Chapter 512 A Favor!
Houston.
The Johnson family's villa, the council hall.
The core members of the Johnson family, Anthony, Andy, Matthew, and Sandra, were sitting here discussing matters.
According to the rules, Abigail should have been present as well!
But ever since the incident where Lawrence killed Heather, Abigail hadn't returned to the Johnson family for some time!
No one knew what he was busy with outside!
Anthony looked at the other three, his expression calm as he asked, "How's it going with the stuff I handed you?"
Matthew jumped in, all business, "Dad, we're almost there. All the family assets are transferred and auctioned off. The crew willing to move to NYC with us is locked in, and the ones who aren't down got their severance checks."
Andy followed with his report, "We've talked to our Houston partners, but none of 'em are down to roll with us once we hit NYC. They're all cozying up to SR Group. We're basically starting from zero there. Honestly, I don't get why we're ditching everything here."
Anthony ignored Andy's grumbling complaints!
He turned his gaze to Sandra, "What about you?"
Sandra replied, "I've been in touch with the Youngs. Tyler's still hung up on Annie, and they're willing to give us another shot. Once we're in NYC, the marriage deal's back on the table, but..."
At this point, Sandra suddenly paused!
"But what?"
Sandra hesitated, then said, "The Youngs made it clear—the last engagement screwed Tyler over and embarrassed them in NYC's elite circles. So, if Annie marries Tyler now, she'll only be his sidepiece. And the support they promised us is getting slashed in half."
Andy's face shifted, "Wait, if she's marrying him, how's that making her his side chick?"
Matthew cleared his throat and said, "This is how things go in those old-money New York families. The big shots have their wives, sure, but they'll also keep a mistress on the side. They don't trust outsiders to run the empire—it's all about bloodline. The more heirs, the better. But that's why you've got endless power struggles in those families. It's a mess."
Andy pouted, "That's true, but if the mistress thing gets out, we will be the punchline of every joke in town."
Matthew sighed, "Let's be real—do we even have any dignity left in front of the Youngs in NYC? We've already taken enough hits just here in Houston."
Hearing this, Andy clenched his fists in frustration!
He cursed Ryder in his heart for all of this.
If it weren't for him, how could the Johnson family have fallen to this state?
At this moment, Anthony said calmly, "The marriage alliance can be put on hold for now. Kids should figure that out on their own. As for our move to NYC, don't sweat it. I've got it covered!"
The three looked at Anthony, tacitly not asking more questions.
Lately, they'd sensed he was cooking up something big—something mysterious—and while they didn't know the specifics, they had this gut feeling: when he finally laid it all out, it was going to blow their minds!
At this moment, Sandra suddenly remembered something and asked, "Dad, should we inform Sarah about our move from Houston?"
Anthony nodded, "Of course, I'll talk to her myself. You don't need to worry about this! Go on with your tasks!"
The three nodded and left the council hall!
Anthony stood up, leaned on his cane, and walked to the window.
He looked at a tree in the yard outside, his eyes flickering, lost in thought.
Evening.
The Pint House.
In a small, luxurious private room.
Two people were sitting across from each other, eating. They were Anthony and Sarah!
Sarah had received a sudden call from Anthony at noon, saying he wanted to have dinner with her alone tonight to discuss something.
Although Sarah didn't know what it was about, she agreed, thinking she had been too busy lately to have a meal with Anthony!
"Grandpa, have some of this!" Sarah placed a steak in front of Anthony!
For once, Anthony's face lit up with a smile he never showed the rest of the family.
He grinned, "Good girl! Sarah, you better eat up too. I know you're under a ton of pressure at work, probably skipping meals. That's no way to live. Health comes first—you're my favorite, after all. Andy and Abigail? They're a lost cause."
These words warmed Sarah's heart.
Once upon a time, getting a caring word from someone in the Johnson family was so difficult.
At this moment, Anthony's favoritism and care made Sarah deeply satisfied with her current life!
Warmth, and peace!
Sarah took a sip of her drink and asked, "Grandpa, what did you want to talk about tonight?"
Anthony gave her a knowing smile. "Even if I don't spill it, I'm sure your Houston contacts already filled you in. I'm moving the family—and the business—to NYC tomorrow. Houston's just bad vibes for me now. I can't catch a break here—nothing but nightmares. Time for a fresh start, a new scene."
Sarah worriedly said, "Grandpa, moving the whole Johnson clan to NYC—where we don't have any connections—is gonna be a mess. You're not exactly spring chicken, you know. This is a lot to take on."
Anthony let out a heavy sigh, "I get it, but I can't just sit back and let the family crumble on my watch. We'll figure it out, step by step."
Hearing this, Sarah felt a pang of sadness.
Seeing Anthony, well past seventy, still grinding like this, she couldn't help but feel it was the family's fault for not stepping up.
So she leaned in and said, "Grandpa, if you're ever in a tight spot, just say the word. I've got your back. The business you built for this family is the reason I'm where I am today."
Anthony's face flushed red at her words.
He awkwardly said, "Since you put it that way, I do have a favor to ask, but I'm really embarrassed to say it!"
Sarah earnestly said, "Grandpa, just say it!"
"Alright then, I'll say it. Actually, it's like this..."
