Chapter 392 I'm Not Giving The Money
The next day, Sarah hit the road early, heading to the office!
She barely said a word to Ryder over breakfast, totally zoned out!
'Must've been 'cause Ryan barged in last night, making things all awkward! It is all Ryan's fault!'
Ryder had this whole plan to make Ryan pay for last night, but guess what? Ryan bailed in the middle of the night, saying he took the $5000 Ryder gave him to go have a blast!
Ryder was left speechless, thinking at this rate, Ryan's gonna end up in some serious trouble with a woman!
Barbara decided to skip work today.
She told Ryder he had to tag along with her to buy some Japanese-style clothes in the morning, one of the three things he promised her!
Ryder couldn't say no; she'd totally spill the beans about that "incident" to Sarah!
Feeling totally cornered, Ryder was filled with a sense of helplessness!
So, right after breakfast, Ryder went shopping with Barbara!
On the way, Ryder got a news pop-up on his phone.
[Radiant Revive Spa in Houston has been busted for large-scale gambling and shut down. The owner is under investigation.]
Ryder checked out the comments.
[What? Radiant Revive Spa involved in gambling? I've been there a bunch and never heard about it!]
[You must be out of the loop. Anyone with connections knows. There were reports before, but they went nowhere!]
[The owner of Radiant Revive Spa is Mark, a big shot in Houston. How could it get shut down so easily?]
[I heard Mark himself called the cops and confessed, basically turning himself in!]
[Damn! Radiant Revive Spa is a cash cow. Why would Mark do that? Is he nuts?]
[Rumor has it he pissed off some big shot and had no choice. If even Mark can't handle it, that must be one powerful figure!]
Ryder stared at the scenery whizzing by, feeling kinda mixed up!
'Cause Mark, as an enemy, was the most mysterious and charismatic opponent he'd ever faced!
Unlike those dumb and arrogant guys like Andy and Joseph, or the shady rule-breakers like Sandra and Kenneth, Mark always kept his word.
Easy to say, hard to do!
Even though the shutdown of Radiant Revive Spa was a big hit to Mark, Ryder had a gut feeling that Mark's next move would be even stronger!
Maybe, the next move would be the final showdown.
"Hey, what’s on your mind?" Barbara cut into Ryder's thoughts.
Ryder turned to her and gave a faint smile. "Nothing!"
Barbara smirked and said in a teasing tone, "From what I see, you're definitely thinking about some other woman besides Sarah. Like that perfume you brought home last night. Bet it's from a woman you like, huh?"
Ryder's heart skipped a beat!
He didn't expect Barbara to nail it so perfectly!
Though shocked, Ryder kept his cool. "Silence doesn't mean I got nothing to say. Instead of daydreaming, let's figure out what clothes we're getting. Don't wait till the last minute. Anyway, as per our deal, I'm only with you till the noon; after that, I got other stuff to handle!"
Upon hearing this, Barbara shot Ryder a glare and muttered, "Hmph! Stingy, who wants your company anyway!"
Meanwhile, Heather plopped down heavily on the armchair, staring blankly at the news about Radiant Revive Spa on TV.
"How could this happen?" Heather murmured.
They had planned to use Mark to take out Ryder, especially after hearing that Ryder went to Radiant Revive Spa last night. They were sure Ryder wouldn't make it out alive!
But surprise, surprise, Ryder not only walked out unscathed but also brought down Mark's Radiant Revive Spa!
With this blow, the Davis family took a huge hit, while Ryder was on the rise!
If Ryder dealt with the Davis family, he'd turn his sights on the Johnson family next!
Given the Johnson family's current fragile state, they stood no chance against Ryder.
Because of this, Heather was in a really low mood, even feeling a faint pain in her chest. It seemed like her heart condition was about to flare up.
Seeing this, Lawrence quickly grabbed a fast-acting heart pill from the drawer and handed it to Heather, "Mom! Are you okay?"
Heather took the pill, exhaled deeply, rubbed her head, and said weakly, "You go out, let me rest for a while."
Lawrence nodded and walked out of the room.
As soon as he stepped out, he ran into Sandra!
Lawrence stopped Sandra and whispered, "Sandra, if it's not urgent, don't go in. Mom's resting!"
Sandra said, "It's nothing urgent anyway!"
Then Lawrence lowered his voice and said to Sandra, "Sandra, I've noticed that Mom's health has been going downhill lately. Her 70th birthday is coming up in just over a week. I'm worried..."
Upon hearing this, Sandra frowned and scolded in a low voice, "Don't talk nonsense! Mom's fine!"
Lawrence felt awkward being scolded, but he kept his cool and nodded.
Sandra continued, "You just focus on making sure Mom's 70th birthday goes off without a hitch. Don't worry about anything else. I have some other things to attend to, so I'm out!"
After saying that, Sandra strutted away in her high heels!
Watching Sandra's retreating figure, Lawrence sneered. "That bitch, relying on a little money and Mom's support, bossing everyone around, yet she hasn't dealt with Ryder! It's really annoying! Anyway, in my opinion, Mom doesn't have much time left. Once she's gone, I'll be the only male in the Johnson family, and the whole Johnson family should be mine. Let's see how you struggle then!"
Sandra walked to the old house and found no one around.
Then she took out her phone and found that unfamiliar number!
Her expression turned icy!
It was the owner of this number who claimed to have evidence of her killing Kenneth and was blackmailing her for ten million dollars!
This whole thing kept her up all night, driving her to the brink of collapse!
She was terrified of Mark finding out and facing his wrath!
Luckily, Mark's Radiant Revive Spa collapsed, meaning he had no power to cause trouble!
'So what is there to fear? Go ahead and report to Mark!'
She then texted the other party: [I won't give you ten million dollars! If you kneel and beg, I might consider sparing you a few cents! Haha!]
