Chapter 458 Heather's Will

Andy glanced at Heather, feeling like her wide-opened eyes were fixed on him, freaking him out a bit.

No matter how much he had prepped himself, no matter how tough he tried to be, this was his first time killing someone. Panic was inevitable.

So, nervously, he reached out to cover Heather's eyes. But as soon as he moved his hand away, her eyes popped open again.

Andy shivered and cautiously leaned in to see what was going on. Heather's body twitched, and she let out a breath.

This scared Andy so much that he plopped down on the floor.

He thought Heather wasn't dead and stammered, "Grandma, please... please don't be mad. It's all my... my fault. Please don't blame me!"

But Heather still didn't move. She was definitely dead. The breath she let out was merely a natural post-mortem response.

Andy let out a small sigh of relief. He wiped the sweat off his forehead, stood up, and quickly tidied up. He walked out of the ward and noticed the hallway was pretty empty. So, he made a run for it.

A few minutes later, Matthew came back, cursing under his breath, "Jeez, who the hell is that guy! So fast!"

He opened the door and walked into the ward. Seeing Heather's eyes open, he thought this was bad, but he still kept a respectful demeanor. "Mom! You're awake? I was so worried about you, afraid something might happen to you!"

Heather didn't respond.

Lawrence stepped closer. "Mom, can you hear me?"

As he spoke, Lawrence felt something was off. Heather's pupils were dilated, and she wasn't blinking. He glanced at the heart monitor next to the bed—a straight line.

She was dead? Lawrence was in shock. His first instinct was to call the nurse, but then he remembered something and stopped.

He thought for a few seconds before pulling out a piece of paper and a red ink pad from his pocket. He grabbed Heather's thumb, pressed it into the red ink, and then onto the paper.

Looking at the contents of the paper, a smug smile spread across his face.

The content of the paper was Heather's will, mainly entrusting all the assets and responsibilities of the Johnson family to Lawrence. The will stated that Lawrence had no criminal record, was talented, and could lead the Johnson family to better development.

In fact, he had prepared this will and ink pad a long time ago, just waiting for the day Heather suddenly died, so he could leave this crucial will unnoticed.

Though he had prepared all these, he never really had much hope. After all, Heather was relatively healthy, and it was tricky to complete this when no one else was around. But today, all the conditions were just right.

Initially, he planned to pull out the oxygen tube to kill Heather and complete this task, but she suddenly died first. He couldn't miss such a golden opportunity.

After making sure everything was in place, Lawrence glanced around the bed. Seeing nothing unusual, he called the nurse.

Lawrence pinched his inner thigh hard, causing tears to flow immediately. He knelt in front of the bed, wailing, "How could you leave me like this? How am I supposed to live, Mom?"

In less than a minute, the on-duty nurse arrived, shocked to see Heather suddenly dead.

Even though she knew Heather's condition wasn't great, the nurse didn't expect her to die so suddenly. She was worried the Johnson family might cause trouble and blame the hospital.

But to her surprise, Lawrence said it wasn't the hospital's fault. He just wanted to get the death certificate and discharge papers quickly so they could go home and hold the funeral as soon as possible.

The nurse was more than happy to agree. She contacted the management to handle the follow-up.

After a while, the rest of the Johnson family arrived at the hospital. They were all a bit stunned. An hour ago, when they left, Heather wasn't in mortal danger. How did she suddenly die?

Of course, they weren't sad, just confused. But they had to put on a show.

So, they started acting. Some sat on the floor, slapping their thighs and crying. Some leaned against the wall, wailing. Some even pretended they couldn't catch their breath.

When it came to showing sadness, Lawrence and Matthew's wives were the best. They seemed to be competing with each other, afraid they wouldn't cry as sadly as the other.

This scene made the patients in the neighboring rooms and the hospital staff sigh. What a harmonious family! What a pity for Heather!

Sandra's eyes were red, and she choked as she asked Lawrence, "Lawrence, when Mom died, you were the only one by her side. What did she say?"

At that moment, Lawrence was still crying by the bedside. Facing Sandra's question, he choked out, "She asked me to write a will."

Did Heather leave a will? The Johnson family members were stunned and looked at Lawrence.

Lawrence calmly took out the "will" from his pocket and handed it to Sandra. "Sandra, this is the will Mom left. Take a look."

Sandra quickly took the will and read it. Her face gradually turned gloomy. She stared at Lawrence, questioning, "Is this will really be left by Mom?"

Lawrence nodded repeatedly, "Yes! After you all left, I went in to look after Mom. As she slowly regained consciousness, she felt near death and requested paper and pen to draft a will for the Johnson family. She dictated, and I wrote it down."

He paused to wipe his tears, then continued, "That's how this will was made. I'm not lying. This thumbprint was pressed by Mom! If you don't believe me, you can check Mom's finger. There's still ink on it!"

After he finished speaking, two people stepped forward to check and found that Heather's finger indeed had ink on it. This was really Heather's will.

However, Sandra obviously didn't believe it. She frowned and continued to ask, "She was so weak. How could she have the strength to dictate a will and press a thumbprint? And even died right after pressing a thumbprint."

Lawrence had considered this before, so he replied, "People have a burst of energy before they die. What's the problem?"

Sandra persisted, "Then why didn't you call us or the nurse as soon as she woke up?"

Lawrence said, "She didn't want to trouble everyone and told me not to call."

Sandra was at a loss for words, not knowing what to ask next. Lawrence breathed a sigh of relief. He thought the matter was almost settled.

At that moment, the ward door was pushed open. Everyone saw Andy walk in. And there were actually two police officers behind him.
