Chapter 391 I Know You Didn't Sleep!
Scott got all serious, "Yo, Mr. Clark's been flexing his muscles in Houston, and word's spreading. We might see some action soon!"
Ryan, who was all chill before, suddenly got a bit serious. He scoffed, "Let 'em come. Worst case, we throw down; I ain't scared of nothin'!"
Scott snapped back, "Dude, your life ain't the point; it's about keeping Mr. Clark safe, no matter what. He hasn't locked down his power yet, and now ain't the time to pick fights with the big shots in the capital. Keep your head down and stay sharp!"
Ryan rolled his eyes. "Yeah, yeah, I get it! Have I ever screwed up? Let's drop it."
He hung up, then fished out a cigar and a box of matches from his pocket.
The cigar was a little souvenir from the casino, and the matches were his go-to for lighting up.
He struck a match, a tiny flame flickering to life.
With a smooth move, he lit the cigar.
A quick flick of his fingers, and the half-burnt matchstick landed perfectly in the trash can, snuffed out!
He took a drag, smoke curling around him.
Ryan squinted, like he was lost in some old memory.
If someone caught a side view of him right then, there wasn't a hint of sleaze about him. Instead, he had this vibe of hard-earned authority.
After a while, he chuckled softly and muttered, "John, Mr. Clark really lucked out with his wife. Ha! He's got you beat there!"
Meanwhile, after a grilling from Sarah, Ryder finally spilled that the perfume on him was from Elena, who tried to seduce him, but he turned her down flat!
He had no choice but to pin it on Elena in this mess.
And to be fair, Elena did try to make a move on him at the Platan Height villa this morning.
When dealing with women, mixing lies with a bit of truth worked best, way more convincing than the whole truth!
Sarah pouted, clearly pissed, and muttered, "That shameless witch Elena. I knew she was trouble, always going after guys!"
The more she thought about it, the angrier she got, her chest heaving with rage!
After all, she and Elena were college classmates and roommates, and Elena had stolen her first love, Henry, back in the day. Now she was after Ryder!
No way was she letting that happen!
Sarah turned and glared at Ryder, "Listen, if you mess around with Elena, I swear I'll kick you where it hurts!"
Ryder felt a chill run down his spine and shivered!
He nodded awkwardly.
Honestly, Elena wouldn't catch Ryder's eye even if she was the last woman on Earth!
Then Ryder remembered something and got serious, "There's something you need to know. I think there's a mole in your company, using your financial transfers to frame you for hiring a hitman to take out Kenneth! I didn't tell you before 'cause I didn't want to drag you into this, but you should know so you can watch your back. If something happened to you, I'd never forgive myself!"
Sarah felt a warmth in her heart. Ryder, usually so blunt, rarely said such sweet things!
She was really touched!
She snuggled into Ryder's arms without thinking!
She whispered softly, "I get it!"
Feeling Sarah's warm body and unique scent, Ryder couldn't help but ask, "Babe, should we..."
Sarah glanced up at Ryder, noticing his cheeks were a bit flushed, and his breathing had picked up!
He was burning up!
She seemed to catch on!
Her voice got all nervous and shaky. "What do you wanna do?"
Ryder gently took Sarah's hand and said with a smirk, "What do you think? You owe me a bunch of rewards!"
"I..." Sarah swallowed hard, her heart pounding like crazy!
Ryder was already leaning in closer.
His warm breath was practically on her face!
Sarah's mind went blank, so she just closed her eyes, giving him the green light to do whatever he wanted!
Seeing this, Ryder was stoked!
He thought, 'I hit the jackpot at the casino tonight, and now I'm about to score a home run I've been waiting on for three years! So lucky!'
Their lips met!
It felt like an electric shock between them!
Ryder's heart was racing, his body running on pure instinct, ready for more!
At that moment, He seemed to heard some loud sound.
'Huh? Is my heartbeat really that loud?'
In his heated state, a confused thought crossed Ryder's mind!
'But who cares! As long as we keep going, nothing can stop me!'
The loud sound came again, followed by a familiar voice. "Ryder, you awake?"
It was Ryan's voice!
He was knocking on the bedroom door!
This made Ryder and Sarah, who were about to get all hot and heavy, freeze!
They looked at each other in shock!
Ryder signaled for Sarah to stay quiet, hoping Ryan would leave if he got no answer!
They needed to get back to business!
To his surprise, the knocking came again!
Ryan's annoying voice rang out again. "Ryder, I know you're not asleep! I got something urgent!"
Ryder's eye twitched hard!
He cursed Ryan in his head for ruining the moment. If he had known, he wouldn't have let him crash here tonight!
He had no choice but to move away from Sarah and get off the bed.
He pulled up his pants, made sure his pajamas covered his thighs, and checked that nothing looked off!
He walked to the door and opened it!
With a stern face, he asked, "What is it?"
Ryan grinned. "Nothing much, just reminding you about what we talked about in the car, transferring a few thousand bucks to me. You haven't done it yet, and I thought you forgot, so I came up to remind you."
Ryder felt his gums ache!
'Damn it, all this noise, and your urgent matter is this?'
But time was tight, and he didn't want to waste any more of it!
He quickly took out his phone and transferred $5,000 to Ryan!
Ryan got the money and smiled like a kid in a candy store, patting Ryder on the shoulder and whispering, "Good! Keep it up, I won't bug you anymore!"
With that, he went downstairs!
Ryder was fuming and thought, 'Knowing you disturbed me and still shamelessly asking for money. So deliberate!'
But there was something more important to do, so he put aside his complaints.
He quickly locked the door and turned to Sarah excitedly. "Babe, let's get back to redeeming that reward!"
Saying this, he was about to pounce, but Sarah, covering half her face with the blanket, seriously said, "The reward's been redeemed, go to sleep!"
Ryder exclaimed, "No way!"
What a letdown!
