Lily covered her mouth, pretending to be shocked.
Ryder glanced at Lily, his eyes twinkling. "Lily, if I remember correctly, you majored in acting in college?"
Lily pouted, "I'm surprised you remember! But why are you asking this all of a sudden?"
Ryder's lips curled into a playful smile. "I suddenly miss directing horror films in Houston. How about it, interested in being the lead actress?"
"Huh? What do you mean, you want me to play a ghost? What kind of ghost? Did you invest in an entertainment company?"
Ryder raised an eyebrow. "You'll know when you get there!"
In the evening, Rigal Distric Stadium.
The front area was a temporary sleeping spot set up by the Young family's construction workers, and the lights were gradually going out.
But at the back of the stadium, it was pitch black!
Yet outside the wall, a faint light could be seen.
It was Ryder holding a flashlight!
And in front of him—a horde of "ghosts" had gathered!
Not just a handful near Ryder, but looking closer—
Holy crap, the entire perimeter of the stadium was swarming with "ghosts"!
Hundreds of them, all sharing one eerie trait: scorched faces!
Fierce and menacing!
Terrifying and horrifying!
At this moment, an "old ghost" with half of his hair missing in the front row spoke, showing a grim expression, "Ryder, the ghost gate of the underworld has opened, and I'm here to seek revenge!"
He then stuck out his tongue, which grew longer and dripped with blood!
Ryder, seeing this, helplessly held his forehead. "Uncle Ryan, stop playing around. We only have ten packs of fake blood, and you've already wasted three!"
That's right, the "old ghost" was played by one of the actors Ryder hired: Ryan.
"Alright, Ryder! Tonight, you're the boss!" Ryan nodded.
After rolling the fake long tongue back into his mouth and taking a sip of fake blood, he fell silent.
Ryan really liked Ryder's plan tonight!
So much so that after Ryder laid it out, Ryan had Clara round up over ninety of their sharpest people to play the part of extras.
If they were gonna pull this off, they were gonna make it epic!
Ryder took out his phone and sent a voice message in the group chat he had set up earlier: "All departments ready, midnight is approaching. Are you ready?"
"Always ready!"
"Always ready!"
"Always ready!"
All department heads responded.
Ryder showed an innocent smile, "Action!"
"Yes!"
"Yes!"
"Yes!"
So, sticking to the plan, Ryan and Rex—the most skilled of the bunch—scaled the wall.
They bolted straight for the workers' rest area near the front gate!
And just like that, they vanished!
Thirty seconds later, the lights in the workers' rest area flickered and then cut out completely.
Even the three massive spotlights overhead went dark.
Total blackout.
The workers started griping:
"Seriously? I was in the middle of a shower, and the power just dies?"
"I was watching the game, and the screen went blank!"
"Dude, it's Halloween. You know theis place is supposed to be haunted. You think it's…"
The more they talked, the more their nerves started to fray.
Bethany, who was in charge of the entire site, put on a coat and came out with a megaphone.
He yelled, "What the hell? Why's everything dark? Someone hit the control room and see if the breaker blew!"
"On it!" The electrician grabbed a flashlight and bolted toward the control room.
But less than three minutes later, he came sprinting back, freaking out, "Ghost! Get away from me!" He was practically tripping over himself!
The workers saw this and panicked:
"Did you hear that? He just yelled ghost!"
"How could we not hear? He really yelled ghost!"
"I know this electrician, he's from my hometown, one of the bravest people there."
Bethany saw this and scolded, "What ghost! Shut up, all of you! We're all educated people, those things don't exist! Look at you all, so scared!"
Then, he looked at the electrician who was lying on the ground. "You, tell me, what exactly happened?"
The electrician shivered all over.
He was clutching his head, snot and tears running down his face, voice quivering, "Bethany, I swear, there's a ghost. Its tongue was all stretched out, and... and it was dripping blood! It said it's here for revenge."
By the time he finished, his pants were soaked—a puddle forming beneath him.
He'd pissed himself from sheer terror!
Seeing this, the workers' eyes were filled with panic.
But Bethany didn't believe in such things!
"You guys, come with me. I want to see who's pretending to be a ghost in the control room. How dare they openly oppose the Young family! They must be tired of living!"
The workers exchanged glances, then nodded. "Alright, let's go!"
Everyone marched toward the control room.
But just then, someone screamed, "Oh my god! My excavator's moving! It's moving! But the keys are in my pocket! Ghost? There's really a ghost!"
