Chapter 639 Zane? College Classmate

Ryder stared at Saskia in disbelief. He'd never expected her to say something like this.

At the train station, she'd mocked him for being poor. Now she was asking him not to abandon her? Was this truly the same Saskia he once knew?

She reached for his sleeve, but Ryder stepped back, avoiding her touch.

"Do you hate me that much after what happened?" Saskia asked with a bitter smile. When Ryder remained silent, she pressed on. "Have you thought about me at all since we broke up?"

Still no response.

"Say something, please!" Her voice grew desperate. "If I told you I still have feelings for you, would you be with me again? Like before?"

Ryder finally spoke. "Saskia, do you have a twin sister?"

"What?" The question caught her off guard.

She smiled sadly. "I know I mocked you at the train station, but I didn't mean it! Just like three years ago—I never wanted to treat you that way."

"What do you mean?" Ryder narrowed his eyes.

"The threat that forced me away from you has been completely eliminated," Saskia explained. "So please, be with me again! You won't have to deliver packages anymore—I'll support you. I have two million dollars saved. I can take care of our family—you, me, and Mike—the three of us living happily together!"

Ryder could hardly believe what he was hearing. Saskia must have lost her mind.

Three years ago, these words might have affected him differently. Now, they left him completely unmoved.

"I'm sorry," he replied coldly. "I have a wife and I love her very much. Please sign for your package so I can leave."

Saskia persisted. "Is there any chance for us? Even the slightest possibility? I'm willing to try! I-I don't even mind that you're married!"

"Saskia, let me be clear: I will only ever love my wife. There is no possibility for us. None."

With Ryder's definitive statement, the light faded from Saskia's eyes. She seemed suddenly hollow, as if her spirit had been drained away.

"Fine. I'll sign for the package and give you the thousand dollars I promised."

"Keep your money. Just pay for the delivery."

"Ryder," her voice caught, "does it have to be this way between us?"

Ryder didn't answer. He simply handed her the receipt, professionally fulfilling his duty as a courier.

Saskia sniffled but said nothing more. She paid for the package.

As Ryder turned to leave, Saskia called after him.

"Ryder, about Mike—I've decided to give him away. I have something important to do, and I probably won't be able to care for him anymore. Would you... would you take him?"

"My wife probably doesn't like pets, so no thank you," Ryder replied, his tone distant and cold.

Saskia winced as if physically pained. "That's alright. Don't worry—I've already contacted a friend who loves animals. She'll take good care of our Mike."

Ryder didn't respond, heading straight for the door.

But Saskia called out once more, "Wait! There's a college reunion tonight. Would you like to attend?"

"I'm not interested in social gatherings," Ryder refused immediately.

"Ryder!" Frustration edged into her voice. "I'm trying to help you. You can't deliver packages forever, can you?"

"Remember your college buddy Zane? He's doing incredibly well now—already a department manager at Passion Logistics Management Company headquarters. If you network with him, he might get you a decent position! With your talent, you could even surpass him eventually!"

Zane Martin?

Ryder's expression shifted slightly at the mention of that name.

Zane had indeed been his college friend. But he was also deeply insincere. When Ryder's father fell seriously ill and his girlfriend left him—when he hit rock bottom—Zane was the first to distance himself.

Now Saskia wanted him to beg Zane for help? Absurd.

"No thanks."

"Ryder, you can't be so proud!" Saskia lectured him. "You need to humble yourself and build connections. That's reality—you have to accept it! If you can't be adaptable and play the game, you'll be stuck at the bottom of society forever."

The only response was the sound of the door closing.

Ryder had left.

Going down was much easier than climbing up. Ryder quickly reached the ground floor and headed back to the delivery station.

As he walked, he reflected on his history with Saskia.

They had fundamentally different values. Sarah would never tell him to compromise his principles or flatter people for advancement. Sarah wanted a man of integrity and strength.

And that's exactly the kind of man Ryder intended to be.

The contrast couldn't be clearer.

Ryder had two priorities now:

First, build his strength and investigate his father John's death.

Second, cherish his beautiful wife and their marriage.

Everything else? He had neither time nor energy for it. No interest whatsoever. In fact, he found such matters distasteful.

For now, he needed to report back to the delivery station and complete today's work.

After finishing his duties, Ryder left the station around eight o'clock.

Just then, his phone rang. He assumed it would be someone urging him to come home, but the caller ID surprised him.

Donna?

Why would she call him suddenly?

Answering, he heard Donna get straight to the point: "Ryder, did you know there's a college reunion tonight at the Phoenix Grand Hotel? Many classmates are going. Should we attend?"

Was this the same reunion Saskia had mentioned?

"Ryder, please! I really want to go," Donna pleaded earnestly. "Would you accompany me? I have this feeling that something strange might happen there tonight!"

Her sincerity was unmistakable. She genuinely wanted to attend.
