Chapter 495 Happy Birthday!

Sarah's outfit, combined with her tone and attitude, shocked Ryder!

In their three years of marriage, Sarah barely ever cooked, and the two of them hardly ever shared a meal alone.

But what really got him? The way she called him "hubby!"

She usually just stuck to his name. As far as he could remember, this was the first time she'd called him "hubby" since they tied the knot!

Ryder scratched the back of his head and asked in confusion, "Sarah, what's going on?"

He felt a flicker of panic, wondering if she'd stumbled onto something she shouldn't have and was now playing some kind of mind game.

But Sarah just shot him a glare and snapped, "What's wrong? Did you forget your own birthday? Or is all this not good enough for you?"

"My birthday?" Ryder was stunned at first, then he reacted and slapped his forehead!

Oh my!

He almost forgot!

He's been so busy lately that he even forgot today was his birthday!

In fact, ever since he was kicked out by the Jones family, he hadn't celebrated a proper birthday in years!

After all, poor people don't deserve it!

Ryder felt a mix of satisfaction and warmth.

This was the first time in three years Sarah had gone all out for his birthday!

His voice softened, tinged with emotion. "Babe, thank you. I don't even know how to put it into words, but being with you—it's the best thing that's ever happened to me."

Sarah's eyes became moist at Ryder's words!

She quickly blinked to stop her tears from falling!

Pouting, she pretended to be calm and said, "Why are you being so sentimental? Hurry up and sit down to eat! If you wait any longer, it'll get cold!"

"Okay, okay!" Ryder quickly responded and sat across from Sarah!

Ryder opened a bottle of precious red wine and poured some for both Sarah and himself!

"Happy birthday!"

They clinked glasses!

And drank it all in one go!

After drinking, under the candlelight, the blush on Sarah's cheeks and neck became even more pronounced!

This made Sarah look even more charming!

"Do I look great?" Sarah suddenly asked.

Ryder, who was admiring her beauty, was slightly stunned, then quickly added, "You look great! Of course, you look great!!"

Sarah tilted her head and continued to ask, "Then who looks better, me or Barbara?"

"Of course, you look better!" Ryder said firmly.

"That's more like it!" Sarah hummed with satisfaction, looking as cute as a girl in love!

Ryder chuckled!

He grabbed his fork and dug in.

After the first bite, his expression shifted slightly.

Sarah tilted her head, concerned. "Is it bad?"

"It's... okay!" Ryder forced a polite, awkward smile.

But in his heart, he was already complaining that Sarah must have mixed up the salt and sugar, almost making him sick with sweetness!

He knew Sarah was good at everything except cooking!

Sure enough, when Sarah heard Ryder say her cooking was okay, she couldn't hide her joy and quickly gave Ryder more food: "Since it's okay, eat more. Don't leave any leftovers."

Ryder's mouth couldn't help but twitch...

An hour later, he finally choked down Sarah's cooking. But something felt off—his head was spinning, and his body was heating up in a way he couldn't ignore.

He hadn't drunk much, so why did he feel this way?

He couldn't help but look at Sarah.

Her low-cut evening dress showed off her perfect figure.

Even across the dining table, Ryder could still smell that unique scent in the air!

Feeling restless, Ryder couldn't help but swallow.

His head spun harder, his limbs feeling like they had a mind of their own.

"What the hell?" he muttered under his breath.

Across the table, Sarah watched Ryder's increasingly odd behavior, her hands clenched in her lap, palms slick with sweat.

She kept fiddling with her dress, as if she was struggling with something!

After a few minutes, she noticed Ryder's eyes turning bloodshot. Finally, she took a deep breath and made her move. "Babe, let's get you back to the room to rest."

At this point, Ryder's consciousness was almost chaotic!

Clueless about what was happening, Ryder let Sarah guide him upstairs.

As they climbed, he felt her softness pressed against him.

His heart raced, blood pounding in his ears, his breathing heavy and ragged.

The moment they stepped into the room, Ryder lost control.

He grabbed Sarah, pulling her inside with a force she didn't resist.

Her eyes shut tight, body stiff but yielding, she let him drag her into the bedroom without a word.

In a daze!

Ryder felt like he was dreaming!

A long, long dream!

This dream was both torturous and enjoyable, with the endless flames inside him being quenched again and again by a clear spring!

Until he had vented everything, he finally felt his eyes go black and remembered nothing!

The next morning, Ryder woke up with a pounding headache, his body aching like he'd been hit by a truck.

He rubbed his eyes, groggy and disoriented, only to find the bed empty beside him.

"What the hell happened last night?" he muttered, scratching his head.

But when he threw off the covers to get up, he froze.

There, on the sheets, was a stark red stain!

The air still carried a faint, lingering scent that made his stomach drop.

His mind raced, fragments of the night flashing back—flashes of heat, skin, and desperation.

It hit him like a ton of bricks.

He'd lost it!

And so had she!

Panicked, he threw on his clothes and bolted downstairs.

In the kitchen, Sarah stood with her hair loose, quietly making breakfast.

His heart clenched.

He rushed over, wrapping his arms around her from behind.

"Sarah, I—" Before he could finish, she flinched, letting out a sharp gasp.

Ryder looked up and saw that it wasn't Sarah who turned around!

It was Barbara!

Before he could react, the sound of footsteps echoed from the stairs.

He turned, his stomach twisting, to see Sarah standing there in a bathrobe, her eyes wide, staring at him and Barbara in stunned silence.
