Chapter 149 Aaron Gets Beaten Up!
The next morning, Ryder and Sarah checked out of the hotel. Both Ryder and Sarah left the small inn feeling stiff from the hard mattress. The culprit for their discomfort was the hotel's unforgiving mattress.
Although their relationship had improved and deepened, Sarah didn't have as much time and energy to be affectionate with Ryder at the moment. After all, the company was facing a lot of problems. Her phone was flooded with missed calls and messages about severing ties with SR Group or demanding compensation.
Sarah feared the company couldn't survive this crisis. She felt guilty and self-blameful, considering that she had taken over the company less than a week ago and had already brought it to the brink of bankruptcy. The feeling of guilt and self-blame began to surge within her.
Ryder consoled her, saying, "The outcome is still uncertain until everything is settled in the end. Whether we win or lose is yet to be known!"
Seeing Ryder's confident expression, Sarah's heart eased a little.
Pretty confused, Sarah asked him, "Do you have any ideas to help my company get out of this predicament?"
Ryder chuckled and teased, "Didn't someone say confidently yesterday that they didn't need my help? What changed now?"
Before he could finish his sentence, Sarah's face changed slightly, and she punched Ryder in the chest, angrily saying, "Yesterday was yesterday! Now is now! Just tell me any ideas quickly, I'm getting desperate!"
Ryder knew Sarah was emotionally unstable, so he toned down the joking.
Leaning closer to Sarah's ear, he said, "I can tell you, but before that..." The rest of his words slowly entered Sarah's ears. Sarah grew more and more surprised as she listened.
Meanwhile, Aaron had a good night's sleep. After venting his frustration by getting into a fight with Jaxon earlier, Aaron felt his anger subside. At night, he managed to transfer $30,000 to his online friend Lighting.
Lighting was very happy and they chatted late into the night. They even sent each other several selfies. As a man, Aaron felt a great sense of accomplishment. He believed that it wouldn't be long before Lighting fully accepted him. Then they could agree to video calls and even meet in private.
With a pleasant mood, Aaron went downstairs. Today, he planned to take the red-haired man and a few other friends to visit SR Group. After all, he had promised them that he would arrange supervisory positions for them in the company and be their little leader.
He had to keep that promise. As for SR Group, he hadn't informed them in advance at all. The whole company belonged to his sister, which meant it belonged to their family, and what belonged to their family belonged to him. It was his company, so who would dare to say anything?
Although he was well aware that SR Group was currently in a precarious situation, so what?
According to his mom, all of this was his sister's incompetence in managing the company. What did that have to do with him?
If he became the president himself, he would surely solve the problems at hand. After all, he was so talented. Soon, after going downstairs, he bumped into the red-haired man and the others.
But just as they were about to leave the residential area and pass by an alley, three vans suddenly stopped by the roadside. About seventeen or eighteen construction workers got out of the vans. Some of them were holding wrenches, some had shovels, and two were carrying bricks. Their expressions were unfriendly.
They blocked Aaron and his friends' path. Seeing this, the red-haired man raised an eyebrow and scolded, "Hey! Have you guys lost your minds? How dare you stop Aaron? Get out of the way!"
The construction workers remained unmoved. Suddenly, a burly figure walked out of the group.
The construction worker, with a calm voice, asked, "Which one is Aaron?"
Aaron stepped forward, pinched his nose, and replied with a slightly disdainful and impatient manner, "That's me, what's up?"
"It was you who fought our boss, right?"
Aaron paused for a moment and then recalled, "Oh! I remember now. It's that cripple! Yes, I'm the one who fought him. So what?"
The reason Aaron dared to answer so arrogantly was twofold. Firstly, the redhead and the others were by his side, so he had to show some toughness. Secondly, these construction workers may seem formidable, but what of it? They were just a bunch of poor people. How could they dare to be rude to him?
However, what Aaron didn't expect was that the construction worker's gaze suddenly froze, and he raised his hand, ordering the other construction workers behind him, "Guys, get him! Let's avenge Mr. Jaxon!"
Upon hearing this, the construction workers immediately gathered around and grabbed whatever they had in their hands, ready to attack!
This action startled Aaron!
Damn, they meant business!
He quickly waved his hands and said, "Wait a minute! Wait a minute! Let's discuss this. It's not good to resort to violence in public!"
The construction worker spat on the ground and retorted, "Discuss what? Did you discuss it when you hit Mr. Jaxon? He's still lying in the hospital! We didn't come here for anything else but to put you in the hospital as well!"
Seeing the construction workers glaring at him with bloodshot eyes, even Aaron, who was usually arrogant, felt a bit scared!
There were seventeen or eighteen of them against their group of five. They were no match for them.
Wait a minute!
Suddenly, Aaron realized something.
He looked around and found that the redhead and the others had somehow left without them noticing!
He turned to look in the direction behind them and saw that they were already fifty or sixty meters away!
The redhead shouted, "Aaron, I just remembered that I need to help my mom dry the blankets today. I'll come to the company with you another day!"
Following that, they disappeared in the blink of an eye.
Aaron sarcastically grumbled, "A bunch of ungrateful bastards, they didn't even bother helping me..."
Feeling nervous, Aaron swallowed hard and tried to reason, "Ahem! This is all a misunderstanding. How about we just let it go?"
The construction worker stared, "Let it go after beating someone up? Who talks like that?"
Aaron put on with a mournful expression and said, "None of this has anything to do with me... It's all my sister's fault! By the way, let's just forget about this, alright?"
"It was my sister who told me to hit him! Actually, I'm also a victim, helpless!" Aaron thought blaming his sister would save him.
However, the man waved his hand and said, "I don't care about that. Whoever started it, we'll beat them up! As for your sister, she still hasn't compensated our boss for the medical expenses. We'll settle that account sooner or later!"
With those words, the construction worker slapped Aaron to the ground with one hand. Immediately after, the rest of the construction workers behind him rushed forward, launching a storm of punches and kicks.
"Ah!!"
The sound of miserable screams echoed at the mouth of the alley.
