Chapter 618 Attending the Wedding
The big day finally rolled around.
The wedding was set at Dreamland Manor, out in the eastern burbs of Aurora City.
Dreamland Manor had got it all—a golf course, a royal castle, a sacred chapel, everything one could think of.
But today, they shut the place down to tourists.
The morning news was all over it.
They painted the Young family, the Weaver family, the Johnson family, Maple Group, and the Moore family as "One Big Family of Aurora City," with the Johnsons playing middleman and the Youngs leading the pack, making it look like one big happy family to everyone else.
Plus, the latest buzz in the business world, "Treasure Hunt vs. Golden Eagle," spilled the beans on how tight the Young family and Maple Group really are!
But all this hype was cooked up by the Young family.
Their aim? To show the Jones family who was boss in Aurora City!
Tyler was stoked about how things were shaping up.
Bright and early, he was getting dolled up with the help of makeup artists and fashion designers.
He even took a moment to fold up the image of the Grim Reaper he worshipped at home and tucked it into his inner pocket.
He was looking for a little divine intervention!
He wanted everything to go off without a hitch today!
Out of nowhere, an assistant burst in, yelling, "Mr. Young, the wedding video we planned to play has been swapped with a USB drive! Good thing you told us to keep an eye on the surveillance; someone actually tried to mess with the wedding!"
"Oh?" Tyler's lips curled into a smirk. "Just as I thought!"
The assistant wiped the sweat off his forehead. "What do we do now? The original wedding video is gone. Should we ask the wedding company to whip up a new one? But there's no time!"
Tyler handed over a USB drive. "Just use the video on this!"
"Mr. Young, you're always one step ahead! Alright, we'll go with this one!" the assistant praised.
Meanwhile.
Ryder, Sarah, and the gang showed up at Dreamland Manor with their invites.
The alarm at the entrance suddenly went off.
Ryder, Sarah, and Rex were stopped by security, who warned them to hand over any banned items or get ready for a body search.
Ryder was baffled. "Banned items?"
The head security guard explained, "Controlled knives, flammable stuff, you know the drill. If I saw right, it's on this lady!"
Guests with invites were either loaded or high-class, so the security guards were naturally more polite.
The guard pointed to Sarah, standing next to Ryder.
Sarah was wearing a mask, making it hard to see her face.
She was also bundled up in a big black trench coat, looking nothing like someone going to a wedding.
Other female guests were all dolled up, wearing bright dresses, looking gorgeous, elegant, and classy!
Sarah, sensing something was off, instinctively shivered.
Suddenly, there was a sharp clink of metal hitting the ground—A knife fell out of Sarah's black trench coat!
Everyone there widened their eyes in shock, staring at the knife.
The security guards glared at Sarah, pulling out their batons.
If Sarah made any move, they were ready to act.
Ryder was just as shocked by Sarah's move. "Hey, don't freak out." Ryder squeezed Sarah's hand, feeling the sweat on her palm.
"I'm not freaking out!" Sarah insisted, shaking her head.
But she kept her gaze down.
This was her first time pulling a stunt like this, and she was naturally scared.
She had tried to get Barbara to see Tyler's true colors through Kyle, but Barbara wouldn't listen to anyone!
So, she had no choice but to crash the wedding!
She also figured that if things went south at the wedding, Ryder would be the one in the crosshairs.
If Ryder was in danger, she would step up to protect him!
So she had to pack some self-defense gear.
After thinking it over, a knife seemed like the best bet, with the most intimidation factor!
But Sarah didn't expect they'd have security checks at the wedding entrance.
Busted! And in front of everyone!
Did this mean their plan to disrupt the wedding was dead in the water?
"I'll take care of this! Don't worry, everything's gonna be fine!" Ryder kept reassuring Sarah.
Then Ryder pointed to the knife on the ground.
Then Ryder pointed to the knife on the ground, declaring, "This is a wedding gift from my wife Sarah to her sister Barbara!"
Everyone looked at Ryder like he was nuts.
The head security guard, though, sensed something else. "Sister? Are you from the Johnson family? Can I see your invite again?"
Earlier, he had only glanced at the invite and hadn't checked the names closely.
Ryder handed over the invite.
The invite simply read: [Johnson family.]
The head security guard got it after looking at it.
But he was puzzled. "Just the three of you? Even if you're from the Johnson family, giving a knife as a gift seems off, doesn't it?"
Ryder shot back, "Why not?"
The head security guard frowned. "How is it appropriate? I've never seen anyone give a knife at a wedding!"
"This is a kitchen knife, symbolizing the hope that Barbara will be a thrifty and capable homemaker!"
Ryder continued, "Actually, my wife Sarah has a personal reason. She hopes Barbara can manage the family finances, have some authority, and not lose herself in her future married life."
"There's nothing wrong with that! After all, as her family, we care about her!"
The head security guard didn't argue, as he also had a daughter.
Every daughter was a princess to her family, and they naturally hoped she married well and could manage the family finances!
"But I'm still confused. The Johnson family is marrying off two daughters today, and you only brought one knife. Isn't that odd? Or does your wife only get along with one sister and not the other?"
The head security guard pressed on.
That blunt question left Ryder momentarily speechless.
Indeed, as he said, Sarah got along well with Barbara but had a rocky relationship with Abigail.
But now wasn't the time to say that.
Just then, Sarah tugged at Ryder's sleeve.
Then, she suddenly opened her trench coat, raised her left arm high. In her hand was another identical knife!
She announced, "Including the one on the ground, there are exactly two!"
Ryder looked at her, speechless for a long time.
