Chapter 600 From Now On, I'll Follow You!
Given Damon's serious face, there was at least a 50% chance he was not kidding!
Ryder and Ryan exchanged worried looks.
They thought this prank had gone way too far.
Right then, Damon burst out laughing. "You guys are too much! I can't believe I got you! Honestly, Ryder, I already knew you were John's biological son!"
"Ever since you took over as chairman of Maple Group in Aurora City, I've had people keeping an eye on you! I was just waiting for you to find some clues and come to me."
Kids these days, seriously!
So, pretending to be a dwarf to extort a billion dollars, then saying Samuel was beaten to death and his mom buried with him, was all just a ruse?
Ryder suddenly felt a deep sense of malice from Damon.
Ryan felt super awkward too.
Next, the three of them chatted calmly for a bit.
Turns out, Damon's father Samuel being beaten to death and his mom being buried with him was actually true.
And Damon's dad Samuel owed John a favor, so he helped John collect these ebony boxes.
Three years ago, Samuel found out where one of the ebony boxes was and went to the Young family's study to steal it.
He ended up witnessing Constantine killing Lester.
And that ebony box accidentally ended up with the Wallace family and later with the Young family.
The Young family went to great lengths to bring down the Wallace family and get the box.
So, Ryder's dad John was also collecting these ebony boxes!
What were these ebony boxes for?
And did the Young family know something about them?
Maybe the Wallace family being destroyed by the Young family wasn't as simple as it seemed?
So many questions.
But Ryder believed that time would reveal everything, he just needed to take it slow.
"Ryder, and Uncle Ryan, bye! Once I get things sorted out with the Crimson Beauty Club and Trace Investigation Agency, I'll come hang out with you guys!"
"Hang out with me?"
"Yeah, Ryder, the people around you are so strong and can fight well, so I'm going to stick with you from now on!"
Ryder patted Damon's little head. "Kids should do kid things. You need to go to school, understand?"
"My IQ is 230, that stuff isn't for me!"
How was Ryder supposed to respond to that?
After a goodbye, Ryder and Ryan left the Crimson Beauty Club.
It was already dark.
They took the subway back home.
Once they opened the door, a strong smell of alcohol hit them.
Ryan got anxious on the spot. "Did Barbara dig out the booze I hid under the bed again?"
"That's... hard to say." Ryder was suspicious.
But when Ryder and Ryan walked into the living room, they found only Rex sprawling out on the couch, his eyes closed and his face flushed.
Sensing someone approaching, he suddenly sat up from the couch.
Rex, with bleary eyes, saw it was Ryder and Uncle Ryan, mumbled a couple of words.
Then continued to lie down and sleep soundly, mumbling in his sleep, "Barbara, will you stop crying if I think?"
"Hic, this booze is awful!"
"I can't drink anymore, let Ryder and Uncle Ryan drink with you."
Ryder and Ryan exchanged glances.
Ryder helplessly held his forehead.
Great, Barbara ran off! And there's a good chance she went to find Tyler!
Just as Ryder was getting anxious, he received a call from Anthony.
"Ryder, what's going on with Barbara? She says she has amnesia and claims you imprisoned her. What's this all about?"
"Did Barbara go back to the Johnson family?"
On the other end, Anthony replied, "Yeah, she's back!"
Ryder felt a mix of relief and frustration with Barbara twisting the truth.
He then filled Anthony in on what had been going on with Barbara over the past few days.
Anthony was taken aback. "So that's the story! She really needs to stay away from someone like Tyler."
"Yeah, please keep an eye on her, Anthony."
"I got it, Ryder. Your company's GoldenEagle product just launched and is going head-to-head with the Young family! But don't worry, I fully support you and Sarah! I believe you guys will do great things in Aurora City!"
Ryder didn't quite know how to respond to that.
Plus, he always had this nagging feeling that something was off about Anthony, but he couldn't put his finger on it.
Sensing Ryder was still on the line, Anthony brought up another topic. "Ryder, do you remember Abigail?"
"Abigail?" Ryder was curious why she was being mentioned now.
"Yeah! Abigail's been pretty wild, and now she's pregnant! The Weaver family even came over to propose! They offered a hefty bride price of 80 million dollars! I'm just not sure if I should agree to this marriage, so I wanted to get your take."
Ryder could read between the lines.
Anthony valued family interests above all. Now that he had placed all his bets on Ryder, Ryder had a say in any alliances the Johnson family formed with other families.
"I don't mind; it mainly depends on what Abigail wants."
"Abigail is someone who despises the poor and loves the rich! Now that she has a chance to marry into the Weaver family, of course, she's eager to go! Honestly, it's a disgrace to the Johnson family!"
"But since you have no objections, I'll accept the Weaver family's bride price and marry Abigail off! The wedding will probably be soon, before Abigail's belly shows, to avoid gossip! I hope you can come and celebrate with us!"
"Of course," Ryder agreed.
They chatted about a few other things, and then happily ended the call.
But after hanging up, Ryder frowned deeply.
Ryan, who had overheard the conversation, also frowned. "What is Anthony up to? From what he said, it seems he really wants to marry Abigail into the Weaver family!"
Ryder was noncommittal. "It's understandable! The Weaver family is a top-tier family in Aurora City!"
"That's true!"
Meanwhile, at the Johnson family villa.
After finishing the call with Ryder, Anthony announced in front of the Johnson family that he had accepted the Weaver family's bride price and agreed to marry Abigail into the Weaver family!
For a moment, everyone in the Johnson family was doting on Abigail.
Even the chef made special nutritious meals for her.
This was definitely Abigail's happiest moment, at least she thought so.
But her aunt Sandra was not in a good mood.
Previously, Sandra was the princess of the Johnson family, and with her strong social skills, she lived a very happy life!
If it weren't for Ryder, she wouldn't have fallen into such an awkward situation!
Now, with Anthony in power, everyone in the Johnson family was required to please Ryder!
Moreover, her daughter Barbara liked Ryder.
However, Barbara's amnesia was actually a good opportunity!
So Sandra started to badmouth Ryder to Barbara.
"So Barbara, after all I've told you, do you understand what I mean? Our only way out now is for you to marry Tyler!"
"But..." Barbara bit her lip, hesitating.
Sandra held Barbara's hand and continued earnestly, "Barbara, I'm begging you! I've met Tyler before; he's a good person! I don't want you to be deceived by a playboy like Ryder and ruin your marriage!"
