Chapter 482 You Are Not Worthy!
Ryder's words left Louis momentarily bewildered. He wondered, 'What? Why did he suddenly bring me into this?'
Louis was still reeling when he noticed Hubert's eyes lock onto him.
Hubert's gaze was fiercely intense as he lowered his voice and demanded, "Is it true you were going to set up a job for Mr. Clark?"
Louis was speechless, sweat dripping down his forehead.
His gut told him Hubert's attitude meant he was in deep trouble.
And boy, was he right.
Hubert's face darkened as he snapped, "Louis, I never knew you're so arrogant, daring to mess with Mr. Clark! Seriously, do you know Mr. Clark's identity?"
Louis instinctively shook his head, still in a daze.
Hubert slapped him across the face. "Mr. Clark is the new chairman of Maple Group as of today! The whole company got the email, didn't you see it?"
Louis was floored, completely dumbstruck.
Maple Group, the biggest company in Houston, had investments all over, including Jakarda City.
The trading company Louis worked for was just one of Maple Group's many subsidiaries.
And it was not even an important one.
In terms of status, Hubert was just a senior employee compared to Ryder, who could replace him anytime.
As for Louis, the gap was even bigger.
But wasn't the chairman of Maple Group the richest man in Houston, Scott? When did it switch to Ryder?
As this question hit him, he pulled out his phone and checked the company's email.
His eyes widened.
There it was, an email from Maple Group HQ sent earlier today, announcing Ryder as the new chairman, effective immediately.
The email even had Ryder's resume, which featured a few words—the former president of Maple Real Estate.
Seeing this, Louis couldn't help but twitch, his body starting to shake.
He remembered Ryder introducing himself earlier, saying he was a supervisor at Maple Real Estate. At the time, Louis had bragged about knowing the senior leaders there and offered to get Ryder a job.
Now, he felt utterly humiliated.
He deeply regretted it.
If he'd known Ryder's true identity, he would've been sucking up to him ages ago.
Hubert glared at Louis and declared, "From today on, you're fired. Go to HR later to complete your resignation."
Louis's legs went weak, and he nearly collapsed.
The worst had finally happened.
But he had no choice but to accept it.
If Louis dared to refuse, he wouldn't be able to stay in Jakarda City.
Plus, he'd secretly pocketed a lot of benefits over the years at the company.
If Hubert decided to dig into that, Louis would definitely end up in jail.
"Thanks for going easy on me!" Louis nodded respectfully and headed for the door of the private room.
As he passed by Luna, he couldn't resist kicking her and snarled, "This is all your fault! Just wait, I won't let you off!"
The kick sent Luna sprawling to the ground, right into the mess of fruit and beer from the earlier fight. Her butt was wet and sticky—totally gross.
She stared blankly ahead, her whole world turned upside down by the night's events.
She couldn't wrap her head around why everything had gone so wrong, why she felt like such a fool, or why the gap between her and Lily was growing wider. Was it all just fate?
Louis spat on Luna again before storming out of the room.
Compared to Louis, Lily's relatives were the ones truly shocked at that moment. To them, Ryder, who had seemed so ordinary and useless, turned out to be someone with a high status. The chairman of Maple Group was practically the richest man in Houston!
Thinking about becoming relatives with such a big shot, Lily's relatives instantly got excited. They all crowded around Ryder, plastering on flattering smiles.
"I knew from the first time I saw you that you were different. You're actually the chairman of Maple Group, so young and accomplished!"
"Really, we're going to be family from now on, so let's look out for each other!"
"We're relieved to have Lily with you!"
Lily was furious at their sudden change in attitude. She clenched her fists and snapped at them, "Do you have any dignity left? Have you forgotten how you criticized Ryder before? If I were you, I'd be too embarrassed to speak!"
But her relatives showed no shame and continued, "Lily, I understand how you feel, but what happened before was just a misunderstanding. Please don't mind it!"
"Exactly. With such a high status, Ryder wouldn't hold a grudge against us, right?"
"Besides, he's about to become part of our family. He won't mind these details, right, Ryder?"
Their attitude finally made Lily, who had been holding back her anger, snap. She stepped forward and shouted, "Let me tell you the truth, Ryder is not my boyfriend at all, but a married man! And you still dream of becoming family with him? You don't deserve it!"
This statement left her relatives, who had been basking in joy a second ago, stunned and speechless.
Mia turned and asked, "Lily, what did you say? Ryder isn't your boyfriend?"
Lily nodded. "Mom, I'm sorry. I don't want to go on blind dates, and in desperation, I asked Ryder to pretend to be my boyfriend. I didn't mean to deceive you!"
Mia smiled gently. "It's okay. I'm not in a hurry. As long as you find a man you can rely on and like, that's all that matters! Don't force yourself!"
Lily had just nodded when Deborah suddenly chimed in, "Since you have such a good relationship with Ryder, why not be his mistress to get benefits for us?"
