Chapter 398 He Will Become Ruthless!
Deborah's yell got everyone's heads turning!
Jeffery's eyes nearly popped out of his head!
Sure, the dude in front of him was a total freeloader living off his wife, but if he knew Jack, he was untouchable, a VIP he couldn't mess with!
Questioning Jack's judgment in public? Big mistake!
So, Jeffery hissed at Deborah, "Shut it! Mr. Clark is tight with Jack, and you've got no right to mouth off!"
Deborah, not backing down, shot back, "You've got it wrong. Ryder was my broke middle school buddy. He's a total loser. Why can't you trust me? You said you'd always have my back!"
"Shut up!" Jeffery, fuming, slapped Deborah across the face!
He pointed to the door and barked, "Get out! This ain't your business. Leave now!"
While yelling, he gave Deborah a sneaky look, telling her to scram!
If she stuck around, Jack would catch on to more of their mess.
Getting her out was the safest bet!
But Deborah, being kinda clueless, didn't catch Jeffery's drift.
Her head was spinning with anger and hurt!
She shoved Jeffery and cried, "Jeffery, are you even a man? You promised to treat me right and believe me, and now you slap me for a loser like Ryder! You wronged me first. Don't blame me for not respecting you. Right here, in front of your boss, I'm spilling all your dirty secrets! Remember? Six months ago, you embezzled $10,000 for your dad's birthday, and $1,000 to buy me a bag. Four months ago, you..."
Deborah went off, spilling all of Jeffery's dirty laundry!
At first, Jeffery tried to shut her up but failed.
Plus, Jack was eyeing him hard, so he gave up and just stood there, shaking.
If he'd known this airhead would blab, he'd never have bragged about his shady stuff to her!
Now, he was paying the price for his loose lips!
Deborah ranted for a solid four minutes!
The entrance of the clothing store was packed with customers and shop owners, all drawn in by the juicy drama!
During his time as marketing manager, Jeffery had embezzled, taken kickbacks, harassed female employees, cheated on his wife, abused his power, and more!
Jack's face got darker with every word.
He'd heard whispers about Jeffery's bad behavior but had looked the other way because Jeffery had been with him for years and seemed to work hard.
But he never thought it was this bad!
And now, Jeffery had pissed off Ryder, which was the last straw!
"Jeffery!" Jack's sudden shout made Jeffery's legs turn to jelly, almost making him collapse.
With tears streaming down his face, Jeffery begged, "Sir, I'm so sorry. I messed up big time. I swear I'll change. Please, give me another chance!"
Jack, cold as ice, shot back, "Save it! I've been good to you, but you did this to yourself. Time to face the music!"
He then turned to the head of security, "Take him to the cops. And the rest of you, write up a report and get it to me. If this happens again, you're all out!"
The security guards nodded and hauled Jeffery away.
Jack then asked the sales assistant what went down.
The store manager nearby was sweating bullets, regretting ever helping Jeffery.
After hearing the story, Jack nodded. After a moment, he said to the sales assistant, "You did great. It's rare to find someone who stands up for what's right. Our company needs folks like you. So, you're done working in this store. My secretary will take you to HR to get you set up. From now on, you're the new marketing manager of this mall. Do a good job!"
The sales assistant's eyes went wide with shock!
The store manager gasped!
In a flash, her subordinate had leapfrogged her to a way higher position!
"Am I qualified for the job?" the sales assistant asked, unsure.
Jack smiled, "I believe you are."
The sales assistant nodded hard, eyes tearing up. Today felt like a dream!
She knew none of this would've happened without Ryder.
So, she bowed deeply to Ryder to show her thanks.
Ryder waved it off with a smile, "You earned it!"
Then, Jack's secretary took the sales assistant to get her new job sorted.
As for Deborah, she had slipped away from the crowd at some point!
Ryder didn't care.
Dealing with people like her was a waste of time!
After that, Ryder helped Barbara buy the JK outfit and also got the sailor suit she liked!
When they went to pay, the store manager offered to comp the bill as a goodwill gesture!
But Ryder turned it down!
He wasn't a fan of the store manager!
When they were leaving the mall, Jack personally saw them out.
At the entrance, Ryder turned to Jack and smiled. "Jack, no need to see us off! I don't want to take up your time!"
Jack smiled back, "No trouble at all! I hope you won't hold today's events against us!"
Then, Jack's face got serious, "Mr. Clark, as a friend, I gotta warn you about something! I've heard a bit about your situation with Mark, and I respect your guts! But Mark's one of the slickest guys in Houston. I'm worried I might not be much help and could slow you down! No matter what, be extra careful, because when Mark's cornered, he gets nasty!"
