Chapter 21 The Johnson Family Monthly Meeting

"He has been dismissed!" Sophia explained, "After last night's incident, I went back and investigated him overnight and found that he had been involved in multiple cases of bribery, suppressing subordinates, and habitual malicious lateness and early leave in the past few years. He has seriously violated the rules and was promptly dismissed!"
"At the same time, following Mr. Clark's reminder, it was indeed confirmed that the Finance Manager has a close relationship with Tom. Over the years, they embezzled tens of millions of project funds through their authority! They have been relieved of their positions and the filing of a lawsuit is underway!"
After listening to the report, Ryder nodded in satisfaction.
Sophia is indeed decisive and meticulous in her actions! A strong woman, through and through!
Before taking office, Scott had reminded Ryder that Sophia is still unmarried. It made sense, men have a hard time handling women like her!
Not to digress, Ryder participated in the inaugural meeting as the new CEO led by Sophia. During the meeting, many high-level executives expressed strong convictions to Ryder, constantly flattering him!
In response, Ryder just smiled faintly. What he cared about more was familiarizing himself with the company's various business processes as soon as possible and making the company perform better. As for those flashy surface actions, he ignored them completely!
The meeting lasted for the whole morning, and Ryder gained a lot from it. When it was time for lunch, an urgent phone call came in. It was Sarah. "Ryder! Where are you? Didn't I tell you about the monthly meeting today? You better hurry over!"
With so many meetings, he had actually forgotten about this! Ryder greeted Sophia and said there was something to attend to, leaving in a hurry!
He went downstairs and requested an electric scooter from the security team leader, heading straight to the Johnson family's old residence.
The Johnson family's old residence was located in the eastern district of Houston. Although it was called an old residence, it was actually a small villa. In the early days, old man Anthony started from scratch in the building materials business and gradually grew his fortune, opening more than ten branch companies in Houston. The total assets had already exceeded a hundred million.
In Houston, they were not considered a wealthy family. However, five years ago, Mr. Johnson suddenly went missing, and there was no news since then.
The family was then managed by Grandpa Johnson. Grandpa Johnson had average business ability and entrusted most of the family business to his children!
They had three sons and one daughter, with the daughter living abroad. The eldest son was Ryder's father-in-law, Ernest. Due to his timid personality, he was not well-regarded. He only managed one of the more than ten branch companies, which was also the smallest in terms of profitability.
And as for the remaining branch companies, they were primarily divided among second son, Matthew and third son, Lawrence.
Grandpa Johnson was traditional in his thinking and liked formalism. He would hold a family dinner every month, and both direct descendants and collateral descendants were required to attend.
On the surface, it promoted family relationships, but in reality, it was a family business report meeting. That's why it was called the monthly meeting!
At this time, outside the Johnson family villa.
Ernest and his family had already arrived, but they didn't want to go inside.
The reason was simple: The branch company he managed had the worst performance, and he always received criticism from Grandpa Johnson during the monthly meetings. Along with Ryder, as the son-in-law, he often became the target of attacks and sarcasm. Thus making the whole family reluctant to attend the monthly meeting. They wanted to delay going in for as long as possible.
After a while, Ryder arrived on a broken electric scooter. "Sorry, I had to deal with something on short notice, making me late!"
Karen scolded him irritably, "You idle good-for-nothing, you dare say you were dealing with something? I haven't even settled the accounts you messed up at home yesterday! After the monthly meeting, you should hurry up and get a divorce from Sarah."
Facing his materialistic mother-in-law, Ryder didn't want to bother with her so he pretended not to hear and walked over to Sarah.
Today, Sarah was wearing a tight-fitting short skirt, perfectly showcasing her curvaceous figure. She looked beautiful.
Sarah frowned and lowered her voice, "Didn't I give you two thousand dollars to buy a decent suit? Are you intentionally embarrassing me by wearing this casual outfit?"
"I feel more comfortable in casual clothes," Ryder shrugged. In fact, he had already forgotten about buying clothes!
"You dare to talk back to me?" Sarah suddenly became angry.
She could already imagine that if Ryder went in wearing this outfit, he would surely be ridiculed, and she would be dragged into it as well!
As expected, a Mercedes-Benz pulled up beside them, and a person got out. It was eldest grandson of the Johnson family, Matthew's only son, Andy Johnson.
"Mr. Clark, the freeloader of the Johnson family, is here again? This casual outfit must have been bought from a second-hand shop, right?" Andy didn't hold back and mocked openly.
After saying that, he also said to Sarah, "Sis, I'm not saying this to criticize you, but bringing such a useless person into the Johnson family is really embarrassing for our ancestors. What's the point of living with this kind of person? I happen to know a few successful businessmen., if you decide to divorce him, I can introduce you to them."
Sarah replied irritably, "Whether I divorce or not is none of your business!"
Karen, on the other hand, asked with interest, "Andy, how old the successful businessmen you know?"
Andy had a mischievous smile on his face. "In their forties, divorced, but wealthy!"
Karen and Sarah's faces were unpleasant; it was clearly a mockery of them.
Just then, a crashing sound rang out.
Ryder turned his head and saw that his electric bike, which he had just ridden back on, had been knocked over by a Hummer!
Two people got out of the Hummer, a man and a woman.
Ryder recognized the woman; it was Abigail, Lawrence's daughter and Sarah's cousin, who was three years younger than her. Abigail was heavily made up, wearing a low-cut and flamboyant dress. She proudly said to everyone, "Let me introduce my boyfriend, Allan Hall!"
These words drew envious glances from the people who had just arrived.
"Allan? Isn't he the eldest son of the Hall family here in Houston?"
"I heard the Hall family has assets worth billions. Abigail is lucky to have someone better than the poor guy Sarah found!"
Abigail reveled in the phrase and looked provocatively at Sarah. Sarah tightly bit her lip and remained silent.
Ryder stepped forward to Abigail and said, "You crashed into my bike!"
"What bike?" Abigail was momentarily stunned, then glanced at the fallen bike on the ground and chuckled, "Are you out of your mind, you poor guy? That piece of junk of yours is called a bike?"
"What else would it be?" Ryder countered!
Abigail pointed at the Hummer and boasted, "Do you know how much this car costs? Over a million! This is what a real car is. My boyfriend just bought it! An electric bike is just a lousy means of transportation for the garbage at the bottom. We got our Hummer dirty just by crashing into it!" She turned and spat on the electric bike.
Andy chimed in to mock, "Abigail! Don't you know our waste of space, he is too poor to even afford a driver's license? How would he know what a car is? In his eyes, anything with wheels is a good car! Give him junk, and he'll show off for days!"
Everyone burst into laughter.
"You useless idiot, stop embarrassing yourself here and follow us inside!" Karen kicked Ryder's shin and snorted in anger!
