Chapter 411 Sam Bolted

The next morning, after scarfing down breakfast, Ryder plopped on the couch, flipping through channels with the Houston morning news blaring in the background.

The big headline? A murder at Houston Manor: Mark and his wife were found dead in their bedroom. Cops thought Mark offed himself, and his wife suffocated after her ventilator got yanked. No foul play. Oh, and a young woman's body was found in the basement. They were still figuring that one out, and the place was on lockdown.

Ryder already had the gist of it and knew some details would stay under wraps.

Next to him, Sarah sighed, looking all kinds of sad.

She never thought Yves would stab them in the back.

In the end, Yves got a pretty raw deal.

Yves worked for her company, and this was the last thing she wanted.

Ryder wrapped an arm around Sarah's shoulder, trying to cheer her up. "Hey, this ain't on you. Don't beat yourself up! Everyone's gotta face the music for their choices. Plus, you gave Yves' family $500,000. That's more than enough! Right now, you gotta take care of yourself and not stress me out!"

"Okay," Sarah nodded, leaning her head on Ryder's shoulder.

She'd caught a cold from getting soaked in the basement yesterday and still felt a bit woozy.

Suddenly, Sarah remembered something.

She asked Ryder, "You don't think I'm being too soft, do you?"

"Huh? What do you mean?"

Sarah said, "Yesterday, I agreed to save Sandra. Even after all the crap she pulled, I still chose to save her. I'm worried you might be mad about it."

Ryder gently pinched Sarah's cheek and said softly, "Don't sweat it! I've always loved your big heart and get where you're coming from. Besides, Sandra's the one who messed up. If I were mad, it'd be at her, not you!"

Sarah felt a warm fuzzy feeling inside.

She looked up and said, "Ryder."

Ryder lowered his head to meet her gaze.

Their faces were super close, and they could feel each other's breath!

Plus, Sarah's cheeks were all rosy from the cold, making her look extra cute.

Seeing this made Ryder feel a bit hot under the collar!

He thought about how Sarah had been under the weather since yesterday, so he hadn't made a move.

But now, a little something should be okay, right?

Just as Ryder was about to lean in, a cough came from upstairs!

Looking up, he saw Barbara slowly coming down the stairs.

She smirked and said, "Tsk tsk! Getting all lovey-dovey so early in the morning!"

Seeing Barbara, Sarah looked embarrassed and quickly got up from Ryder.

She stammered nervously, "Barbara, you're up."

Even though Sarah was a boss lady at work, she was still a traditional gal.

Getting caught being all cozy with Ryder made her feel shy!

Ryder, getting cut off, was naturally a bit ticked. He shot Barbara a look and said, "If you got nothing better to do, why don't you head back to bed?"

Barbara glared back. "Ryder, what's your deal? Mad 'cause I interrupted your little moment?"

Ryder crossed his legs. "Didn't say that!"

"You..." Barbara was fuming.

Seeing this, Sarah quickly stepped in. "You two, seriously, every time? Grow up!"

Barbara came down the stairs, plopped next to Sarah, and clung to her arm, acting all cutesy. "Sarah, it's not my fault. Ryder was getting all handsy on you, and I couldn't just watch!"

Ryder rolled his eyes. "Cut the crap. When did I ever take advantage of anyone? Besides, Sarah and I are married; we can do whatever we want!"

Barbara sneaked a glance at Ryder and pouted. "Hmph! Don't bother explaining. All you guys are the same!"

Just as Ryder was about to fire back, his phone buzzed.

It was George calling!

He picked up.

George's anxious voice came through. "Mr. Clark, we got a problem!"

"What now?"

George replied, "Sam bolted!"

Ryder frowned. "What happened?"

George explained, "We had Sam locked up in a warehouse at Polka Bar on the outskirts. It's usually for storing booze, and we had a few guys watching him. But this morning, we got a call saying a group busted in last night, beat up our guys, and took Sam! I just got here with some men, and there's not much to go on. They even cut the surveillance, so no footage! Mr. Clark, I'm sorry, it's all on me..."

Ryder reassured him, "Don't sweat it! I share the blame. Didn't think anyone would go this far to bust him out! Right now, focus on the injured!"

"Got it!"

After hanging up, Ryder's eyes narrowed, his gaze turning icy.

Sam had been sprung!

Since the Davis family got wiped out yesterday, George was now the top dog in Houston.

No one could challenge him!

But now, someone had the guts to hit George's warehouse, beat his men, and snatch Sam!

Hard to believe anyone in Houston could pull that off!

The timing was perfect.

Right after Ryder took down Mark and was just starting to relax, at his most vulnerable!

Ryder thought, 'Looks like this ain't over yet!'

He had a gut feeling that the next time he crossed paths with Sam, it was gonna be a headache!

Just then, the door swung open.

Rex poked his head in and grinned. "Ryder, the car's ready. When we heading out?"

Ryder stood up, stretched, and smiled with anticipation. "Right now!"

He turned to Sarah, "Let's roll!"

Sarah nodded.

For some reason, she felt both nervous and excited.

Today, Ryder's sister Ava was flying back from abroad, so they were off to the airport to pick her up.
