Chapter 626 I Killed Lester

"John?" Constantine's head jerked up in shock at the name.

"You mean John Clark, that son-in-law from the Jones family in Capital City years ago?"

Constantine's surprise was understandable. Back then, the most famous thing about the Jones family in Capital City was the story of their matrilocal marriage to John.

The Jones family matriarch was formidable—after divorcing, she took on a second husband and became the first female head of the Jones family in their history. Her boldness was legendary.

Ryder nodded, lowering his voice. "I am John's son. So Constantine, don't you think you've backed the wrong horse by trying to intimidate me with the Jones family? Even if I were a cast-off from the Jones family, who do you think my birth mother would believe—me or an outsider like you?"

Ryder revealed his true identity to Constantine now because he knew Constantine couldn't escape legal punishment. Since the matter was settled, letting Constantine die with the full knowledge seemed like a small mercy.

Constantine stared at Ryder in shock.

He had met John once before and the impression had been indelible. Looking closely, Ryder did indeed resemble John!

So this young man before him was John's son—more precisely, Ryder Jones of the Capital City Jones family!

"So that's it! That's what this is about!" Constantine exclaimed, his voice trailing into bitter laughter as his composure finally cracked.

How absurd! He had tried to intimidate Ryder with the Jones family name, which was completely useless—even comical.

Years ago, when the Jones family expelled John, he took his son Ryder to Houston. Though cast out, Ryder still carried Jones blood—he was still part of the Capital City Jones family!

Constantine realized the irony of trying to use the Jones family to pressure Ryder.

No wonder Trevor, the chairman of Aurora City Commercial Investment Bank, had led the charge to cooperate with Maple Group. Trevor had been John's right-hand man years ago—of course he would help Ryder!

This was the fundamental reason for Constantine's defeat.

Still, he refused to concede. "Ryder, you think you've won? No, you can't win! The Jones family will save me, while you're just garbage they threw away! They've already groomed new heirs—they don't need a reject like you anymore!"

"New heirs? What does that have to do with me? You still think the Jones family will help you? How laughable!" Ryder scoffed.

Just then, Constantine's private secretary came rushing in on high heels. She was attractive with a great figure, but so flustered she could barely walk straight. She stumbled and fell to the ground.

"You useless woman! Can't even walk properly?" Constantine snapped.

The secretary scrambled to her feet, not caring if her short skirt revealed too much, and delivered the urgent news: "It's—it's a message from the Jones family in Capital City. They've suddenly canceled their investment in Treasure Hunt App. They're withdrawing their shares and pulling out all their funds."

"Impossible!" Constantine roared, refusing to believe it. He viciously kicked his secretary, knocking her to the floor.

Ryder calmly added, "You should know that Anna and Barbara are good friends. This wedding was being livestreamed before the police arrived. Anna saw everything."

Constantine froze in realization.

Of course—Anna and Barbara were friends. After learning about this marriage scam, Anna naturally wouldn't forgive Constantine.

Without that investment, the Young family couldn't sustain Treasure Hunt App, let alone their other businesses.

This was the fatal blow.

Constantine was finished. The Young family was finished.

"The Jones family... how could you abandon the Young family?" Constantine slumped to the floor in defeat.

After a long moment, he suddenly spoke up, "Fine! I killed Lester! I killed him! He deserved it! The most successful thing I've ever done was killing Lester! I don't regret it!"

His voice grew louder with each word, echoing through the hall.

Since he couldn't defeat Ryder, Constantine simply gave up. In his final moments of freedom, he would have this one satisfaction.

"He confessed!" "Has Constantine gone mad?"

The guests were shocked. Getting Constantine to confess had seemed nearly impossible. But many wondered why he claimed no regrets.

"You monster! You killed my father! I should cut you into a thousand pieces!" Brent kicked Constantine hard, his rage uncontrollable until others pulled him back.

"Beat me to death if you want—I don't regret it. This was Lester's punishment. He killed my wife. He did." Constantine's voice cracked as tears streamed down his face.

Everyone was stunned. How could a calculating villain like Constantine show such emotion?

Ryder frowned. "What does your wife's death have to do with Lester?"

"Lester was my subordinate at work, but behind my back, he seduced my wife. When I discovered it, my wife wanted to divorce me and leave with him." Constantine's face was ashen as he continued, "Tell me, shouldn't such a subordinate be killed? If I didn't kill him, could I call myself a man?"

The guests' jaws dropped in shock. Constantine's wife had planned to run away with Lester?

"But what does this have to do with your wife's death?" Ryder asked, confused.

"I couldn't watch my wife leave with him, so I imprisoned her. I thought if she got pregnant and had my child, she'd forget about that bastard Lester. But I never calculated that she would die in childbirth. It was all Lester's fault!" Constantine spat.

"That's bullshit!" Brent couldn't bear hearing his father slandered. "My father was a man of integrity who only loved my mother!"

"Is that so?" Constantine laughed bitterly. "Then do you know why your mother chose to live separately from your father Lester after you were born?"

"I..." Brent fell silent, unable to counter. It was true—as far back as he could remember, his parents had lived apart.

Ryder pulled the confused Brent aside and addressed Constantine, "Your problems were your own. You can't blame others. Your mistake was resorting to murder."

The guests shuddered:

"Go to hell."

"How could someone be so deranged?"

"Thank goodness he was caught! Constantine's need for control is terrifying. He's completely insane!"

The police, now that Constantine had confessed, moved to take him away.

Constantine, stripped of his former vigor and completely defeated, just stood there—neither resisting nor cooperating. The officers had to lift him bodily and carry him out.

Finally, Constantine's drama was over.

Just as Ryder let out a sigh of relief, his phone rang.

He frowned. Who would be calling at a time like this? And from an unknown number?

A vague sense of foreboding came over him as he answered.

"Hello? Who is this?"

The voice on the other end was hoarse and hysterical: "Ryder, bet you didn't expect this! In the end, you still lose! Hahaha!"
