Chapter 320 Ryan!

At 8 PM, in front of Houston's BBQ, Ryder and Rex were enjoying some grilled beef.

To others, it might seem odd that a wealthy guy like Ryder would eat here, but for him, it was no big deal. Eating was just about filling the stomach, and fancy foods often lacked substance.

They had planned to eat at home, but Sarah had a company dinner and would be home late, so they came here for convenience.

As they were happily eating, they heard a waiter at the door yelling, "You again? How many times do I have to tell you? We're not a charity. Leave now!"

"Come on. Think of it as a loan. I'll pay you back when I can," the man pleaded.

"Get out! Don't disrupt our business," the waiter snapped.

Ryder turned and saw an older man in a tattered black hat arguing with the waiter. Nearby customers started gossiping, "He's here again. Why doesn't he just get a job?"

"This is the third time I've seen him here. The owner let him off the hook before, but now he's pushing it."

"At his age, doesn't he feel ashamed?"

The waiter added, "You heard them. We're a small restaurant; we can't afford your disruptions. Get food elsewhere."

The man sighed and was about to leave when Ryder suddenly stood up and called out, "The cow won't give birth."

Everyone in the restaurant was stunned, not understanding what Ryder was up to. But the old man turned around, took off his hat, and grinned. "Impressive!"

He quickly walked over to Ryder, patted him on the shoulder, and said with a smile, "Ryder, it's you!"

Ryder looked him over. The man wore faded clothes, blue pants, green cloth shoes, and had a lean, slightly hunched figure. He looked like an old village man, but Ryder recognized him by his round eyes.

"Uncle Ryan, long time no see!" Ryder said with a smile.

Rex, puzzled, asked, "Ryder, you know him?"

Ryder nodded nostalgically. "He's from my village! We know each other well."

Back when Ryder was kicked out of the capital and lived in the village, besides Dragon, who taught him to hunt, there was another elder he remembered: Ryan Gonzalez. The village kids all called him Uncle Ryan.

Ryan was memorable because he was a peculiar man. A bachelor living a carefree, scruffy life, always idle. But strangely, he had been with nearly a hundred women in the surrounding countryside, from the grocery owner to the widow selling fertilizer, and even the teacher from the neighboring village!

There wasn't a woman Ryan couldn't charm! His romantic escapades could fill days of storytelling.

When Ryder was younger, he didn't care about Ryan's love issues. What intrigued him was Ryan's gambling addiction. No matter the game, Ryan was always there, even joining in on the kids' games. Working was out of the question for him.

The crazy part? Ryan never lost a single bet. People suspected him of cheating but never found proof. Despite his luck, he never saved a penny, spending all his winnings on women. He enjoyed their company but never married, saying it was too much trouble.

When Ryder graduated and worked on a construction site, he felt sorry for Ryan, who often went hungry. So, he got him a job there. But Ryan only stayed three days, winning a few thousand dollars by playing cards with coworkers. That night, he went out to enjoy himself. Later, he said city women were boring compared to village women and went back to the village.

Who would've thought they'd run into each other today?

Ryan sat down next to Ryder, grabbed a skewer of grilled beef, and took a big bite, smiling. "It is great! Why are you just standing there? Eat! We're all family!"

Ryder, used to Ryan's carefree personality, ordered more food and asked, "Uncle Ryan, weren't you staying in the village? What brought you to Houston?"

Ryan waved his hand. "Don't bring up sad memories. I figured I'd try my luck in the city!"

He looked Ryder up and down, grinning. "Ryder, you've really made it big now!"

Ryder smiled wryly. Another thing about Ryan was his love for crude sayings. "The cow won't give birth" was something Ryder had learned from him. Only Ryan could respond so quickly!

Ryan poured beers for Ryder and Rex. "Come on, let's have a drink. BBQ and beer, a great match!"

Rex pushed the beer aside, embarrassed. "I don't drink. I have to drive Ryder later."

Ryder said, "Rex really can't drink. I'll drink with you!"

They had a few beers. Ryan got more excited, took off his shoes, put one foot up on the chair, and lit a cigarette. He looked very contented. "Ryder, by the way, where's your sister? She's a good girl!"

Ryder didn't hide much from Ryan. He told him about Ava's car accident and her current treatment abroad.

Hearing this, Ryan was slightly astonished, and he angrily cursed, "Damn, even a good kid like Ava got hurt. Tell me what that Sam looks like. I'll catch him within three days and give him a good beating!"
