Chapter 207 Lose Money

On a street corner in Houston, Grandma Johnson looked at the damaged Rolls-Royce that had been rear-ended and then at the black Volkswagen sedan with its crumpled front.
Her expression was stern. It felt like the temperature around them had dropped.
The Johnson family members who were standing nearby all nervously wiped their sweat away.
They knew Grandma Johnson was really angry.
After a few seconds of silence, she suddenly raised her hand and slapped Ernest hard in the face.
It was a clear, crisp sound. It could probably be heard from over ten miles away.
"Did you do this on purpose? Are you planning to bring shame to the Johnson family?"
Grandma Johnson spat at Ernest's face in anger.
Ernest felt wronged and bitterly explained, " I wasn't the one driving, Mom, it had nothing to do with me. Dominic was driving, so why..."
Before he could finish speaking, Karen quickly interjected, "You're still trying to shift the blame onto someone else right now. You’re the owner of the car, so why didn't you drive yourself? Why did you let Dominic drive? If you hadn't let him drive, this wouldn’t have happened."
Ernest couldn't say a word as he choked. Her younger brother, Dominic, had eagerly wanted to drive, and as his older sister, she had supported it in every way. And now that something had gone wrong, she was blaming him.
Of course, he could only think those thoughts in his mind; he had to lower his head and accept the blame. After all, he was used to it.
Grandma Johnson glared and gritted her teeth as she said, "I don't care who was driving. This was supposed to be a happy housewarming day for the Johnson family. You’ve caused trouble and deliberately tried to upset me. If it doesn't work out, you can all go back to where you came from. We don't welcome troublemakers like you at our housewarming banquet."
Karen's face turned pale. She couldn't afford to lose the opportunity to attend the housewarming banquet. Even though there were many people surrounding them at that moment, she had to muster up her courage and negotiate. "Mom. Please calm down. This really was an accident. We promised to go as a family. How could we not go now?
"I beg you, give us one more chance. In the future, we’ll do whatever it takes to repay you." Grandma Johnson didn't want to show Karen any respect, but Matthew whispered in her ear, "Mom. She still has some value to us. Let's give them one more chance. Being angry will harm your body; we don’t have much time, and many people are watching. It won't be good to delay."
Grandma Johnson sighed and then scolded Karen with a bad attitude. "Fine, I’ll give you one last chance. Find your own way to the Platan Height Villa. And you’ll pay for the damage to the wedding company's Rolls-Royce yourself. This has nothing to do with the Johnson family."
After saying that, Grandma Johnson and the rest of the core members of the Johnson family squeezed into the remaining two Rolls-Royce cars and left.
As Karen watched the two cars disappear, she felt a burning anger in her heart. She couldn't help but kick Ernest hard on the buttocks and say, "This is all your fault, useless man. If you had any power or courage, things wouldn’t have turned out like this."
Ernest helplessly said, "What does this have to do with me? It was obviously your brother who was driving the car."
At this moment, Dominic quickly defended himself. "You can't say that. If it weren't for your car’s poor brakes, we would have never caught up and our whole family would have missed the housewarming banquet."
Ruth Reed also chimed in, saying, "Exactly. And now that the car’s wrecked, how are we going to get to the Platan Heights villa?"
Marlon, holding his stomach, muttered, "I'm hungry. I want chicken..."
Karen stared coldly at Ernest and said, "Figure out a way to get to the Platan Heights villa quickly, we can’t be late."
At this moment, Ernest felt extremely upset.
Even he felt pathetic.
He regretted agreeing without thinking when Karen was talking about divorce a few days ago.
Even if he had to live under a bridge and pick trash, it would be better than what he was going through right now.
Just then, the Rolls-Royce driver walked over and interrupted, "Excuse me, could you settle the damages for our company's Rolls-Royce?"
Karen instinctively asked, "How much?"
The driver replied, "Our manager said that the repair cost, including the labor cost and other expenses, amounts to one hundred thousand dollars. Could someone please pay?"
"One hundred thousand dollars?"
Karen widened her eyes in disbelief and shouted, "Why don't you just rob us? Do you really think we're stupid and rich?"
The driver confidently responded, “This is a fair price. If you don't believe it, you can always take legal action. But I can guarantee that you’ll definitely lose."
Karen was speechless.
They wanted her to pay one hundred thousand dollars?
The problem was, she couldn't afford it.
However, Dominic saw it differently.
He stepped forward, snorted coldly, and scolded the driver, "Who do you think you're talking to with that attitude? Did you even bother to find out who my sister is in Houston? We can give it to you in minutes. Why bother with legal threats? Who are you trying to scare?"
After he finished speaking, Dominic turned to Karen and said, "Give him the money quickly, send him away, and don't delay us from attending the housewarming banquet."
Karen's mouth twitched a few times unconsciously.
When she went back to her hometown, she often boasted about having a lot of money. But that didn't mean she actually had the ability to pay.
She couldn't bring herself to admit that she couldn't come up with the money when she saw the expectant gazes of Dominic and his family.
She coughed lightly to disguise her embarrassment and ask the driver, "When do you need the money?"
"Now."
"Right now?"
The driver nodded.
What on earth should they do now?
Karen was confused. Suddenly, she thought of something. She quickly walked away and called Sarah on her phone.
At the same time, Sarah, who was lying on the bed in a luxurious room at the Pint House, watching a drama, saw that Karen was calling. She was startled at first. Since the "private photo" incident, her mother hadn't called her. Could it be that she had just found out and was calling to show her concern? Sarah eagerly answered the call.
As she picked up, she heard Karen's annoyed tone on the other end. "I swear, you wouldn't care even if I died. I really don't know why I have a daughter like you."
Sarah was puzzled. "Mom. What happened?"
"Never mind what happened. Quickly transfer one hundred thousand dollars to me. If you don't give me the money within ten minutes, you can expect to see my corpse."
After saying that, Karen hung up.
