Chapter 643 A Fake Emergency

Meanwhile, in another private room at the Phoenix Grand Hotel, Sarah put her phone to sleep and looked across at Owen. "I've sent the message. I'm sure he'll be here soon."

Since they'd started dinner, Owen had been constantly telling her how wonderful his son Alfonso was, suggesting that Sarah consider divorcing Ryder and marrying Alfonso instead.

He even claimed that a partnership between the Jackson family's subsidiary and SR Group would make waves in Aurora City—perhaps even expanding to Capital City!

Since SR Group had just established itself in Aurora City with their first project being a collaboration with Owen, Sarah naturally didn't want to jeopardize the deal.

But Owen's proposal had been strange: a bet to prove whether a man truly loves a woman by seeing if he'd rush to her rescue after receiving a distress message. Especially convenient since Ryder was already in this very hotel.

It was bizarre, but Owen had promised to sign the contract regardless of whether Ryder showed up or not.

This Owen was clearly childish despite his position as general manager! Sarah figured that by now, Ryder should be finishing dinner with his former classmates.

And if a small bet could secure a major contract... surely Ryder would understand her predicament.

That's why she had sent that message.

True to his word, Owen took out his pen and signed the contract.

He stood up and handed it to Sarah. "Honestly, Sarah, I'm rather hoping that delivery guy husband of yours doesn't show up! That way, my son would have a chance to marry you instead. And with our businesses joining forces—"

What Owen didn't say out loud was that, as a man himself, he understood male nature.

Whether Ryder showed up or not, this little test would create discord in their marriage. Once that rift appeared, his handsome son Alfonso could step in.

This would be Owen's chance to elevate his branch of the family, freeing them from Patricia's control over the main family line.

Besides, Sarah's looks and figure were one-in-a-million—even if she was divorced, she was more than good enough for his son!

And if this stunning young woman happened to prefer mature men like himself, well, he wouldn't mind divorcing and remarrying either.

As Owen was happily plotting his bright future...

BANG!

The private room door was violently kicked open. Ryder stood in the doorway, fury etched across his face.

"You bastard! Stay away from my wife!"

Seeing Owen standing near Sarah, Ryder charged into the room at top speed. His left hand grabbed Owen's collar while his right formed a fist that crashed directly into Owen's left eye.

"ARGH!" Owen howled in pain.

But Ryder wasn't done. His eyes blazed with murderous intent. In the next second, he lifted his foot and slammed it into Owen's stomach.

Owen landed hard, his entire body crumpling to the floor as he looked up at Ryder with fear. "D-don't come any closer!" he stammered.

Ryder had been training his body not just through his daily package deliveries, but also through combat practice with Rex at home.

After nearly twenty days of this regimen, his physical condition had significantly improved.

That single punch and kick were enough to nearly take out a fifty-something-year-old man like Owen.

But Ryder wasn't satisfied. Anyone who dared disrespect Sarah deserved death!

Rage coursed through his veins as he moved forward to continue the beating.

This series of actions had thoroughly shocked both Owen and Sarah.

Owen was beyond words, lying on the floor in agony.

Sarah finally snapped out of her stupor and rushed forward to grab Ryder, positioning herself between him and Owen.

"Ryder, what are you doing? Are you trying to kill him? Stop! It's all a misunderstanding!"

"I..." Ryder's voice caught as he pulled Sarah into his arms. Stroking the back of her head, his tone softened. "I'm sorry for letting you face danger again. I promise it won't happen next time."

Hearing this, Sarah's body trembled. She never expected Ryder to say such things to her. Her nose tingled as emotion welled up inside her.

Suddenly, she realized how inappropriate her actions had been!

She had only agreed to send that message to secure the contract, but Ryder, completely unaware of the truth, must have been terrified for her safety!

"I'm sorry. I was wrong—terribly wrong!" Sarah apologized sincerely.

This response completely confused Ryder. After all, who was Sarah? A powerful company boss! A strong, independent woman who never backed down or admitted defeat! Let alone apologize to him, of all people.

So what did this apology mean? He must have done something to hurt Sarah, and now she felt guilty toward him too.

Ryder shot an even more vicious glare at Owen, who continued to moan on the floor.

"No! That's not it! Ryder, calm down!" Sarah exclaimed before explaining everything from beginning to end.

After her explanation, Sarah noticed Ryder's dark expression.

"You're... you're not really angry with me, are you?" she asked timidly. "I thought you'd be done with dinner, and this contract is really important to me."

"I..." Ryder didn't know whether to laugh or cry. So they were betting on his sincerity?

Donna, who had been listening, stood wide-eyed in disbelief.

Finally, she turned to Sarah with irritation, "You have no idea! If something actually happens with Saskia, Ryder will have an enormous emotional debt to deal with!"

"What do you mean?" Sarah asked, completely confused.

"There's no time to explain everything now!" Donna ignored Sarah's question and urgently prompted Ryder, "Let's hurry! Any later and I'm afraid it'll be too late! When I saw you rushing here, I thought something serious had happened and wanted to help. But now... we need to go!"

"Let's go!" Ryder agreed.

As he prepared to leave, Sarah grabbed his arm. "Ryder, what about me?"

"Don't do this again," he said firmly. "The boy who cried wolf can call once, maybe twice, but the third time... I might not make it to your side in time."

With that, Ryder gently removed her hand and hurried away with Donna. They had arrived in haste and departed just as quickly!

Sarah stood frozen in place, beautiful eyes glistening with tears.

She knew she had made a mistake, but Ryder's cold dismissal and abrupt departure left her feeling hurt.

And if she hadn't misheard... Saskia? Was Ryder actually concerned about his ex-girlfriend's safety?

After a moment of consideration, she made up her mind. She decided to follow them and see exactly what was going on.
