Chapter 595 Pregnant?
Karen kept quiet at first, trying to dodge the whole thing. But once they hit the hospital parking lot and hopped into the Porsche they snagged from Ryder, it was just Kyle and his mom, Karen, in the car.
Kyle didn't hold back, straight-up asking, "Mom, was the baby you aborted Gabriel's?"
Karen's eyes went wide. "Oh my God! How did you know?"
Kyle frowned. "Jasmine accused you of messing around with her man earlier. I thought she was just being paranoid. Mom, how am I supposed to face Lisa and her family now?"
Karen felt pretty wronged herself. She started sobbing, "Kyle, I didn't mean for this to happen! Life with the Moore family was rough, and I thought if I could get on Gabriel's good side, things would get easier for us. But Gabriel turned out to be even more spineless than your real dad, and Jasmine calls all the shots in the family business! I didn't expect to get pregnant from just one time a month ago!"
Kyle sighed. "Good thing you had the abortion. If the Moore family found out, it would've been a huge mess! Mom, stay out of trouble from now on. I booked a hotel room for you. Rest there for a month, and I'll tell the Moore family you went back to Houston."
"Okay, you're the best."
Karen suddenly thought about running into Ryder earlier and worried he might spill the beans to the Moore family.
Gabriel and Jasmine were meeting Ryder soon to discuss a deal with Maple Group, and if Ryder mentioned it, Jasmine would lose it.
Kyle was worried too. They decided to call Sarah.
When Ryder got home, he had just settled Barbara when he got a video call from his wife, Sarah. He answered, and there she was, looking stunning on the screen.
Ryder couldn't help but feel a bit lustful, eager to hug her.
Sarah blushed. "Hey! What are you staring at?"
"Big!" Ryder's eyes widened.
Sarah was taken aback. "Huh? What's big?"
Ryder kept staring. "Everything is big!"
Sarah glared. "So you mean my face is big?"
Ryder hurriedly explained, "No, I meant your chest is big!"
"Ryder, you pervert!" Sarah quickly crossed her arms over her chest, then put her hands down. "I'm wearing a high-necked shirt. How could you see that? You're just talking nonsense!" She rolled her eyes.
"I imagined it!"
"Let's not talk about this. How's Barbara doing?"
"Rex and I brought her home from the hospital. Physically, she's fine, but her mind's a bit off."
"Well, it's good she's home. Hospitals aren't great for long stays."
"That's what I thought too!"
Ryder knew he and Sarah weren't head-over-heels in love yet, and Sarah was pretty introverted. So, he answered her questions honestly.
He decided not to tell her about Barbara and Tyler's situation to avoid worrying her.
"By the way, Ryder, did you run into my mom at the hospital today?" Sarah asked.
Ryder's expression turned serious. "Did they contact you?"
"Yeah, they just called me."
Sarah then filled Ryder in on her conversation with Karen and Kyle. In her story, Karen had been raped when she first arrived in Aurora City and was now full of regret. She told Sarah she had an abortion, which she claimed would shorten her life by ten years, and begged for forgiveness.
Ryder was shocked. "Did you forgive her? How much of what she said do you think is true?"
"Ryder, what do you mean by that? Are you questioning me? Do you think I can't tell right from wrong? After everything Karen did to us, how could I just forgive her? At most, if they leave us alone, we won't bother them either!"
Sarah knew Ryder didn't mean anything by it, but his sudden harsh tone made her uncomfortable, so she snapped back.
Ryder was stunned but quickly relaxed. "Don't be mad, my tone was off! I didn't mean anything by it. I'm just worried you'll get hurt again, and that would break my heart! By the way, is your stomach still hurting? Did you get the medicine I sent you? Have you taken it?"
Sarah's anger melted away, and she pouted. "I told you about my mom because I know they must have done something terrible. She also asked me to tell you not to mention her abortion to anyone, especially not the Moore family! I even suspect the baby was someone from the Moore family!"
"Maybe that's the whole picture!" Ryder praised.
"Forget it, these things have nothing to do with me! I'll take some medicine and get some sleep!"
"Don't think too much! Don't worry, I've got everything covered!"
Sarah hung up the phone, still a bit huffy.
Ryder put away his phone and sighed. When he turned around, he locked eyes with Barbara and Rex, who were standing not far away, which startled him. Barbara was glaring at him with venomous eyes.
She gritted her teeth. "Ryder, were you just video calling Sarah?"
Ryder nodded. He had just dealt with Sarah, and now he had to face another difficult woman.
Barbara was fuming. "Ryder, what kind of spell did you cast on Sarah? How did she become a different person in front of you? That's not the Sarah I know! Give me back the original Sarah!"
Seeing Ryder nod, Barbara got even more furious. She walked towards him, raising her hand to slap him!
