Chapter 39 Exchange
The Johnson family's old house
Grandpa Johnson sat in a chair and asked, "What did you say? Andy has been arrested?"
Matthew, standing across from him, had a mournful expression. "Yes, just a moment ago, he was captured by Sam from the Smith Group."
"Why would this happen?" Grandpa Johnson couldn't believe it. "How did Andy provoke Sam?"
"I don't know, I just received a call from Andy saying that he was captured by Sam. He asked us to rescue him as soon as possible. Dad, you have to think of a way! He's your favorite grandson!"
"Don't panic, I'll think of a way! I'll think of a way!" Grandpa Johnson muttered.
His trembling hands showed just how panicked he was.
After all, the Smith Group was ten times more powerful than the Johnson family. They couldn't afford to provoke them!
Matthew's phone rang. It was Andy calling.
Matthew quickly answered, "Andy! Are you okay? What happened?"
But the voice on the other end was someone else's. "It's Sam! Your son Andy is in my hands!"
Matthew's expression changed slightly, and he lowered his voice. "Mr. Smith, is there a misunderstanding here?"
"A misunderstanding!" Sam twitched the corner of his mouth and said coldly, "That bastard from your family brought people to attack me! If it wasn't for my other bodyguards arriving in time, I would have been beaten to death!"
Sam was furious about it. Being the future successor of the Smith Group, he was beaten up by several unknown second-generation rich kids in public.
There were countless onlookers, and it was extremely embarrassing. This was an unbearable humiliation!
After his other bodyguards arrived to help, he immediately gave Andy and his brothers a good beating.
Not only that, Andy, who showed no remorse, was taken away.
As for Matthew, when he heard that his son had beaten up Sam, his initial reaction was disbelief!
He was well aware that his son Andy was usually arrogant and domineering, but he wasn't foolish enough to provoke Sam.
At that moment, a sobbing voice came from the phone. "Dad! Please help me! I don't want to stay here for another minute! They’ll kill me!"
Upon hearing this voice, Grandpa Johnson couldn't sit still and comforted, "Andy! Don't be afraid, Grandpa will find a way to save you!"
Then, in a humble tone, he pleaded with Sam, "Mr. Smith! Could you please show some mercy and spare Andy this time? The Johnson family will be eternally grateful!"
But Sam didn't give any face. "Old man, who do you think you are? Does my status require me to care about the gratitude of clowns like you? Disgusting!"
Sam's words hit Grandpa Johnson hard!
His face turned pale and then flushed. Someone of his age, respect and dignity was paramount!
Yet, a young man was mocking him like this.
But for the sake of his beloved grandson, Grandpa Johnson could only force a smile and say, "Mr. Smith, it's my oversight. Andy was wrong. We can offer compensation! How about it?"
Sam sneered, "Compensation is acceptable. One million dollars! No negotiations!"
Grandpa Johnson and Matthew's faces turned pale.
The total assets of the Johnson family were only around a hundred million dollars, which included a large amount of fixed assets. The cash flow on the books was only around six to seven hundred thousand dollars. Where would they get millions from?
With a bitter expression, Grandpa Johnson said, "Mr. Smith, that's too much. Can't we..."
"Fuck! Do you think we're bargaining at a market? I said no negotiations!"
Sam cursed in dissatisfaction and then suddenly came up with an idea, sneering, "Actually, if you can't come up with the money, there's another option."
"What option?" Grandpa Johnson asked. He felt relieved that Sam chose to throw him a lifeline.
"Exchange Andy for someone else!"
"Who?"
"Sarah!"
Grandpa Johnson and Matthew exchanged a glance and immediately understood.
During last month's gathering, Karen mentioned that Sam had sent gifts to Sarah.
He must have an interest in Sarah!
"Let me! The purpose of proposing this exchange at this moment is self-evident!" Sam added, "Please rest assured, I won't harm Sarah by using her. I'm simply fostering friendship!"
Without hesitation, Grandpa Johnson agreed immediately. "Mr. Smith, I promise! I'll take care of it!"
Matthew quickly chimed in, "As long as you're happy, you can do whatever you want!"
Satisfied, Sam hummed, "That's more like it! But let me remind you, you have only one hour. If you do not fulfill your promise, your precious grandson will lose a finger! We'll exchange addresses in a while."
After speaking, Sam hung up the phone.
With a stern face, Grandpa Johnson told Matthew, "Get someone to drive us. We're going out to bring Andy back using Sarah!"
"Yes!"
Matthew prepared the car, and together with Grandpa Johnson, they headed straight to Ernest's house.
However, when they arrived, they learned that Sarah was still working overtime at the company and had gone to the branch office.
Ernest and his wife thought Sarah had made some huge mistake.
They didn't even eat dinner and followed in their car, heading to Sarah's branch office.
8 o'clock in the evening
Sarah was still working on the bid proposal in her office. It was a chance for her to prove herself, so she attached great importance to this bid.
She had locked herself in the office since she returned in the morning. She hadn't even eaten lunch or dinner!
Suddenly, the office door was pushed open.
Standing at the door were Grandpa Johnson and Matthew, both with unpleasant expressions.
Sarah quickly stood up. "Grandpa, Uncle, why are you here?"
Surprised, she wondered why her grandfather had come to her branch office. It had never happened before.
Furrowing his brow, Grandpa Johnson said, "I'm here to give you a task. Mr. Smith wants to meet you. Go now!"
Sarah couldn't understand why her grandfather was saying this to her. She respectfully replied, "Grandpa, I have a bid proposal to work on. Is it okay if I don’t go?"
She wanted to say that she didn’t want to go at all. She hated Sam!
To Sarah's astonishment, Grandpa Johnson slapped her across the face. "Listen carefully! I'm giving you an order, I’m not asking for your opinion!"
Sarah covered the mark on her face from the slap, feeling confused and wronged. "But why?"
"If I tell you to go, you go! If you keep talking back, I'll remove you from your position and take back your authority over our branch office!"
As soon as he finished speaking, Karen barged into the office and urged Sarah, "Grandpa wants you to go, so hurry up! It's just a meeting with Sam, right? You haven't even apologized to him yet!"
After speaking, she turned to Grandpa Johnson again.
She wore a flattering smile and said, "Dad! Please calm down. I'll make sure Sarah goes over. You mustn't take back control of the subsidiary company!"
Grandpa Johnson snorted coldly with his hands behind his back. "Then hurry up! Stop wasting time!"
