Chapter 575 Car Thief?
Inside the villa.
Ryder, Rex, and Barbara watched Karen and Kyle leave through the floor-to-ceiling windows.
Barbara pouted, "Finally got rid of them. I don't know where they got the nerve to ask you for respect! And to say that I'm in that kind of relationship with you? Ridiculous!"
"Absolutely ridiculous!" Ryder nodded.
Barbara snorted, "But Karen did say one thing right: no man is any good! So, Ryder, if you ever cheat, I'll definitely take Sarah away!"
"That's never gonna happen!" Ryder chuckled bitterly.
What was Barbara thinking?
Barbara looked at Ryder teasingly, raising an eyebrow. "But I just heard Karen say that you were getting cozy with a female influencer yesterday?"
Ryder's mouth twitched, "That influencer is named Donna, my college roommate."
"WHAT?"
Barbara's eyes widened. "Co-ed dorms?"
Ryder rubbed his forehead.
Then he explained, "No, Donna is a guy, but he's transitioned into a woman. I can introduce you two sometime."
Barbara said, "Oh, sure. I've never met a real transgender person in real life!"
At that moment, Rex chimed in, "Ryder! It's been three minutes, why haven't Kyle and the others come back to find me?"
Ryder looked at Rex in confusion. "Why would they come back to find you?"
"I just remembered, the car is parked there, and Kyle's BMW can't get out unless I move my car first."
Rex continued to speculate, "And I think I heard an engine start just now. Ryder, do you think Kyle might have driven off with our Porsche? The thing is, I was in such a hurry that I didn't roll up the driver's side window, and the keys are still in the car!"
Ryder wasn't sure. "I don't think so?"
Barbara stuck out her tongue. "They wouldn't go that far, would they?"
Rex slapped his forehead.
The next second, he dashed outside like an arrow.
Half a minute later, Rex returned.
He looked furious. "Ryder, they really drove off with our Porsche!"
"Ryder, I'm so mad! I want to smash their crappy BMW!"
Ryder patted Rex's shoulder. "Better not, you might hurt yourself!"
"But it's so infuriating! How can there be such shameless people in this world!"
Rex was so angry he started cursing.
This was the first time Ryder had seen Rex this angry.
It was understandable, though. That Porsche was the first car Ryder had gotten for Rex when they were in Houston.
Originally, Ryder had planned to get Rex a better car in Aurora City, but Rex had grown attached to the Porsche and insisted on driving it from Houston to Aurora City.
Now that the car was gone, it was no wonder he was furious!
"So what do we do? Should we go get the car back now?" Ryder asked for Rex's opinion.
Rex turned his head sharply, saying arrogantly, "I don't care anymore. I don't want a car that's been driven by shameless people!"
Actually, Rex did want the car back.
But Karen and Kyle were Sarah's biological mother and brother. If Ryder had to deal with them because of him, Rex would be the bad guy!
Sure enough, Ryder's phone started ringing with a video call, from Sarah.
Ryder patted Rex's shoulder. "Don't worry, I won't let you suffer because of this!"
Then Ryder answered the video call.
Sarah's voice came through, "Ryder, did Karen and Kyle come to see you? How could you be so foolish and give them a Porsche? You know what kind of people they are; you can't spoil them!
"Let me tell you, I know Karen and Kyle's character. If you give them a Porsche now, they'll come back asking for a Ferrari and a luxury villa, claiming it's their right because they gave birth to me!"
Ryder was stunned.
Seeing Ryder not responding, Sarah emphasized again, "Hey, did you hear what I said? Don't do it again! Even if you have money, you can't spend it like this! Got it?"
"Got it." Ryder nodded.
Barbara also leaned into the frame. "Sarah, it's not like that! Ryder didn't give them the car; they took it themselves."
"But Kyle messaged me saying..."
"You know Kyle! Can you believe anything he says? We should call the police and have them arrested!" Barbara said angrily.
On the other end of the video call, Sarah didn't look too happy either.
"Forget about calling the police. Ryder, you and Rex should go get the car back! If they don't give it back, then call the police!"
"Alright, I just wanted to let you know. We'll talk more tonight. I'm a bit busy at work right now, so I'll hang up."
The video call ended.
Rex didn't want to go to the Moore family to get the car back.
Initially, he had arrogantly said he didn't want to drive a car that others had driven.
Ryder pressed him further.
Rex finally explained, "Ryder, it's not that. If we really send them to the police, Sarah will definitely have a grudge against you!"
"Sarah and they are blood relatives, and that bond can never be severed! I don't want you to be caught in the middle!"
For some reason, hearing Rex say that made Ryder feel a sense of warmth flow through his heart.
Having a friend who considered your feelings so deeply was really good.
"Alright, we can do without the car!"
Ryder agreed with Rex.
Then he took out a car key from his pocket and solemnly handed it to Rex. "Rex, the road ahead is tough, and I hope you'll always be there as my good friend!"
"This car key was given to me by Scott. He said it was my dad's favorite car when he was alive. I'm giving it to you now! After lunch, we'll go to the New York City Auto Center to pick up the car!"
Rex held the car key tightly in his hand.
He nodded. "Don't worry, Ryder. I'll take good care of this car. If anyone dares to covet it, I'll fight them!"
"No, the car is just an object, but people are alive! If you ever face real trouble, your life comes first! Got it?"
Ryder knew Rex was stubborn, so he felt it necessary to emphasize this point.
Rex scratched his head sheepishly. "Got it!"
On the other side, the car thieves Karen and Kyle drove the car to the Moore family villa.
"Kyle, that was a brilliant move!"
Before getting out of the car, Karen gave Kyle a thumbs up. "Telling Sarah that the car was a gift, Ryder and the others won't dare to ask for it back! And when we get to the Moore family, we'll have so much respect!"
Karen's eyes sparkled.
Having been in Aurora City for so long and seeing Kyle's patience and transformation made her feel hopeful again.
