Chapter 468 Dinner!

At the dining table, there were ten people seated, with six of them being Lily's relatives.

As soon as everyone settled in, Lily's grandmother, Betty Anderson, was the first to speak up. She looked at Lily and asked, "Lily, is this your boyfriend?"

Lily nodded. "Yep, this is Ryder!"

The relatives all turned their attention to Ryder, sizing him up.

None of them looked particularly thrilled.

To them, Ryder didn't seem like anything special.

Mia noticed the awkwardness and tried to break the ice. "This is Ryder, Lily's high school buddy. He's a supervisor at a real estate company in Houston, making fifty grand a year. He even bought a house and has a car! I think he's pretty impressive!"

Lily's aunt, Susan Garcia, smirked a bit and said, "Mia, fifty grand a year is pretty average in Houston. Can he really give Lily a stable and prosperous life with that kind of salary?"

Lily's younger aunt, Deborah Martin, jumped in, "Mia, Susan's right! Marriage is a significant milestone in life, and we need to consider everything seriously!"

Mia was left speechless for a moment.

Lily felt a bit upset and pouted. "I think Ryder is great. He's kind-hearted, reliable, and hardworking! He's not as bad as you think! Besides, this is my business, and I get to decide!"

Susan frowned. "Lily! How can you talk like that? We're just looking out for you."

Deborah added, "Exactly! We came here to see Betty and also to talk about your marriage!"

Susan continued, "You're still young and haven't experienced much. When it comes to marriage and relationships, you need us to help you think things through!"

They kept talking, making Lily quite exasperated!

These past few days, she had lost count of how many times they had nagged her about marriage!

No matter what they said, they always seemed to have a point!

And Mia, being simple and honest, rarely voiced her opinion!

Lily was about to lose her temper!

At that moment, Betty coughed and spoke with slight displeasure, "Enough! Let's discuss it while eating!"

Betty's words made everyone quiet down a bit.

Ryder, on the other hand, stayed calm the whole time, as if nothing had happened.

He glanced around at Lily's relatives.

From Lily, he learned that Susan's family and Deborah's family both lived in Jakarda City!

Susan's husband, Philip Martin, was the retired deputy station master of Jakarda City's train station, and Deborah's husband, Mario Torres, ran a sizable seafood supermarket.

In short, they were considered upper-middle-class in Jakarda City and quite well-off even by Houston standards.

Ryder knew that people like them were often the most hypocritical and arrogant.

"Ryder, come on, try it," Lily said, her face radiating with joy as she placed a piece of chicken on Ryder's plate.

Even though Lily knew she was putting on a bit of a show, she couldn't help but enjoy it, hoping it could turn into something real!

Just then, Lily's cousin, Luna Martin, chimed in, "Lily, you and Ryder seem pretty close! I always thought with your looks and smarts, you'd snag a rich guy, maybe even a big shot. What a shame."

Lily frowned slightly.

Luna exaggeratedly rubbed her belly and smirked, "I thought Ryder was some big deal, but it turns out..."

She then pulled out a branded handbag and took out an envelope with about five hundred bucks in it.

She handed it to Betty with a smile, "Grandma, this is for you."

Betty's eyes lit up at the sight!

Betty took the envelope, saying, "Luna, you're so considerate. You must work hard for it, right?"

Luna waved her hand, looking all generous, "Don't worry about it. Just take it! I can make it back in no time!"

Hearing this, Betty quickly nodded and kept the envelope.

She started praising Luna for being so successful.

It was clear these words were meant for Lily to hear.

Lily sat there, feeling a surge of frustration.

Over the years, she had visited Betty in the countryside regularly, always bringing gifts and some money for living expenses!

Even though it was small amounts each time, it added up over the years!

As for Luna, who lived close to Betty, she only visited once every two or three years!

Today was the first time she gave Betty money!

Betty's attitude naturally made Lily feel very unbalanced!

At this moment, Susan smiled and said, "Mom, this is just a small token from Luna! She's different from Lily. She recently started dating a new boyfriend, and he's quite exceptional!"

Betty immediately showed interest and asked, "What does he do for a living?"

Susan cleared her throat and raised her voice, saying, "He's a big deal among the younger crowd in Jakarda City. You know the largest seafood export company there, right? He's now the marketing manager, making two hundred grand a year!"

She took a glance at Lily and continued, "He's already promised Luna that by the end of the year, he'll buy a villa at the foot of Platan Height, the second-largest villa next to the ones on Platan Height! We'll definitely invite you all over then!"

Upon hearing this, Betty, Deborah, Mario, and the others all looked envious!

They kept praising Luna for having good taste and finding a good man!

Throughout all this, Lily remained expressionless, which made Luna frown slightly, thinking, 'Why is she still so calm?"

So, she squinted her eyes and continued, "My boyfriend will be here soon!"
