Chapter 202 Sarah's Decision
Ryder's words reached the crowd, bringing a collective sigh of relief.
After all, kneeling down and getting slapped was much better than being beaten up like Joshua.
So those people kneeled down one after another, slapping their own cheeks.
By this time, the music in the bar had stopped playing, so the sound of slapping echoed throughout the whole bar.
No one dared to fool around, they were all hitting themselves hard.
After all, George was standing right there, so anyone who played around would be asking for trouble.
Moreover, they were all worried that if they didn't satisfy Ryder, they would end up like Joshua.
Ryder suddenly shouted, "Apologize to my wife!"
At first, those people stared at each other for a few seconds in confusion, then immediately reacted and quickly turned toward Sarah while apologizing to her.
"I was disrespectful toward you earlier, Ms. Johnson. Please don't take it to heart."
"I was confused for a moment and believed the rumors on the internet. I promise I’ll never make that mistake again."
"Take it easy, Ms. Johnson. I’m sure those things online were all fake. I'm willing to come forward and help you restore your reputation online."
Sarah watched as those people apologized, feeling a bit dazed.
After all, just a few minutes ago, they had insulted and mocked her, and it still lingered in her mind.
But now, everything had completely turned around since Ryder appeared.
This turnaround felt unreal.
She pinched her arm discreetly.
She looked at Ryder with a mixture of curiosity, feeling a lack of confidence as she asked, "What should I do?"
Ryder replied nonchalantly, "It's up to you to decide what to do. If you're not happy, it doesn't matter even if you destroy them all."
Before Sarah could respond to his words, that group of people had already been scared out of their wits. They not only slapped themselves but also begged Sarah for forgiveness by kneeling and bowing to her.
However, Sarah's heart was kind. When she saw the situation, she quickly said, "Get up. I don't blame you... Knowing your mistake is enough."
The group of people exchanged glances, somewhat surprised in their hearts.
After all, in their eyes, if they were wrongly insulted like this, they would seek the chance to make the person who offended them apologize in the most merciless way possible to relieve their anger.
But Sarah had forgiven them so generously.
At this moment, they felt somewhat ashamed and truly regretted the comments they had made about Sarah earlier.
As for Sarah, once the situation was resolved, she walked straight out of the bar.
Ryder grabbed Sarah's bag when he saw that.
After saying goodbye to George and asking him to wrap things up, Ryder hurriedly followed her outside.
It was ten o'clock at night.
The river breeze blew gently along the Elmrest River.
Only a few people were around.
Sarah walked along the riverside path.
Ryder followed behind leisurely.
He understood that even though he had just helped Sarah out of a predicament, there was a bigger problem in Sarah's heart that needed to be resolved.
After walking a few miles, Sarah seemed to find her high heels tiring.
She simply took off her high heels, held one in each hand, and continued walking barefoot in her black stockings.
Fortunately, the riverside path was made of cement and was very clean, so it didn't hurt her feet.
They continued walking like this for another ten minutes or so.
They reached a riverside observation platform without any railings around it.
Usually, during the summer, children liked to sit on the observation platform in the evening, dipping their feet in the river to cool off.
Sarah sat down by the edge of the observation platform and immersed her feet in the river.
She flicked the water lightly with her feet.
The lights along the river were bright and soft.
Her red nail polish was highlighted against the black stockings.
Her long, straight black hair fluttered in the wind, creating a lovely picture when viewed from the side.
At that moment, she gazed into the distance, wondering about something.
Ryder walked up behind Sarah and gently said, "You should take your feet out. It's almost September, and the river water is cold. It's not good to be cold."
Sarah seemed to not hear his words. As if talking to herself, she asked Ryder, "Do you... do you think I'm dirty? Am I promiscuous woman?"
Ryder retorted, "Why would you say that?"
Sarah said mockingly, "This scandal has already spread throughout the streets of Houston. Everyone’s calling me a slut. When I think about it, I might really be that kind of woman. A woman who shouldn't have been born in this world in the first place."
Ryder frowned. "What are you saying? Those photos online are fake. I don't even need to think about it to know that someone must be deliberately framing you. Just ignore the discussions on the internet. Trust me, I’ll find out the truth."
Sarah started to choke. "Ignore the discussions on the internet? It’s easy for you to say since it didn't happen to you. How could you understand my pain? Why? Why do I have to endure something like this when I've always tried my best and been extremely cautious? I've had enough. I'm fed up."
As she spoke, tears streamed uncontrollably down Sarah's face.
Ryder felt a pang in his heart when he saw that.
He knew that Sarah had been deeply hurt by this incident.
But no matter what, he was not the person directly involved. And for a woman like Sarah, her reputation and innocence were of the utmost importance.
The pain that had been caused by this groundless scandal was indescribable. Ryder wanted to console her as much as possible. "I'm sorry. I didn't fulfill my responsibilities as a husband. I didn't take better care of you and protect you."
Sarah wiped away her tears haphazardly, took a deep breath, and turned her head to look at Ryder with swollen eyes. She earnestly said, "Ryder. Let's get a divorce, alright?"
Ryder was dumbfounded. Then he anxiously asked, "Divorce? Why do you want a divorce? Why would we get a divorce when everything’s fine?"
Sarah smiled bitterly and helplessly. "Don't get upset. I've made up my mind. It's obvious how people are talking about me now. I don't want to make things difficult for you. We should get divorced so you won't be affected. You're a good person. My family and I don’t deserve you. This is the last thing I can do for you. Please, please promise me we’ll get a divorce."
