Chapter 589 Is Barbara Awake?
Ryder didn't pretend to understand women.
But right now, Anna wouldn't buy it; whatever he said would sound like a lie to her.
So he just said, "Get some rest," then closed the door and left.
Outside the door, Rex saw Ryder come out.
He walked up, looking guilty and worried. "Ryder, did I mess up?"
"No, you did the right thing."Ryder comforted him.
"But—" Rex still wanted to say something.
Ryder patted Rex on the shoulder, cutting him off, "Rex, remember, the world isn't just black and white. Just follow your heart and be yourself."
Rex nodded, looking serious.
Ryder then changed the subject, "By the way, weren't you with Barbara earlier? Is she awake?"
Rex immediately nodded."Yeah, she's awake!"
"Really?" Ryder was relieved; now Sarah could finally relax.
But Rex brought up another serious issue, "But the doctor mentioned something about hippocampal damage or something. I can't explain it well; you should come and see for yourself."
Hearing this, Ryder sighed heavily.
Sure enough, the worst had happened.
Barbara might end up completely impaired after this incident.
After all, for a normal person, getting hit on the back of the head like that and surviving was already lucky.
In the hospital room, Barbara was undergoing a doctor's examination.
Seeing Ryder and Rex come in, she immediately asked, "Hey, who are you? This is my room, get out!"
Barbara saw that the two didn't move and instead walked towards her bed.
Her eyes were full of disbelief. "What are you doing? Didn't you hear me? This is my room, please leave! Or I'll have the doctors and nurses kick you out!"
The doctor quickly stepped in. "Miss, please calm down! These two are your family and friends who brought you to the hospital last night."
"Oh, I see!" Barbara then looked at Ryder and Rex again.
With a hint of disdain in her eyes, she said, "Thank you, then. So, how much money do you want? I'll give it to you! I understand that the reason you brought me to the hospital and didn't leave is because you want my gratitude and reward! Don't worry, I'm not stingy; I'll pay you well!"
At this moment, Anna also walked in.
Barbara's eyes lit up. "Oh my God, Anna, why are you here?"
Anna rushed to the bedside, excitedly holding Barbara's hands.
She said excitedly, "Barbara, you remember me! Oh my God, this is great! It's so good that you're okay!"
Barbara frowned. "This is so strange. How did I end up in the hospital with a head injury? What happened last night?"
"Barbara, you..." Anna stuttered for a while.
Then she thought of a possibility.
Tentatively, she asked, "So Barbara, tell me, what did we do yesterday?"
Barbara pouted, "What else? We went to that socialite training class! You know what our instructor Sierra told me? She said someone named Tyler likes me and wanted to set us up! But you know, I have a disgusting stepfather at home. If he knew I was dating someone, he'd beat me to death!"
Hearing this, Anna covered her mouth in shock.
Barbara's memory was back to three years ago!
Barbara continued, sticking out her tongue in embarrassment, "I forgot there were people in the room."
Anna's tears started to fall.
Barbara was puzzled. "Anna, why are you crying?"
Anna shook her head, tears streaming down her face. "Barbara, I'm sorry! I'm so sorry! You might not believe this, but the truth is, you suffered a severe head injury and may have lost the past three years of your memory."
"How is that possible? Anna, that's not a funny joke!" Barbara's eyes flashed with confusion and panic.
At this point, the doctor suggested leaving the room to the patient and her friends.
Ryder and the others followed the doctor and nurses out.
The doctor told Ryder, "After such a severe impact, it's fortunate that the patient only suffered hippocampal damage, losing some declarative long-term memory. But luckily, there was no severe brain damage or a vegetative state."
Ryder asked, "Memory loss?"
The doctor nodded. "Based on the patient's clinical performance, it seems she only lost the past three years of memory."
"Can the memory be restored?" Ryder continued to ask.
"It's very difficult! According to current data, the patient's hippocampal area has severe cell death and large gaps. Truly restoring memory is almost impossible! But we can't rule out medical miracles, like if the patient's body is special and the hippocampus heals completely, the memory might return!"
The doctor's explanation left Ryder feeling deeply powerless.
However, the fact that Barbara wasn't in life-threatening danger was already the biggest blessing.
After discussing Barbara's condition with the doctor, Ryder immediately reported the good news to Sarah.
Sarah was shocked, but she understood that it wasn't Ryder's fault.
She also warned Ryder to be cautious in Aurora City and not to offend anyone. Otherwise, he would be the next to suffer.
Hearing Sarah's understanding and concern, Ryder was moved.
He silently vowed that he would never let anyone around him get hurt again!
On the other side, Anna came out of the hospital room.
She walked straight to Ryder and said, "Stop the video call for now and go in. Barbara wants to see you!"
On the other end of the video call, Sarah clearly heard what Anna said.
She immediately made a decision for Ryder, "Alright, Ryder, give the phone to Barbara. I'll video call her first! She should still recognize me!"
Ryder's mouth twitched.
She would definitely recognize her. But Ryder hadn't forgotten that Barbara had admitted she liked Sarah.
So, Barbara must be back to wanting to steal his wife Sarah?
How could he let that happen?!
However, considering Barbara's current situation, Ryder still agreed this video call.
As Ryder walked into the hospital room with the phone, he saw Barbara on the bed, looking furious.
Ryder sighed and handed over the phone. "It's a video call from Sarah."
Barbara immediately perked up and took the phone.
She looked into the camera, showing a friendly and cheerful smile.
"Sarah! It's really you! I miss you so much! I want to kiss you!"
Ryder felt helpless hearing this.
Then he heard Barbara's pitiful voice, "Sarah, I'm sorry for worrying you! But look, I'm fine now! Even though I've lost three years of memory, my love for you will never change!"
