Chapter 538 Did Something Happen to Donna?
Turns out, the love potion was laced with a heavy dose of nerve-numbing powder!
It would overstimulate the brain, making users feel like they were in a trance—swaying their heads slightly even without music, leaving them exhausted and drowsy. In extreme cases, it could even cause violent neck spasms!
Ryder's heart dropped at Clara's words. "Is there any hope for him?"
"He didn't take a lot, but his body's already been wrecked by all those hormone changes. It's a mess. Now, on top of that, he's inhaled some nerve-paralyzing poison," Clara said, sighing again. "Mild cases? Mental breakdowns. Severe cases? He doesn't last more than three years."
But either way, it's unacceptable.
"Is there really nothing else we can do?"
Clara shook her head. "Right now, no. But Ryder, the world's a big place. Once you step out into it, you might just find a way to save your friend."
Ryder forced a smile. "I hope so."
"Alright, don't overthink it. It's late. The club's got plenty of rooms; I'll set you up for the night." Clara gave Ryder's shoulder a reassuring pat. "Ryder, remember, some things are out of your control. Once you get that, you'll feel lighter."
"Alright, thanks, Clara."
Ryder, Rex, and Donna ended up crashing at the Breeze Club for the night.
Meanwhile, at the hospital.
After the doc's diagnosis, it was clear—Tyler's arm was toast.
The bones inside were crushed!
"Ryder, I'm gonna fucking kill you! I'll burn Maple Group to the ground!" Tyler screamed from his hospital bed, fuming.
"Alright, everyone out!" Constantine shooed the doctors and nurses out before turning to Tyler. "What the hell were you thinking? You've totally embarrassed the Young family!"
Tyler's voice cracked with frustration at his father's scolding. "Dad, I can't stand him! That Ryder—who the hell does he think he is? I didn't even mess with him, and he storms in, claiming he's there to save someone? Like, come on, how convenient is that? I bet that intern reporter at the press conference was their damn plant!"
"Stop making excuses for your screw-ups!" Constantine's face hardened. "Think about what you've been doing all this time! Chasing some girl to Houston, only to come back with your tail between your legs. Bidding on the Rigal Distric Stadium, and getting totally played. And now? You're lying here with a busted arm!"
The more he talked, the more his frustration boiled over. "Tyler, with the way you're acting, how the hell am I supposed to hand you the Young Group?"
Tyler's heart sank!
His mind went blank!
So, he, the sole heir of the Young family, was going to be abandoned?
No!
This cannot happen!
Tyler quickly pleaded, "Dad, I'm sorry, I'm the shame of the Young family! But please, give me one more chance. I promise to make the Rigal Distric Stadium the top property in Aurora City."
"No need!" Constantine interrupted Tyler. "For now, just focus on recovering!"
What?
Tyler was stunned!
He then rolled off the bed and knelt before Constantine. "Dad, please give me one last chance! I swear, if I don't teach Ryder a lesson this time, I'll jump into the river myself!"
His voice cracked, raw with desperation!
Finally, tears and snot streaming down his face, and Tyler choked out, "Dad, for Mom's sake, don't give up on me!"
Sure enough, Constantine's eyes flickered at the mention of Tyler's late mother.
He let out a heavy sigh. "Get back in bed. For now, think long and hard about what sets you apart from Ryder before you try to take him on again."
"Yes, thank you, Dad! I'll go over every mistake I made!"
"Think hard." With that, Constantine turned and walked out.
Tyler struggled to get up from the floor and lay back on the bed.
He closed his eyes.
All he could see in his mind was Ryder's smug face!
'Screw Ryder,' he fumed, 'almost costing me Dad's trust and the Young fortune. Fine—don't blame me when I rip you to shreds, piece by piece!'
The next day, in a private room at the Breeze Club!
Ryder, jolted awake from a sweet dream by his ringing phone, answered Sarah's video call.
She looked stunning, her makeup flawless, but her expression was icy.
"Ryder, where are you? Did you change the sheets?" she demanded, her voice sharp. "Share your location with me. Now."
The call ended abruptly.
Soon, Sarah sent a location-sharing link!
Ryder was a bit confused by Sarah's series of actions.
Without thinking much, he opened the location-sharing link.
The screen shifted, pulling up a map with two pins: one in Houston, the other in New York City.
Wait a minute!
Breeze Club!!!
Ryder's eyes widened in disbelief as he looked at his phone screen!
It's over, it's really over this time!
Seeing Sarah exit the location sharing first, he followed suit.
Ryder quickly called Sarah back on video.
Rejected!
Rejected!
He called ten times in a row, all were hung up.
He kept calling!
This time, it directly went to voicemail!
With each hang-up, Sarah's anger grew.
Finally, she directly blocked Ryder!
Of course, she was angry!
Last night, Emily had dropped the bomb that Ryder tipped some female streamer a million bucks—and then he hung up on her when she called!
All night, she tried to convince herself, Ryder's not that kind of guy.
But all night, she reminded herself, love doesn't last forever. A woman's gotta stand on her own.
So, Sarah waited until 7:30 AM, slapped on enough makeup to hide the bags under her eyes, and video-called Ryder like nothing was wrong.
And he was at the Breeze Club!!!
After that, Sarah composed herself, suppressing her anger and disappointment, and went to the company.
At the SR Group "meeting," Sarah's expression was stern, and she was more decisive in her actions!
The employees under her were all terrified.
After the meeting, Emily followed Sarah to the CEO's office.
Recalling last night's incident, Emily knew why Sarah was acting off.
She tried to comfort her, but Sarah cut her off. "Grab the files—we're catching the train to New York this afternoon."
"Wait, what? I thought our flight was day after tomorrow," Emily said, confused.
Sarah sighed. "Some things can't wait."
Her eyes burned with disappointment—Ryder had really let her down.
