Chapter 602 Complete Victory Over the Young Family?
For the next couple of weeks, Ryder threw himself into his work.
His hard work paid off. The GoldenEagle app totally crushed the Young family's Treasure Hunt app.
Maple Group had a big meeting.
At the meeting, the execs, led by Francis and Eli, owned up to their bet with Ryder.
They agreed to do three months of training at the grassroots level!
Brent, who just joined the Maple Group board, got the short end of the stick.
He wasn't part of the original bet, but now had to do the three months of training too!
Brent shrugged with a wry smile. "Well, Passion Logistics Management Company needs couriers, I'll sign up for that! But Ryder, you won the bet, but you're an exec too, shouldn't you join us?"
Ryder gave a thumbs up. "Absolutely! No exceptions! I'm in!"
At the end of the meeting, Ryder brought up another point. "Also, our GoldenEagle app's success is not just about product quality, but our killer logistics supply chain! Since we're short on couriers, let's send some promising new hires to the grassroots level for experience."
"Sounds good!"
The execs all agreed.
Of course, only they knew about the bet.
If their identities got out, there'd be more penalties.
So they usually chose to go to different departments instead of their own.
This was actually better, as it helped spot issues within the company.
This was the first time the execs collectively accepted punishment, and they were all grinning.
They were really looking forward to the grassroots experience!
But, while some were happy, others were not.
The Young Group had a high-level meeting too.
But their execs, including Tyler, got chewed out by Chairman Constantine.
"Finance team, what's the deal? Didn't you say you had a good talk with the bank? You claim to be competent, but all you do is count your own expenses! If you can't secure the loan from Aurora City Commercial Investment Bank, you might as well quit and go home!"
"And you, tech team, both merchants and consumers are complaining about order delays and interface issues! Don't tell me it's because our Treasure Hunt app is too big and you can't find and fix the bugs quickly! I gave you a team of two hundred people, if they're just eating and not working, they can all get lost!"
"Where's the PR manager? On leave? HR, make a note and fire them! Look at the mess they've made, taking leave at such a critical time, and the Ken incident hasn't been resolved! And what about contacting the logistics companies? Only two or three are willing to work with us now, we have products to sell but no one to deliver them, what are you all doing?"
Basically, except for Constantine's personal secretary team, all other department heads got an earful. The execs had no choice but to take the heat quietly.
After the meeting wrapped up, everyone left, except for Tyler and his dad, Constantine.
"Dad, have some water to soothe your throat," Tyler offered.
Constantine waved his hand and knocked over the warm water Tyler handed him. "I didn't call you out in the meeting, but how's that important task I gave you coming along?"
"Almost done, Dad!"
Constantine slammed the table. "Every time I ask, you say it's almost done! Are you waiting until I'm six feet under before you bring Barbara into our family?"
Tyler looked a bit troubled. "Dad, you know Barbara lost her memory. She needs time to accept me."
"It's not as complicated as you make it! For a woman, if you force her, she'll follow you!"
Tyler nodded. "Alright! Don't worry, Dad, I'll do it tonight!"
"You better! Ideally, we can have the wedding tomorrow! Remember, Anna from the Jones family in Capital City promised us that if you marry Barbara, she'd give us a check with the Jones family name on it! The check isn't the big deal, it's the Jones family name!"
Tyler responded, "I get it! In the eyes of outsiders, we'll be under the Jones family's protection! Then they'll be begging us, the Young family, to do business with them!"
"Good! Go! Find a fancy restaurant, make it romantic, and have Barbara fall for you!"
Tyler suggested, "No problem, how about the Skyline Revolving Restaurant in Aurora City?"
"Perfect!"
With his dad's approval, Tyler called Barbara and invited her to dinner tonight. Barbara said she wasn't feeling well and declined. But Tyler kept pushing, and she finally agreed.
So, Tyler dropped five million bucks to book the Skyline Revolving Restaurant for tonight.
"Huh? What, you'll be here in an hour? Didn't you say you'd come in a couple of days?"
"No, it's just a pleasant surprise! Don't worry, I'll pick you up soon!"
"I've been wanting to take you to the Skyline Revolving Restaurant, just in time to celebrate tonight!"
Sarah was coming to Aurora City! She was on her way now!
Ryder was both shocked and thrilled.
Earlier in the afternoon, Ryder, Rex, and Brent went to Passion Logistics Management Company to apply for courier jobs.
Seeing the three young and energetic guys, and given the urgent need for couriers, HR interviewed them, got some basic info, and then asked them to complete the onboarding procedures. They were told they could start work tomorrow.
Ryder, Rex, and Brent signed the labor contracts and promised to start work officially tomorrow.
To celebrate their successful applications, the three decided to go for barbecue!
Just as they started, Ryder got a video call from Sarah.
On the other end of the video, he could hear train engine noise, crowd chatter, and broadcast announcements. She was really on the train, heading to Aurora City!
