Chapter 435 Ambush?
The second George heard the sirens, his brow furrowed.
He had a really bad feeling about this!
Soon enough, a bunch of cops stormed into Polka Bar.
"Stay where you are! Someone reported a brawl here. Who made the call?"
Oscar Phillips, the lead officer, barked out, making everyone freeze in place.
Why did the cops show up so fast?
Honestly, they didn't think much of it. Bar fights were pretty common. Even though Polka Bar usually stayed out of trouble, a fight wasn't a huge deal. The cops would just check things out and calm everyone down.
Right then, Viper stepped forward, looking all humble. He raised his hand and said to Oscar, "I called the police!"
Oscar asked, "What's the situation?"
Viper's face turned all pitiful as he pointed at George. "It was him and his guys who attacked us! We came all the way from New York City to have some fun, and we got bullied. This really gives me a bad impression of Houston!"
Everyone around was stunned.
Damn, this guy was quick to snitch!
What a load of crap!
Even Oscar frowned.
He knew a bit about George!
In Houston, George had a rep as a gangster, but he'd been keeping a low profile lately. Especially at Polka Bar, there'd never been any bullying of customers!
But Oscar had to do his job, so he asked George, "Is this true?"
George shook his head. "He's lying. He and his crew caused trouble in my bar, forced the waitstaff to kneel and toast, and even hurt my guy with a broken bottle. The customers here can back me up!"
As soon as he finished, the customers stepped up to testify.
"George is right. We saw this guy named Viper causing trouble, and now he's calling the cops and lying!"
"Exactly! We were having a good time, and he suddenly broke a bottle and started a scene!"
"Don't let him off just because he's from New York City. Causing trouble is illegal; he should be arrested!"
"That's right. If you need proof, check the surveillance footage. It must have caught everything!"
Seeing all the customers standing up for George made Viper squint his eyes.
He thought, 'George seems to have a good rep in Houston! So many people are backing him up!'
At this moment, Oscar turned to Viper with a frown and asked, "Got anything else to say?"
From the moment he saw Viper, Oscar had a bad feeling about him. Based on his years of experience, this guy was definitely trouble!
Of course, that was just his gut feeling. Without solid evidence, he couldn't just label someone as a bad guy!
Viper smiled and said, "There might have been a misunderstanding about the fight! It's my fault. Everyone, don't mind it!"
Hearing this, George's guys were immediately pissed.
"What are you talking about? You caused trouble and hurt people in our bar, and now you want to brush it off as a 'misunderstanding'?"
"Also, you made a false police report. You know you can get detained for that, right?"
"You owe us an explanation!"
George's crew was fuming.
If the cops weren't around, they would've jumped Viper without a second thought!
But Viper? He didn't even flinch.
He glanced at George and his guys, then turned to Oscar with a serious look. "I called the cops about the fight to keep the crucial evidence from being moved. I had no other choice. Hope you understand."
Oscar frowned. "What evidence?"
Viper walked over to the sofa they were sitting on and lifted a cushion. "Check this out!"
Oscar's eyes widened.
Under the cushion was a palm-sized plastic bag with half a bag of white powder. Definitely not flour.
Oscar's experience kicked in—drugs!
The other officers thought the same thing.
They drew their guns and shouted, "Stay where you are! Hands up and squat down!"
Everyone was shocked but complied.
Oscar walked over, picked up the bag, and sniffed it.
High-purity drugs.
Everyone knew Houston had zero tolerance for drugs.
Oscar sternly asked Viper, "Did you find this?"
Viper nodded. "Yeah, I found it while drinking. Scared the hell out of me. I was worried they'd notice and run, so I called the cops about the fight. Shouldn't I get a reward for reporting this?"
Viper's words made George and everyone else go pale.
Drugs in Polka Bar?
No way.
George quickly realized this was Viper's setup.
He'd sensed Viper was trouble from the start and tried to get him to leave. But he never thought Viper would frame him with drugs.
This was a deadly move.
George took a deep breath. "This stuff isn't from our bar. It's Viper's setup!"
Viper smirked. "What are you pretending for? This stuff was found in your bar. Whose else could it be? Did we come all the way from New York City just to frame you?"
George shot back, "You know exactly what you're doing!"
Viper taunted, "Then show the evidence! If you can't, it's your bar's problem!"
Oscar cut in, "Enough! Everyone here is coming with us to the station for questioning! Hand over your phones and other devices now! No talking."
He instructed the other officers to call for backup and shut down Polka Bar for a thorough search.
