Chapter 292 You Go Marry His Son!
Three days later, at Houston Private Hospital.
Barbara sat on her bed, staring out the window, lost in thought.
The door opened, and Sandra walked in. Barbara's face showed a mix of emotions. "Why are you here?"
"Can't a mother visit her daughter?" Sandra replied, taking off her sunglasses and mask.
Even after three days, the video of Sandra and Roy in the office was still trending online. People were still sharing it in chat groups and on social media. Because of this, Sandra had to cover up whenever she went out to avoid perverts making obscene comments.
Sandra sat by Barbara's bed and asked, "Why haven't you contacted me?"
Barbara kept looking out the window. "You're so busy. What difference would it make?"
Sandra frowned. "Is that how you talk to me?"
Barbara turned to her. "Ever since we went abroad, you never cared about my feelings. When I needed you most, where were you? Did anything change when I reached out during those tough times?"
Sandra stayed silent, her face stern.
Barbara laughed bitterly. "You should've known about my accident three days ago. But this is your first visit, and you didn't even ask how I am. Instead, you questioned me! Stop pretending to care. It's pointless."
Sandra's pride took a hit. She scolded Barbara, "Do you have any conscience? Without me, you'd be starving on the streets!"
Barbara laughed bitterly. "I'd rather starve than live that dark, dirty life with you! Just thinking about the past makes me sick."
"Shut up!" Sandra enraged, slapped Barbara hard across the face, leaving a red handprint.
Sandra glared at her. "Who brainwashed you? Was it that loser, Ryder?"
Barbara held her cheek, refusing to answer.
Sandra, even more furious, cursed, "I knew it was Ryder! I won't let him off! Annie, we value quality and morals. Don't associate with someone like Ryder! Don't let his poverty-stricken mindset influence you!"
Barbara sneered. "Quality and morals? All I saw was violence, selfishness, and perversion! I hate that place! And about Ryder, I saw he's the president of Maple Real Estate, a company worth nearly a billion dollars. If he's poor, then there aren't many rich people around!"
"You!" Sandra was so mad she could grind her teeth.
She couldn't get it. Not long ago, Barbara wanted to crush Ryder just like she did. How did she change so fast?
Their relationship was never great, but Barbara had never resisted her like this before.
It had to be Ryder's doing! First, he messed with her business, and now he was turning Barbara against her.
Sandra thought, 'Ryder is despicable and shameless! He should get hit by a car and die!'
After cursing Ryder in her mind, Sandra tried to calm down and persuade Barbara. "Annie, I know I wasn't always there for you, but I had no choice. In this world, it's eat or be eaten. You have to let go of naive thoughts."
Barbara looked at her. "Just get to the point."
"What do you mean?"
Barbara laughed bitterly. "Every time we argue, if you back down first, it means you need something from me. This time is no different."
Sandra was taken aback, her face turning a bit ugly. Barbara had hit the nail on the head.
After a moment, Sandra's expression turned serious. "Fine, I'll be honest. I have a friend in the state capital with a 27-year-old son. I sent him your photo and info, and their family is very interested. They want to arrange a marriage, and I agreed."
Barbara looked surprised, then asked, "Their family must be very wealthy, right?"
Sandra nodded. "Yes, much wealthier than Roy, who is just an empty shell."
Thinking of Roy made Sandra even angrier. She had thought he would be useful, but he was only interested in her body and never succeeded in anything serious. Three days ago, it was revealed that Roy had embezzled a lot of money from Phoenix Real Estate and fled. Now, Phoenix Real Estate was in a precarious situation, and the group's headquarters' efforts over the years had gone up in smoke. The Phoenix Group's top management was surely furious, and with Roy on the run, much of their anger would be directed at Sandra and the Johnson family. This was really tough.
Barbara shook her head. "I won't marry your friend's son."
"Why not?"
"Because I don't want to get married, especially not to someone I don't know and won't like."
Sandra's face turned ugly. "This is for me and the Johnson family! You have to agree whether you want to or not! Marriage is just a partnership. If the benefits outweigh the risks, it's worth it!"
Barbara, with red eyes, said, "I already said I won't get married! If you're so eager, why don't you marry him yourself? After all, training men is what you're best at, isn't it?"
Sandra was furious. "You brat! I'll skin you alive!"
With that, she was about to slap Barbara again.
