Chapter 274 Counterattack!
Chapter 274 Counterattack!
Seeing this, Blind was stunned for just half a second before he aimed at the approaching figure and pulled the trigger.
The figure was shot, falling into the bushes.
Blind sighed in relief and sneered, "Almost got fooled! Luckily, I reacted in time."
Muttering to himself, he walked over to the figure and bent down.
When he got a closer look, his face contorted.
The figure wasn't Ryder.
Instead, it was just a piece of clothing propped up by some branches. It was nighttime, and everything had happened so quickly. Blind hadn't seen clearly and mistook it for Ryder, shooting on the spot.
"Damn! I've been tricked!"
He immediately realized something was wrong and quickly got up. At that moment, a figure sprang out from the bushes. Ryder directly tackled Blind to the ground, the latter's shotgun in hand rolling to the side.
"It's you?!"
Blind's expression was panicked, instinctively trying to struggle to his feet. However, Ryder punched him in the nose. Blood gushed from his nostrils, tears streaming down his face.
"Fuck! Bastard, I'll kill you!"
He gritted his teeth and raised his arm to fight back.
The two of them wrestled in the bushes!
Ryder had the advantage in height and age, and he had attacked first.
Thus, Blind lost the fight after a while.
One of his eyes was swollen shut, a tooth was knocked out, and blood was dripping from the corner of his mouth.
He was in a miserable state!
"Damn it! I'll kill you!"
Blind was a killer himself. Although beaten to this state, he could still retaliate!
He targeted Ryder's waist injury and landed two punches.
The punches made Ryder gasp in pain, his forehead veins bulging as his body stiffened.
"Screw you!"
Taking the opportunity, Blind pushed Ryder off him!
After rolling twice, he hurriedly grabbed the shotgun on the ground and loaded it with ammunition.
His face twisted with rage as he shouted, "You piece of trash, I'll shoot you dead!"
Just as he was about to pull the trigger, he suddenly felt a heavy blow to the back of his head.
He reached back to touch his head, then looked at his blood-covered hand.
Trembling, he turned around.
He saw Barbara holding a thick and knobby stick, glaring at him fiercely!
"Bitch, I..."
He angrily reached out to grab er.h
However, she struck first, swinging the stick down on his forehead again. He fell down with one blow, blood foaming at his mouth and almost done for.
"Are you okay?"
Barbara threw the stick aside and quickly ran to Ryder, helping him up.
Ryder touched his waist and found that the treated wound from earlier had reopened and was bleeding again.
She hurriedly said, "I'll help you bandage it!"
As she spoke, she was about to tear off her remaining clothing. However, he raised his hand to stop her. "Don't rush; check on that guy first!"
"Okay!"
She turned around and checked Blind's breathing, lifting his eyelids to examine him. She said, "He's dead."
Ryder sighed.
In desperate situations, there was no choice but to fight for survival.
However, he was a bit curious and asked her, "Aren't you scared?"
Barbara shook her head. "No. When I was studying medicine abroad, I saw a lot of corpses; I'm used to it. Moreover, I've also studied dissection and killed lab mice, but this is the first time I've killed a person."
Ryder's mouth twitched, but he didn't say much about it.
After that, she searched Blind's body.
From his backpack, they found bottled water, food, and more importantly, gauze and antibiotics!
It was clear these were Blind's personal supplies.
Now that he was dead, they naturally belonged to Ryder and Barbara.
Barbara used the antibiotics and gauze to fix up Ryder's wound.
On the other hand, Ryder packed up Blind's shotgun and bullets.
As dawn was breaking, the two continued on their way.
Barbara marveled along the way. "How does your brain work? I suddenly realized how smart you are, coming up with a plan to deal with that guy in such a short time. I thought we would've died here!"
Ryder smiled faintly and didn't answer. She continued asking, "Your wolf howl was so realistic, just like the ones on TV. How did you practice that? Moreover, you took the shotgun. Do you even know how to use it?"
Faced with a barrage of questions, he replied, "I learned hunting before, so I can use a gun."
"Really?"
Her face was full of anticipation. "Tell me more!"
He replied calmly, "If we survive, we can do that later. For now, talk less and save your energy."
She pouted and muttered, "You probably don't know how and just said that to make yourself look impressive."
Ryder didn't argue, but a look of reminiscence flashed in his eyes.
Back in the day, he and John were expelled from the capital city by the Jones family and returned to the village, where they lived a hard life.
At that time, he had a neighbor; an old man nearly eighty years old!
Ryder didn't know his name, and others only called him Dragon.
He heard from the villagers that Dragon had participated in the war and had many skills.
His marksmanship was particularly accurate. After retiring, he farmed at home and occasionally went hunting in the mountains.
There were rumors that right after the war, the village was frequently attacked by wolves coming down the mountain to eat sheep and injure people.
Dragon, armed with just a gun, ambushed and killed the entire wolf pack at night.
Since then, no wolf packs dared to approach the village.
Despite that, Ryder couldn't verify the truth of the matter.
At that time, John had a very good relationship with Dragon.
Ryder often saw them secretly discussing things. However, he didn't pay much attention to it as a child, only hoping to go hunting with Dragon.
In fact, Dragon did take Ryder hunting many times.
Setting traps, shooting a gun, mimicking animal calls, and so on!
Ryder learned all these skills from Dragon.
He continued learning until he went to high school in the city at 16, when Dragon's family suddenly moved away.
Now, nearly ten years had passed with no news of him.
If he were still alive, he'd be over ninety years old.
On the other hand, Sawyer's team found Blind's body in a bush. Around five in the morning, they heard gunshots in the distance. Sawyer initially thought Blind had found Ryder and killed him, so they hurried over in excitement. However, he didn't expect this result at all. It was baffling! They couldn't imagine how the injured Ryder, with a woman, managed to kill Blind, who had a shotgun!
Looking at Blind's somewhat tragic death, Virgil nervously asked Sawyer, "Sawyer, Ryder is much tougher than we thought. What do we do next?"
Sawyer's eye twitched, gritting his teeth. "Even if I have to dig three feet deep, I will find him! No one leaves until we do!"
