Chapter 291 Not Worthy of Being Born by Me!
At 9 PM in Houston, at Platan Height Villa No. 1, Ryder's voice echoed from the bedroom, "No! Be gentle! Don't touch there!"
Sarah's voice followed, "Stay still, or I'll be rough!"
"Can you be gentler? I can't take it!"
"Close your eyes and shut up!"
Sarah was applying medicine to Ryder. He lay on the bed in just his shorts, exposing his gunshot wound on his waist and an arrow wound on his thigh. Though not fatal, Sarah thought they were serious.
Ryder kept saying he'd be fine, but Sarah insisted on checking. She accidentally touched the bandage, making the wound bleed, so she had to re-bandage it. With no nursing experience, she was clumsy, either using too much alcohol or wrapping the bandage too tight, causing Ryder a lot of pain. He even suspected she was doing it on purpose to punish him for keeping secrets and making her worry.
A few minutes later, Sarah wiped her forehead and smiled. "Done!"
Ryder forced a smile. "Darling, it's so good to have you!"
Sarah squinted, "Since you like it, how about I bandage you again?"
Ryder quickly got up, dressed, and said, "That's enough! Let's have dinner!"
Sarah smirked and didn't push further. They went downstairs to the dining room, where the table was filled with delicious food, all made by Rex. Rex could fight, drive, and cook—an all-around genius, though a bit dull.
The three of them sat down to eat. Rex had learned about the past three days from Ryder and felt guilty for not being there to prevent the kidnapping. Ryder reassured him, saying it was unexpected and that the outcome was good. They now had the Johnson family's plans and criminal evidence, which would have been hard to get otherwise.
While eating, the TV was on, broadcasting the Houston evening news, covering the morning's press conference. The news detailed the online situation before the meeting, key events during it, the Johnson family's and Phoenix Group's crimes, and netizens' reactions.
The news sparked a lot of reflection and discussion, leading most people to blame the Johnson family. Maple Real Estate and SR Group were seen as the real victims. It was clear that Phoenix Real Estate and the Johnson family would face huge negative backlash and significant losses.
Ryder noticed that his identity as the president of Maple Real Estate wasn't mentioned, and his face was rarely shown. It seemed like they were deliberately downplaying his presence to reduce his influence. Ryder guessed Scott didn't want him to be too exposed, as it could attract powerful enemies. Scott also suppressed discussions about Ryder's identity on social media, so people would eventually forget about him and only remember the key points of the press conference.
After the news, Sarah sighed in relief. The past few days had been mentally exhausting for her, too. With SR Group's business back to normal and even improving, she felt completely relieved. Suddenly, she turned to Ryder and asked, "Where did you get the video of Sandra and Roy in the office? Did you install surveillance in Roy's office?"
Ryder smiled. "No, I couldn't do that. Phoenix Real Estate and Maple Real Estate have always been competitors, and they've used unfair tactics before. So, we hired a skilled hacker who hacked into Roy's computer and caught the video by chance."
Sarah nodded, then widened her eyes. "Then why did you install surveillance in my office? Don't you trust me, or were you planning something shady?"
Ryder fell silent.
Meanwhile, on the 108th floor of the capital city's tallest building, a level most people could never reach, a voluptuous and sexy middle-aged woman held a glass of red wine, looking indifferently at the traffic below. This was the Jones family's property, one of the top families in the capital city. To them, the wealthy and powerful in the secular world were like ants.
Someone respectfully reported something to her. After the report, Emma swirled her wine and snorted, "No matter how much he struggles, he's just a useless waste. He will never be worthy of my attention, not even worth being born by me." With that, she downed her glass of red wine.
