Chapter 52 Sarah's Slap!
In a daze, Ryder had a dream where he was walking in the cold, dark night, dressed thinly.
Not knowing how long he had walked, feeling cold and exhausted, he finally came across a bed.
There was a large comforter on the bed, which brought great joy to Ryder's heart. Without hesitation, he dove into the warm, soft, and comfortable bed.
Just as he closed his eyes and wrapped himself tightly in the covers, a sudden slap came.
Ryder was startled awake.
Opening his eyes, he saw Sarah sitting on the hospital bed, glaring at him angrily.
It was her slap that woke him up.
"Ryder! You scoundrel! I never thought you were that kind of person..."
Sarah spoke with a slightly aggrieved look.
"I..." Ryder was confused. Why did she suddenly slap him?
But when he lowered his head and took a closer look, his eyes widened.
He somehow found himself lying on a hospital bed!
How did this happen?
His mind raced. Only then did he vaguely recall that it must have been because the air conditioning in the ward was set too low last night.
In his dazed state, he unintentionally crawled into Sarah's bed.
Nestled under the covers, Sarah looked at Ryder, her expression filled with resentment and anger. Her eyes were slightly red.
Since they got married, they never had any intimate contact. It was her request, and she didn't allow Ryder to cross the line.
For three years, Ryder had been obedient and never did anything out of line.
It was disappointing to see him taking advantage of the situation today.
Seeing Sarah's expression, Ryder's heart tightened. He quickly explained the situation, emphasizing that it was unintentional, not his deliberate act.
He sincerely apologized to Sarah and promised that it would never happen again.
After listening to his explanation, Sarah fell into contemplation.
Ryder's explanation had no logical flaws and didn't seem like a lie. Moreover, if he was really that kind of lecherous man, he would have made a move long ago.
Perhaps she had unjustly accused him.
With this thought, a faint blush of embarrassment appeared on Sarah’s face. But with her somewhat stubborn personality, she certainly wouldn’t apologize to Ryder voluntarily.
She huffed lightly, saying, "For now, I'll forgive you. But if I catch you having any improper thoughts, I will definitely punish you!"
"Understood, my dear wife!" Ryder made a salute gesture, feeling relieved.
Sarah glared at him and playfully punched his chest, saying, "You're so annoying!"
Ryder laughed.
He increasingly felt that lately, his relationship with Sarah had become closer and finally resembled that of a normal couple.
"Alright, let's get to the point!" Sarah's expression became serious. "After I fainted from low blood sugar last night, how did you manage to escape from Sam's clutches? They didn't do anything to you, did they?"
"Wife, don't worry. It's all in the past now! Starting from today, the Smith family will never bother us again!"
Sarah spoke with frustration, "Ryder! How can you still say such things at a time like this? I know Sam's character very well."
"Although we barely escaped this time, he and the Smith family won't let us go. If it really comes to it, we’ll get a divorce. I don’t want to drag you down."
With a confident face, Ryder said to Sarah, "Wife, I’m not lying to you! The Smith family is in big trouble, and they can't even ensure their own safety anymore! We don't need to get a divorce. Let's just live our own lives!"
However, Sarah couldn't believe Ryder's words. After all, in her eyes, the Smith family was a prominent family in Houston.
Such a powerhouse wouldn't encounter troubles big enough to put their own safety at risk, right?
Ryder must be mistaken. He must be intentionally lying to console her.
Sarah sighed in disappointment. "Forget it, I'll go home and talk to my parents. I never expected anything from you! Let's just leave the hospital and go back."
Ryder responded with a faint bitter smile and didn't explain himself.
Before long, news about the Smith family's incident would spread throughout Houston.
Then, naturally, his innocence would be restored.
So, the two of them checked out and took a taxi home.
Upon returning home and walking upstairs to the door, Ryder saw Mr. and Mrs. Ernest moving something outside.
Taking a closer look, he noticed that it was some of his personal belongings.
Seeing this, Sarah asked, "Mom, what are you doing?"
Karen looked up and became delighted at the sight of Sarah, saying with enthusiasm, "Sarah, you're back so early! Why didn't Sam come with you?"
Sarah furrowed her brows. "I don't want to mention him!"
Karen, wearing a knowing expression, smiled and said, "I understand! After the first time, it's always a bit awkward. Stop standing at the doorway and go inside to rest. I'll make you something delicious."
"I've calculated everything, and it wasn't your safe period last night. It's quite a coincidence! If we're lucky enough, I'll be a grandmother in ten months!"
Ernest, standing next to her, also grinned foolishly and nodded along.
"Mom! What are you talking about? How did we suddenly start talking about being a grandmother?" Sarah looked puzzled.
Karen pouted and said, "Why can't we talk about it? You didn't come home last night after staying outside with Sam, and something happening between two young people is very normal. I can understand and support it!"
Sarah rolled her eyes in exasperation. She realized that her own parents, instead of rescuing her when she was in danger last night, were now saying these kinds of things.
It was like rubbing salt in her wounds!
At this moment, Karen frowned and stared at Ryder behind Sarah.
Twisting her mouth, she scolded, "I've thrown all your things outside. Take them and get out! After your divorce with Sarah is settled tomorrow, the Johnson family will have nothing to do with you anymore. Remember that!"
Ryder looked at his belongings scattered all over the floor and naturally felt displeased.
Hence, he replied dejectedly, "I've said it many times already. Only if Sarah insists on divorce will I agree. What others say doesn't matter!"
"Damn you!" Karen was itching to give Ryder a piece of her mind.
She pointed a finger at his nose, saying, "Haven't you seen that Sarah is already with Sam? Regardless, this marriage must end. If you don't divorce, don't blame me for being impolite. I'll go find Sam myself to deal with you! The incident of you beating up Sam isn't over yet. Do you think you can endure Sam and the Smith family's wrath?"
At these words, a barely detectable smile appeared on Ryder's lips.
"Well, you can try. I want to see how the Smith family will unleash their anger."
