Chapter 22 Ryder Gets Slapped
Ryder coldly looked at Karen, standing still in his place!
"So you're really rebelling, not even listening to me anymore?" Karen moved to try to slap him.
"Mom, just forget it!" Susan stepped forward to intervene!
Reluctantly, Karen withdrew her hand. "Even hitting you would dirty my hand! Pah!"
She muttered and stormee through the gate with Ernest. Susan looked at Ryder with disappointment in her eyes, thinking that this must be her fate. To end up with such an incompetent man like Ryder.
"Don't just stand there, come in quickly!"
"Yes!"
Ryder could ignore others' words, but not Sarah's. After all, they were married... On top of that, Ryder indeed owed her too much. Watching Ryder step through the gate, Andy led the mocking by whistling, "What a useless cowardly turtle! He only knows how to hide behind women for an easy meal!"
Abigail also looked disdainful, "A woman like Sarah can only be matched with someone like Ryder!"
Laughter erupted from the crowd once again! Hearing these words, Ryder could see tears welling up in Sarah's eyes, and her body started to trembling slightly. Feeling Sarah's grievances, Ryder couldn't help but clench his fists. A cold determination rose in his chest, vowing to make these bastards who made Sarah suffer pay the price!
The Johnson family's mansion dining room was lively at the moment. The maids brought out plates of freshly cooked delicacies and placed them on the table. The members of the Johnson family sat around a large round dining table, chatting and laughing.
Matthew, Lawrence, and the older generation were discussing things like health, stock investments, and so on. Andy, Abigail, and the younger generation were talking about travel and shopping.
Only Ernest's family seemed out of place. After all, they didn't have the money to spend or participate in these topics. They could only sit awkwardly, keeping their heads down and staying silent.
Of course, the most out of place person present was Ryder. As an unwanted son-in-law of the Johnson family, he didn't have the privilege to eat at the main table!
He could only eat at a small table with the maids and chefs. Sometimes he had to stay in the kitchen to eat. In Andy's words, how dare he be picky?
Ryder had just sat down with the maids when Andy, as usual, started mocking, "Mr. Clark, I've always been curious where you got your thick skin from to be able to eat with our Johnson family. Isn't it all thanks to the hard work and contributions of those loyal to the family? You, who have no contributions to make, what entitles you to this meal?"
Ryder retorted with a sneer, "Who cares where I eat?"
"Damn it! Who do you think you're talking to with that attitude?" Andy pounded the table and shouted.
In his impression, Ryder used to be someone who couldn't say a word against him. Today was the first time he dared to challenge him in front of so many people!
"What are you gonna do about it?" Ryder nonchalantly replied.
Andy was furious, "Ryder! I think you're itching for trouble!"
Just as he was about to get up and charge at him, someone shouted, "Grandpa is here!"
Everyone hastily stood up and looked towards the entrance. Reluctantly, Andy stepped back, muttering under his breath and glaring at Ryder with resentment!
Grandpa Johnson walked in with a cane. Even in his seventies, he was well-maintained and slightly chubby, but his face was sharp and sour!
"Please, no need to be so formal, have a seat!" Everyone took their seats. Grandpa Johnson, with a gentle expression, asked Andy, "What were you arguing about earlier?"
Andy glanced at Ryder and replied, "That useless waste of space was talking back to me!"
"Oh? Is that so?" Grandpa Johnson's expression turned displeased, and he frowned as he said to Ryder, "Apologize to Andy!"
"He started it, so why should I apologize to him?" Ryder maintained his composure.
Grandpa Johnson coldly snorted, "Just because Andy is my eldest grandson, and you're nothing more than a worthless individual who married into the Johnson family, you must apologize!"
Facing Grandpa Johnson's biased instruction, Ryder remained silent. Seeing this, Andy added fuel to the fire, saying, "Someone's temper has been really flaring up lately, not even listening to Grandma's words!"
Abigail chimed in, "Haven't you heard? Dogs that bite don't bark. This Ryder is a pure hypocrite. Right now, he's just being disobedient, but I'm afraid he'll turn around and start bossing us around, making us do his bidding!"
The two of them echoed each other, and Grandpa Johnson's expression gradually darkened. He glared at Karen and said, "Take a look! Is this the good son-in-law you brought in?"
Karen trembled under Grandpa Johnson's gaze. Although she had a fierce and unreasonable personality, in front of Grandpa Johnson, she was like a mouse in front of a cat, naturally afraid.
"I'll teach him a lesson right away!" Karen got up, walked towards Ryder, and without a word, slapped him.
"You should be grateful to even have a bite to eat, you worthless piece of trash. Do you really think highly of yourself? Apologize to Grandma and Andy." Karen seethed.
A red handprint appeared on Ryder's face, and his dark eyes flickered with a cold light. He could have dodged this slap, but when Sarah cast him a disappointed and pleading gaze, Ryder hesitated. Sarah signaled for him to apologize. Taking a deep breath, Ryder mustered the will to apologize to Grandpa Johnson and Andy.
Grandpa Johnson coldly snorted and didn't bring it up again.
On the other hand, Andy seemed to have achieved an unprecedented victory. He provocatively looked at Ryder, saying, "Garbage is just garbage. Weren't you arrogant just now? You're just a puppet!"
Lunch began.
At the dining table, Abigail introduced Allan to Grandpa Johnson, saying, "Grandma, this is my new boyfriend Allan, the future heir of the Hall family in Houston!"
Allan stood up and greeted Grandpa Johnson!
On his face, Allan appeared satisfied and he said, 'I've heard about Mr. Hall's exceptional talents, and seeing him today confirms it. We should get along well with each other in the future, Abigail!'"
Allan smiled and replied, "Definitely!"
Abigail embraced Allan and proudly exclaimed, "Allan loves me vert much. Just yesterday, he gifted me something. It's so precious!"
Upon hearing this, everyone at the table became curious and asked Abigail to show them.
With an arrogant expression, Abigail took out a delicate box from her handbag and opened it, revealing a diamond necklace. She said, "This is what Allan gave me. Guess how much it cost? Two million dollars!"
Everyone gasped in astonishment. The fact that Allan was willing to give a two-million-dollar necklace demonstrated his wealth.
Grandpa Johnson also expressed his satisfaction and said with emotion, "My granddaughter is fortunate!"
However, at this moment, an untimely voice of doubt arose, "Huh? Why does this necklace look exactly the same as the one Sam gave my daughter?"
The person who spoke was Karen!
