Chapter 147 Can We Not Get a Divorce?

In the evening, after Ryder cleverly instigated a brawl among Manuel's wife and her group, he received a call from George informing him that they had made some progress in uncovering the truth behind the warehouse fire.

He rushed over.

The breakthrough came from a simple yet overlooked detail. There were a total of six employees trapped in the warehouse fire.

One was seriously injured, four were lightly injured, and one remained unharmed!

George had his men discreetly investigate these six employees, particularly focusing on the unharmed one named Kevin.

After the investigation, they discovered that Kevin had been working as a duty officer at the warehouse for over a year.

He was in his thirties and still unmarried.

His gambling addiction had racked up debts of two to three hundred thousand dollars over the years.

He borrowed money from everywhere but refused to pay it back, so not many people were willing to associate with him.

But strangely, in the past two days, Kevin suddenly changed!

He not only quickly paid off all his gambling debts, but also spent over two hundred thousand dollars to buy a car.

A second-hand BMW!

According to his friends, Kevin recently made a lot of money somehow, but he won't say how. It's really strange!

Coincidentally, early that morning around four or five o'clock, there was a fire at the SR Group warehouse, and Kevin was the only employee who didn't get injured.

The timing of these two incidents seemed more than coincidental.

At noon today, Kevin left the hospital claiming he wasn't injured. He rushed back home immediately, preparing to drive somewhere. But he was captured by George's men, who were already lying in wait at his house, and brought to an abandoned steel factory!

Using the same intimidation tactics he had on Manuel's wife, George frightened Kevin into talking. Sure enough, George got Kevin to spill some crucial information. He found out that Kevin was responsible for setting the SR Group warehouse on fire!

And four days ago, a mysterious person gave him $500,000 to do it! Kevin agreed and carried out the task for the money.

Originally, as per the mysterious person's request, he was supposed to burn the rest of the employees to death. However, due to his remaining conscience, he woke them up shortly after the fire started. But it was precisely because of this action that he realized his actions may have been exposed, leading him to think of driving away after returning home from the hospital.

George took two steps forward and respectfully said to Ryder, "Mr. Clark, it is now certain that the warehouse fire was deliberate, and all subsequent emotional manipulation of the families came from the same person! We just don't know the person's identity yet!"

Ryder spoke up, "It's already impressive that you've reached this stage. You've worked hard! Since we already know that the person used bank transfers, I believe we can find more crucial clues! Of course, handling this might get complicated, so we should bring in the police."

George nodded, "Mr. Clark, don’t worry. I have contacts at the station who will make sure this is investigated thoroughly."

At this moment, thunder suddenly burst outside, followed by a drizzle. Ryder squinted his eyes slightly and muttered softly, "I wonder when the rain will truly stop..."

Sarah drove straight to the police station. She had called Ryder multiple times on the way, but each time it went straight to voicemail. This made Sarah even more certain that Ryder had been apprehended by the police and had his phone confiscated, which was why she couldn't reach him!

But when she arrived at the police station and asked the on-duty officer, she learned that the hospital incident had already been resolved long ago, and there was no one named Ryder who had been brought in for questioning.

Sarah finally breathed a sigh of relief but was also worried about leaving the police station! It had started raining outside!

"Where the hell did he go?" Sarah muttered to herself as she walked toward her car, feeling doubtful. Suddenly, she thought of something.

"Could he be going to the bar to find that woman again? He must be! What a scumbag!" With that thought, jealousy surged within Sarah.

Suddenly, she heard familiar voice in the constant noise of the rain.

“I'm sorry for being late,” Ryder, holding an umbrella, said softly.

At this moment, tears flooded Sarah's eyes! She buried her face in Ryder's chest, holding onto him tightly, afraid that he would leave if she loosened her grip.

Tears blended with the raindrops falling from her hair, and she cried, saying, “I should be the one apologizing... I was wrong... Can we not get divorced?”

Ryder gently stroked her head, his voice choked with emotion, and whispered, “Silly girl! I never thought of divorcing you..."
