Chapter 440 Tyler's Covetousness Towards Sarah
Sarah, Barbara, Ava, Rex, Ryan, and the rest were all huddled on the couch, lost in their thoughts, the living room on the first floor dead silent.
The tension was thick enough to cut with a knife.
Sarah's eyes were red and puffy.
She'd found out last night that Ryder had been arrested. The cops had called her, saying Ryder might be mixed up in some drug stuff!
When Sarah heard that, she was floored.
She just couldn't wrap her head around it.
She'd known Ryder forever, knew what kind of guy he was, and there was no way he'd get into something so shady and wrong!
Rubbing her eyes, Sarah turned to Rex, "Rex, you've been with Ryder for ages. He must've been set up. Do you have any idea what's going on?"
Rex shook his head, "Sarah, I really don't know."
Sarah pressed on, "Then why weren't you with Ryder last night? I heard he even got into a fight with Tyler."
Rex replied softly, "After work, Ryder told me to head home. He said he had something to take care of. If I'd known something was up, I would've stayed with him!"
Sarah sighed, feeling helpless. She knew how loyal Rex was to Ryder.
Whatever Ryder asked, Rex would do it without question.
Barbara and Ava's eyes were red too.
They hadn't slept a wink all night.
Ava turned to Ryan, "Uncle Ryan, can't you do something to get Ryder out? He's a good guy; he wouldn't do anything bad. There has to be a mistake!"
Ryan scratched his head, looking pained. "I get it, but the charges are serious this time. I don't have the clout; even if there was a way, I couldn't pull it off."
Ava's eyes filled with tears.
She bit her lip, "I don't care; I have to get Ryder out."
She grabbed her phone and called Scott, but his phone was off again for the tenth time!
Ava started to cry.
Ryan looked at her, feeling awful.
After a moment, he said, "I think the first thing we need to do is see Ryder. He knows what's up, and we need to hear it from him."
Sarah stood up, looking determined. "No matter what, I believe Ryder's innocent. I'll find a way to see him!"
She pulled out her phone and started calling friends.
Twenty minutes later, she finally got a glimmer of hope from Vincent Butler, the manager at Houston Bank.
He said he could set up a meeting with Ryder at 2 PM today, but only she could go, and it would only be for five minutes!
Sarah thanked Vincent over and over.
Vincent also warned her that big changes were coming to Houston, and she should be ready for anything.
With Ryder caught up in this mess, even the best friends might not be able to help.
At 10 AM, Rex drove Sarah to the company.
Maple Real Estate was under investigation, putting many of SR Group's key partnerships on hold.
The company was a total mess!
When Sarah's car pulled up to the SR Group entrance, she spotted two people waiting for her.
It was Tyler and Viper!
Seeing them, Sarah's face immediately tightened.
She knew Ryder's trouble had to be connected to these two!
Tyler sauntered over, giving Sarah a once-over, and said with fake concern, "Haven't seen you for a day, Sarah. Why are your eyes all puffy? Who's been giving you a hard time? I can help you get back at them!"
Sarah snapped, "Don't think I don't know what you guys did. You won't get away with it!"
Tyler blinked, feigning innocence. "What are you talking about? I have no idea! I just heard your husband got taken to the police station. Such a shame. How could such a great guy do something so dumb? He really doesn't deserve you!"
Sarah shot back coldly, "None of your business. Move aside, you're in my way!"
Tyler kept pushing, "When did I ever hold you up? I'm here to talk business, okay? It's still the $200 million project from yesterday!"
Sarah said firmly, "I'll say it one last time—I'm not interested!"
With that, she marched towards the company.
Tyler tried to block her path, but Rex grabbed him by the collar.
Rex, with a stern look, said in a deep voice, "Stay away from Sarah!"
Tyler turned and saw Rex's imposing figure, and he instinctively gulped.
But with Viper backing him up, he sneered, "Let go of me!"
Rex calmly replied, "Stay away from Sarah, and I'll let go."
"Damn it, you idiot," Tyler cursed.
He swung his fist, aiming for Rex.
But Rex was quicker, catching Tyler's fist mid-air.
With a strong grip, Tyler immediately screamed in pain.
"Let go! It hurts so much," Tyler cried out.
Seeing this, Viper's eyes narrowed, and without a word, he aimed a kick at Rex's head.
Rex caught Viper's leg with his other hand!
Viper couldn't break free!
Then, Rex gave a fierce throw!
Both Tyler and Viper went flying!
Tyler hit the ground hard.
They both felt like their bodies were falling apart!
Viper, having some martial arts training, adjusted his posture mid-air and landed smoothly.
He glanced at his lower leg, already bruised in a circle.
This shocked him. Was this guy even human?
Tyler, feeling humiliated, got up, cursing, "You bastard, I'll kill you today!"
He urged Viper to attack again.
But Viper, lowering his voice, advised, "Don't act rashly. This guy's tough. We need a new plan."
"Coward!" Tyler angrily slapped Viper on the head but took his advice.
He knew with Rex around, all his provocations were useless.
Before leaving, he threatened Sarah, "Sarah, you can't hide. Believe it or not, it won't be long before you come to me for help! And when you do, you'll have to do whatever I say!"
