Chapter 154 I'll Help You!
Evening, Houston First Hospital.
As Karen lay in the hospital bed, she groaned, "It hurts! How cruel that woman is!"
Karen now had a large red swelling on both sides of her face and scratches that bled on her chin.
All of this was thanks to Jaxon's wife!
Because she was worried about the wound getting infected, Karen also had an IV.
Compared to her physical pain, the mental and emotional blow was much worse.
Thinking back to two hours ago in Jaxon's ward, when she kneeled down and apologized to Jaxon, anger welled up in her heart!
After coming out of Jaxon's ward, the first thing Karen did was call Sarah.
She told her that she and Aaron were beaten and hospitalized, and asked her to come to the hospital as soon as possible, or else they would be waiting for corpses!
Beside the hospital bed, Ernest was carefully peeling an apple.
He cautiously persuaded, "I think we should just let this matter go. Not to mention that Mr. Jaxon's family looks difficult to mess with, but in the end, it was us who started the fight with Mr. Jaxon. Both sides suffered losses, and pursuing it further may not end well!"
Karen widened her eyes and said, "Ernest! How can you, a useless coward, say those words to me! If you had helped me even a bit, would I have suffered in front of that woman? Do you even have a trace of a man in you?"
Ernest was frightened and trembled, and the apple in his hand fell to the ground.
He shrank his neck and said in a low voice, "I... I also want to help you, but there were so many of them, even if I helped, it would’ve been useless..."
Karen hated his lack of backbone and said, "Look at your pitiful appearance! You make me sick! I really don't understand how I ended up marrying someone like you. If it weren't for Aaron I would have divorced you long ago!"
Ernest kept his head down, not daring to utter a word of retort.
At this time, Aaron, lying in the bed next to them, spoke up, "Mom! Now you know how crazy that cripple and his family are, right? This whole thing has nothing to do with me. They are the ones who have gone too far!"
Karen turned to look at Aaron and comforted him, "Ah! My good son, I understand your difficulties. We will definitely settle this score!"
Aaron nodded heavily and gritted his teeth, "That's right! If I had known yesterday at lunch, I would have kicked that cripple even harder!"
At that moment, the door of the ward was pushed open.
Sarah and Ryder walked into the ward.
"Mom! What happened?" Sarah immediately asked anxiously as soon as she entered.
Although she was still angry at Karen and Aaron from yesterday.
But they were family, after all. Upon hearing that her mother and brother were beaten, she rushed over immediately!
Karen saw Ryder behind Sarah and felt a bit puzzled!
She thought that this good-for-nothing had already divorced her daughter, so why did he come along?
He must not have been willing to divorce and was afraid that he wouldn't even have a breeze of the northwest wind if he left their family, so he was pestering Sarah to reconcile!
Certainly!
If it were any other time, Karen would have already approached and kicked Ryder out!
But now, lying in bed with an IV drip attached to her, Sarah ignored Ryder's existence because she had more important matters to attend to.
A look of resentment and weakness appeared on her face as she said, "What took you so long to get here? I see that you've completely forgotten about me, you have no relationship with me whether I live or die. Why am I so unlucky? I married a useless man, and then gave birth to this unthoughtful daughter. Just when I finally had a precious son, he ended up in the hospital!"
Initially, Sarah was very concerned about Karen's situation. After all, it sounded serious over the phone. But now, it seemed like it was just some minor external injuries and shouldn't be a big deal.
As for Aaron, he was still conscious and breathing! He wouldn't die! The lingering worry in Sarah's heart was finally relieved.
Sarah seemed to disregard Karen's complaints and asked, "Mom, who exactly did this to you and Aaron?"
Karen already had her response prepared for this question. Telling the truth was out of the question. So, she decided to lie and said that she had contemplated all night at home and thought that Aaron physically assaulting someone was not a good influence. Therefore, today she planned to let Aaron apologize to Jaxon at the hospital. Little did she know that when Jaxon didn't see Aaron, he had his construction worker beat him up!
When she heard about this, Karen, as a concerned mother, came to the hospital to inquire about the situation. Before she could even speak, Jaxon's wife mounted her and began to beat her up. Many people in the hospital witnessed it.
All these words made it sound like it actually happened. To make it more believable, Karen even shed a few tears, looking as pitiful as possible.
Sarah frowned and muttered in confusion, "But Mr. Jaxon doesn't seem like that kind of person... how could he?"
Karen sighed and said, "In this day and age, you never know what disgusting things seemingly honest people are capable of doing behind closed doors. Let's not mention anything else, just look at this useless person behind you. We've been kind enough to him all these years, but look at how he repays us!"
At these words, a trace of displeasure flashed in Sarah's eyes as she retorted, "Mom, don't speak ill of Ryder like that! He has had a difficult life!"
Karen paused and said, "Silly girl! You're already divorced from him. Why are you still defending this useless man?"
Sarah took a deep breath and answered with a serious expression, "I have not divorced Ryder, and I won't in the future. He is the man I've chosen, so I won't allow anyone to speak ill of him in front of me!"
Karen's eyes widened at this statement. After all, she had celebrated Sarah's successful divorce from Ryder just the night before. She never expected that they hadn't actually divorced.
Her face immediately darkened, "Are you intentionally trying to anger me? Two days ago, you were so determined and promised me that you would divorce that useless man. How can you go back on your word?"
Aaron chimed in, "What's there to hold on to for a useless man like him?"
Sarah replied, "Say what you want, but I will never divorce Ryder!"
Karen smirked and said, "Sarah! Today, I want to see which is more important to my daughter. Her mom or this waste of space."
As she said that, she intended to get up from the bed.
Prepared to resort to the same old trick of threatening to jump off!
Just then, Ryder suddenly walked to Karen's bedside and took the IV drip off the stand.
Karen was taken aback and asked, "What are you doing?"
With a calm expression, Ryder replied, "You wanted to jump off, right? Let me hold the IV drip for you at the window, so you won't keep complaining that I, as your son-in-law, only eat and don't do anything, right?"
