Chapter 23 A Bet!

Upon hearing this, everyone wore expressions of astonishment.
Abigail furrowed her brow and asked, "Aunt, who is this Sam you're referring to?"
Karen, wanting to save face, rarely had a chance to gloat and replied triumphantly, "It's Sam, the eldest son of the Smith Group! He came to my house yesterday with a proposal, along with gifts!"
This statement shocked everyone.
The Smith Group was nearly a billion-dollar enterprise, much stronger than the Hall family!
However, some people doubted Karen's words.
Lawrence curled his lips and said, "Karen, stop joking around! Sam only had one eye, and that's why he took a liking to your daughter? It's not that Sarah isn't good enough, but she's already a married woman!"
Abigail chimed in, "My dad makes a good point. If Mr. Sam wanted to propose to Sarah with a gift, where is that gift?"
Karen froze for a moment, suddenly realizing that Ryder, that jerk, had destroyed all the gifts Sam brought!
She truly regretted not taking a photo as a keepsake.
Seeing Karen's lack of response, everyone became more convinced that she was lying and feeling guilty.
In a stern voice, Grandpa Johnson reprimanded, "Seeking attention through lies!"
Karen shrank her neck in fear. She felt so wronged. It was true, but why wouldn't anyone believe her? It's all Ryder's fault. Mumbling to herself in dissatisfaction, she said, "Believe it or not, I've seen this necklace before, and it's worth only one million dollars!"
Allan's expression briefly showed panic, and he quickly explained to Abigail, "Abigail, don't listen to her! This diamond necklace was bought by a friend from abroad for two million dollars. It's absolutely genuine!"
"I believe you, of course!" Abigail said with an admiring expression.
Allan felt relieved.
In front of everyone, Abigail put on the diamond necklace and boasted to Sarah, "See that? This is my boyfriend's gift. Now look at your loser husband. Has he ever given you a gift in the three years of your marriage? Don't even mention two million dollars; I doubt he can even come up with a gift worth two hundred bucks!"
Andy then joined in with mockery, saying, "That trash could never buy gifts with money!"
Sarah had been enduring since she set foot in the Johnson family's old mansion. But the other party kept pushing it!
Finally, unable to hold back any longer, she exploded, "Who said Ryder hasn't bought me any gifts?"
Abigail, with an expectant look, said, "Then show it to us already. I'm curious if it's a drink bottle he picked up from the street or a rotten apple that someone else left behind."
Sarah took out a necklace from her pocket and slammed it on the table!
"This is what Ryder bought for me! Had enough yet?"
Her voice was choking up a bit!
She knew that taking out this necklace would only invite humiliation, but she didn't know why she still did it.
Perhaps it was to prove something since Ryder had never bought her a gift before in their marriage!
Upon seeing the necklace, Karen's face changed slightly, unable to hold back, she said, "Sarah! Isn't this what that useless guy bought from the two-dollar shop? I thought you threw it in the trash; why did you embarrass yourself by taking it out again?"
She reached out to quickly take away the necklace but Abigail snatched it away first and said, "What a big diamond! The craftsmanship is beautiful too! It's just a pity that the knock-offs from the two-dollar shop can't compare to something like this!"
Sarah frowned and said, "Give me the necklace back. It was a gift from Ryder!"
"What's the big deal about playing with this broken thing?" Abigail looked arrogant, showing no intention of returning it to Sarah.
"If it gets damaged, you won't be able to afford compensating for it!" Suddenly, Ryder's voice sounded abruptly!
Ryder didn't expect that Sarah would be able to carry the diamond necklace with her at all times.
Especially after Sarah said, "This is a gift from Ryder!"
This warmed Ryder's heart. How could he allow others to insult the gift he gave to Sarah? That's why he had to step forward!
Abigail stared at Ryder dumbfounded and said, "What did you say? I won't be able to afford it if it gets damaged?"
Ryder nodded with a serious expression.
Abigail burst into laughter, clutching her stomach. "Do you have shit for brains? For this broken necklace, I can ask my boyfriend to buy a bag full in minutes. And you say I won't be able to afford it? What a joke!"
Everyone joined in, mocking and teasing, "Ryder only earns a few dollars a month. Things from the two-dollar shop are treasures to him!"
"After all, he's used to being poor. Who knows, one day he might find a piece of brass and claim it's gold to impress us all! Haha!"
Even Grandpa Johnson coldly snorted, "Utter waste!"
Faced with everyone's mockery
On the other hand, Ryder showed no signs of backing down and stared at Abigail. "If you don't believe me, we can make a bet!"
Abigail immediately became interested. "Let's bet then, what are the stakes?"
"It's simple. If you lose, you have to apologize to Sarah in front of everyone and slap yourself three times!"
"Alright!" Abigail agreed without hesitation. In her eyes, she thought Ryder was just showing off and there was no way he could possibly win!
Resolutely, she said to Ryder, "But if you lose, you have to kneel down and bark like a dog in front of everyone! Can you handle it?"
The meaning was clear, if Ryder lost and barked like a dog, then he would be a dog! And Sarah, his wife, would be a dog too!
Sarah quickly tried to persuade Ryder, "Don't listen to her! Let's not bet!"
Ryder reassured Sarah with a glance.
He then confidently replied to Abigail, "No problem!"
"It's settled then! Hahaha, you idiot, get ready to bark like a dog later!" Abigail was excited.
Sarah clenched her teeth, feeling disappointment filling her heart. In her opinion, the previous Ryder may have been somewhat weak, but he never sought attention.
However, recently something had changed. He had become like this. Perhaps her mother was right, it was time to consider discussing divorce with Ryder...
Abigail placed Ryder's necklace on the table and said to everyone, "I have a sister who works in the jewelry industry. She can instantly tell whether this necklace is real or fake and how much it's worth!"
She took a picture of Ryder's necklace, opened WhatsApp, and sent it to her sister, asking for appraisal!
Her sister responded quickly. Within a minute, she sent a voice message.
Abigail wanted everyone to witness Ryder's failure, so she turned up the volume on her phone to the maximum and played the voice message from her sister!
An excited voice mixed with envy resounded through the restaurant, "Abigail, where did you get this diamond necklace? It's amazing! Oh my god!"
Abigail's face was filled with shock as she opened the voice message and said to her sister, "Are you mistaken? This necklace was clearly bought from a two-dollar shop!"
Her sister replied quickly, "Abigail! Today is not April Fools' Day. Don't mess with me! I saw this necklace with my own eyes last week. It's called 'Endless Love' and it's worth over five million!"
Abigail felt her mind explode.
Endless Love?
Over five million?
How...how was this possible?
