Chapter 448 Heavy Rain
Abigail turned to Heather and asked, "Grandma, why?"
Heather lifted her eyelids and said calmly, "I need to talk to her first."
"Okay," Abigail nodded respectfully and stepped aside.
Heather, leaning on her cane, slowly walked up to Sarah.
"Sarah, we've treated you well all these years. Why do you keep helping that ungrateful Ryder against the Johnson family?" Heather asked.
Sarah stayed silent.
Heather raised an eyebrow. "How dare you! Now you won't even answer me?"
Sarah lifted her head and met Heather's gaze. "Ryder's not ungrateful. I never meant to go against the Johnson family. Haven't you always been the ones pushing me?"
Heather frowned. "Sarah, do you know what you're saying?"
Sarah's tone was calm. "I'm just telling the truth."
Heather was momentarily speechless.
Sandra, standing nearby, couldn't take it anymore.
She pointed at Sarah and scolded, "Sarah, how did the Johnson family end up with a traitor like you? Ryder's already in prison, and you still defend him? Do you expect him to come and save you like before? Stop dreaming!"
Everyone from the Johnson family joined in the derision.
"Sandra, you nailed it!"
"Ryder's a hero in her eyes! His image will never collapse!"
"I wonder if the food in prison is any good!"
The mocking laughter pierced Sarah's heart.
She bit her lip, trying to control her emotions.
According to the agreement, if she held on until the birthday banquet officially started, the Johnson family would drop the charges against Ryder.
Seeing Sarah still holding back, the Johnson family members grew even more haughty.
Everyone continued to make sarcastic remarks.
Abigail and Andy went even further, nitpicking at Sarah, criticizing her kneeling posture and her attitude.
This made it even harder for Sarah.
Their behavior gave them a strong sense of satisfaction.
The grievances they had endured over the past few months were finally being released.
At this moment, Andy glanced around and asked, "I heard Ryder's sister Ava went back to Houston? Why isn't she here? She should be kneeling with you to reduce trouble for her brother."
Abigail chimed in, "Exactly! Every time I saw her, she was as repulsive as Ryder. No wonder, they're Clark's descendants!"
Sarah didn't say a word.
In fact, when she accepted Heather's conditions, Ava was strongly opposed.
However, Sarah had made up her mind, and no matter how much Ava tried to dissuade her, it was in vain.
So, Ava proposed to kneel with Sarah to plead for Ryder, but Sarah refused.
She worried that if Ava showed up at the Johnsons', they'd redirect their anger at her, so she ordered Rex to keep Ava in the Paris Bay community and not let her out without permission.
Today, Sarah had made up her mind to face the Johnson family's humiliation alone.
Luckily, the Johnson family didn't dwell on Ava and focused all their anger on Sarah.
The way the Johnson family treated Sarah caught the attention of the surrounding guests, sparking quite a bit of gossip.
"Isn't Sarah part of the Johnson family? Why are they treating her like this?"
"You're really out of the loop! Ryder's longstanding feud with the Johnson family is well-known. Now that Ryder's down, the Johnson family is seizing the chance to deal with them!"
"I heard the Ernest family met a tragic end. Ernest is in the hospital, his wife and son are missing, and his daughter is in prison!"
"I'd say this is what happens when you go against the Johnson family. So if you work for them, you better be diligent. Otherwise, this is a lesson for all!"
The Johnson family mocked Sarah at the gate for over twenty minutes.
Everyone was getting a bit dry-mouthed, so they finally stopped.
Heather lifted her cane and struck Sarah's shoulder a few times, saying coldly, "Remember, from today on, you're just a dog to the Johnson family. If you try to bite us again, don't blame me for being ruthless!"
After saying this, Heather led the members back into the courtyard.
Tyler didn't follow immediately.
Instead, he bent down slightly, showing a greedy smile to Sarah. "Sarah, at this point, if you agree to be my mistress, I'll make sure you live in ease and comfort. And the Johnson family won't go after you anymore. Won't you consider it?"
Hearing this, Sarah looked at Tyler with determined eyes and responded, "No matter what happens, as his wife, I will never betray him. So please give up."
"Fine!" Tyler gritted his teeth. "You're still so stubborn. Just wait! After the birthday banquet, I'll have plenty of time to play with you!"
He then sneered, carefully walking back into the courtyard, afraid of any further injury.
When they returned to the main hall, Andy ordered the pre-arranged band to play music and sing to liven up the atmosphere, creating a festive mood.
Heather was especially happy!
In her seventy-plus years, she had never felt so flattered and pleased!
Looking at the gifts from the guests, she was already contemplating whether to hold a birthday banquet every year, just to rake in the gifts!
At that moment, a sudden thunderclap echoed in the sky!
The once dull sky suddenly started to drizzle, quickly escalating into a heavy downpour!
The sudden rain caused chaos among the guests in the courtyard, who scrambled to find shelter!
Seeing this, Andy's face changed. "This shouldn't be happening! The weather forecast said it would be cloudy today, so why is it raining heavily?"
After all, rain on a birthday was not a good omen!
Could something big be about to happen?
