Chapter 25 Divorce Within Three Days!
The entire dining room fell silent as the sound of the slap echoed of the walls. Everyone wore expressions of dismay on their faces.
Ryder actually went ahead and slapped Abigail! Could a useless person like him really dare to do that? Has he gone mad? Abigail covered her swollen cheek, stunned for several seconds before finally reacting, "You...how dare you hit me? I will kill you!"
She then tried to claw at Ryder, but he preemptively struck again with another slap! This time, the force was stronger, causing Abigail to stagger back two steps. the false eyelashes on her left eye fell off woth the second strike.
Both sides of her facestarted to swell up significantly.
"Three slaps, one more to go!" muttered Ryder, narrowing his eyes as he approached Abigail.
Abigail, who had already suffered two slaps in a row, instinctively leaned back and said, "You...you worthless piece of garbage, stay away from me!"
Ignoring her, Ryder moved forward. Since joining the Johnson family as a son-in-law three years ago, he had endured countless humiliations from Abigail.
In the past, he had no power to fight back and could only endure silently. But now that Ryder had gained strength, this woman still remained arrogant and domineering, even targeting Sarah multiple times. So he didn't mind letting her experience the harsh reality of society's retribution!
Just as he was about to deliver the third slap to Abigail, Lawrence rushed forward, angrily shouting, "Ryder! What do you think you're doing to my daughter?"
Ryder remained indifferent and said, "I'm just helping her fulfill the bet."
Lawrence's face turned purple with anger as he said, "I see that you've gone too far. You dared to hit my daughter. I'll kill you!"
He tried to attack Ryder, but being older, he was no match for him. He was forcefully pushed back and stumbled to the ground. "It's over! It's over!"
"Ryder, you ungrateful traitor!" Matthew's wife exclaimed, slapping her thigh upon seeing her daughter and husband being beaten.
After this outburst, everyone started condemning Ryder. They spewed all sorts of offensive words!
Even Grandpa Johnson couldn't sit still anymore and scolded Ryder as he stood up, saying, "Ryder! Stop it! If you keep causing trouble, I'll kick you out of the Johnson family!"
Ryder turned his head, locking eyes with Grandpa Johnson, and simply replied, "As you wish!"
Grandpa Johnson was furious, he always had the final say in this family. Who would dare to disrespect him?
Especially the former Ryder, who wouldn't even dare to breathe loudly in his presence. Now he dared to talk back to him. This was Unforgivable!
He lifted his cane and slammed it on the table, shouting, "Get out! Get out of the mansion!"
Ryder didn't seem to care and said, "I really don't want to stay here!" With that, he turned around and walked towards the dining room exit.
However, when he reached the doorway, he suddenly turned his head and looked at Abigail, snorting coldly. "Remember our bet, and remember that you owe me a slap and an apology to Sarah!"
Leaving these words behind, he didn't even glance back as he walked away.
"That scoundrel! Ungrateful monster!" Grandpa Johnson was so infuriated that he couldn't help but grasp his chest.
The rest of the Johnson family members also cursed and raged, boiling with anger.
Only the Ernest family of three, for some unknown reason, felt a strange sense of relief at this moment. In the past, they were always bullied during the family gatherings, enduring countless humiliations. Today, they felt a balance had been restored.
Especially Sarah, who almost jumped up in excitement when she saw Ryder slap Abigail just now.
It turned out that her cowardly husband still had some use! After this turmoil, the Johnson family members had lost their appetite and couldn't bring themselves to eat.
Grandpa Johnson's face turned as dark as water as she said to Sarah, "You have three days to get a divorce from that waste of space, Ryder!"
"Grandpa! I... I don't want to divorce Ryder!" Sarah exclaimed.
Upon hearing this, Grandpa Johnson's face changed, and he sternly said, "This marriage must end. The Johnson family cannot tolerate someone with such unethical behavior!"
Abigail added fuel to the fire, covering her swollen mouth and maliciously saying, "I think Sarah can't bear to part with the diamond necklace Ryder gave her! It's all about money!"
Sarah was furious. Her reluctance to divorce Ryder was definitely not because of the five-million-dollar necklace.
It was because after three years of marriage, she had gradually grown fond of Ryder's presence. It wasn't a deep love, but at least it brought her a sense of security.
Sarah had intended to continue fighting for her marriage, but she was interrupted by Grandpa Johnson interrupted, "Do as I say. If you don't get divorced within three days, the your side of the family will be cut off, and the responsible subsidiaries will be handed over!"
Karen was frightened by these words and quickly said, "Divorce, divorce, divorce! I will make Sarah divorce as soon as I go back. Dad, calm down!"
Sarah remained silent, feeling wronged.
Grandpa Johnson stopped pressing and said earnestly to everyone, "Now that I am old and no longer have the energy to manage the family business, I have been considering selecting a successor from the younger generation to lead the Johnson family towards greater glory!"
Upon hearing these words, the younger generation of the Johnson family perked up their ears.
Especially Andy and Abigail, as the two highest-ranked individuals among the younger generation of the Johnson family, had been anticipating this day!
"For the sake of fairness, I will set a performance target!"
Andy looked expectant and asked, "What target?"
Grandpa Johnson answered, "You don't know yet, but Maple Real Estate has recently appointed a new president, and they will soon hold a bidding process. We, the Johnson family, should find a way to secure this bid!"
Upon hearing this, discussions broke out among the people present.
The main reason why the Johnson family's business hasn't prospered in recent years is because they have been involved in small projects that restrict their own development. However, Maple Real Estate is different. As the largest real estate company in Houston, their demand for building materials is enormous.
If the Johnson family can secure this bid, they will undoubtedly thrive!
Grandpa Johnson looked at everyone and said, "That's why I'm asking each of you to write a bidding proposal for your respective subsidiaries. After three days, the one who wins the bidding will be the next head of the family business! But before that, we need to secure a spot in the bidding process, and I'll leave that to Andy. Any questions?"
"No!" Andy eagerly replied, being given the chance to secure a spot in the bidding process meant he would have an advantage in building a relationship with Maple Real Estate.
In the end, he will have an edge in the bidding!
On the surface, it seems like a fair participation for all the younger generation, but in reality, it is favoring Andy right from the start!
"Good, let's adjourn the meeting!" Grandpa Johnson left.
Andy stood up, walked over to Sarah, and smirked triumphantly, "Sarah, I know you are capable, but so what? Grandpa just likes me better! Wait until I become the head of the Johnson family..."
"The successor to the family, it's you, the first one to be transferred, sent to do sales, accompanying those big bosses in drinking, eating, and warming the bed, haha!" After saying that, he left with an unconcerned stride.
"Damn guy, talking to his own sister like that?" Karen gritted her teeth. Ernest held his forehead and sighed. Tears of grievance streamed down Sarah's face.
With such unfairness within the family, who could she rely on...
